Zechariah 7-8

Zechariah 7

God reveals the way to the Mosaic Covenant promise of physical prosperity; a type of spiritual prosperity for those Called Out to the spiritual New Covenant: Keep the commandments and be zealous to build the house [especially the Spiritual Temple] of God and to live by every Word of God!

Zechariah 7:1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chisleu;

7:2 When they had sent unto the house of God Sherezer and Regemmelech, and their men, to pray before the LORD,   7:3 And to speak unto the priests which were in the house of the LORD of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years?

Then Messiah the Christ told the people that their fasting was in vain because they did not rise up to: go and sin no more.

How like the vain fasting of today’s brethren who fast for what they want and then rise up to call God’s Sabbath holy while proceeding to pollute God’s Sabbath and High Days, and returning to idolize men and many other sins!

7:4 Then came the word of the LORD of hosts unto me, saying,

7:5 Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh month, even those seventy years, did ye at all fast [in sincere repentance to God] unto me, even to me?

7:6 And when ye did eat, and when ye did drink [at the Festivals], did not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves?

Today we use God’s Festivals to satisfy personal pleasures instead of being zealous to consume (internalize) sound doctrine and to learn of God.  Even the sermons are all about us and how great we are and how great a reward we will have.

7:7 Should ye not hear the words which the LORD hath cried by the former prophets [Should we not teach the sound doctrines of the whole Word of God, to sincerely repent and follow the Eternal to keep and live by his every Word?], when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, when men inhabited the south and the plain?

Sincere repentance from all sin and living by every Word of God is the way to prosperity, peace and eternal life!

7:8 And the word of the LORD came unto Zechariah, saying,  7:9 Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:  7:10 And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.

Our unrepentant sins will bring strong correction from Jesus Christ upon us

Brethren, the wrath of Christ came down upon them in times past for their sins against the Word of God; and the New Covenant Ekklesia are supposed to have the Spirit of God and are supposed to know better!

How much greater will his wrath be upon us for committing the very same sins?

7:11 But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they should not hear.

7:12 Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which the LORD of hosts hath sent in his spirit by the former prophets: therefore came a great wrath from the LORD of hosts.

The soon coming tribulation is the climax of God’s correction upon his wayward people: BOTH physical AND spiritual Israel/Judah and after them, all the nations.

Physical Israel was and will again be corrected and we of today’s Spiritual Ekklesia who are not zealous to learn, to keep and to teach the whole Word of God, will also be corrected and our organizational idols will be destroyed.

7:13 Therefore it is come to pass, that as he cried, and they would not hear [the Word of God to learn, keep and teach it]; so they cried, and I would not hear, saith the LORD of hosts:

7:14 But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations whom they knew not. Thus the land was desolate after them, that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.

God is not a respecter of persons, and today he will treat those lukewarm and lax for his Word just as he did in the days of old: With a great correction!

Yet, he is a merciful God who deeply loves his people, and he will quickly forgive us when we have sincerely repented and learned the lessons that God wants to teach us by afflicting us.

Our espoused Husband is jealous because of all our adulteries with our idols of men and false traditions; and he will correct his wayward people.  Yet when they sincerely repent and turn to him; he will come to gather up his bride tenderly into his arms and taking her to the Wedding Feast in heaven (Rev 15, Rev 7:9 and Rev 19), and will then return with them to bring peace to the whole earth.

Zechariah 8

The coming of Christ, and the millennial Kingdom

Zion and Jerusalem are a type of the spiritual bride, being often unfaithful; but in the end becoming as full of godliness as the sea is full of water.

Revelation 21:2   And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

21:3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

21:4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

Zechariah 8:1 Again the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying,

When our affliction has resulted in our sincere repentance, then the Eternal will rise up to deliver us.

8:2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury.

Jesus [Hebrew: Yeshua] will come to rule the earth.

8:3 Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the [Temple Mount; and the government of God] mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain.

During the tribulation we may despair but we can trust in the promise of God. Jerusalem [representing both physical and spiritual Israel] will yet be delivered and built up in godliness!

8:4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.  8:5 And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof.

There is nothing too hard for our Master to accomplish!  What is amazing and unbelievable to man is obvious and true to Almighty God!  He will accomplish his purpose!

8:6 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.

When we are in correction and we repent and lament for our sins our deliverance might seem far off  and impossible to us; yet there is nothing too hard for God the Father and Jesus Christ our Lord Husband, to accomplish!

When Christ comes Judah and Israel will return to their land, which is a type of Spiritual Israel returning to their God and entering the Promised Land of eternal life!

8:7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;  8:8 And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.

The people who returned from ancient Babylon were encouraged to build the physical temple; and this was only a type of the building of the Ezekiel Temple; and both are a type of the building of a Spiritual Temple of godliness in humanity!

When Christ comes the nations will seek out the Eternal and will contribute to building the Ezekiel Temple.  These physical temples are types of the collective bride, the Spiritual Temple in whom the Spirit of God dwells!

Today, the brethren MUST be about the business of building our personal dwelling place for God’s Spirit; building ourselves into a Temple of the Spirit of the Living Eternal God!

We MUST sincerely repent and turn to our espoused Husband, Jesus Christ, in enthusiastic zeal for him and to live by every Word of God!

We MUST love God the Father and the Son Jesus Christ like No Other;  loving them enough to obey them and to do everything we can to please them!

And if we love the Son we will love the Father also.

Let us therefore Be Strong to turn to our Mighty Deliverer to Learn, to Keep, to Teach and to live by every Word of God!  Let us be STRONG in the Eternal to purge out all leaven of sin and to internalize the whole Word of God, to build up ourselves with God’s power, into a fitting dwelling place for the Holy Spirit of our Mighty God!

8:9 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built.

Today we have departed from the Word of God, therefore there has been NO spiritual growth these many years.  God will now correct us in the furnace of affliction if we do not quickly repent.

These ancients were impoverished physically because they neglected the building of God’s physical temple. Today we are spiritually impoverished because we neglect building the Spiritual Temple of the Holy Spirit, rejecting truth to cleave to our false traditions of men.

8:10 For before these days there was no hire [money for wages] for man, nor any hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of the affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour.

Our Lord will bless us if we turn to him, and if we dedicate ourselves to live by every Word of God we shall truly become his Spiritual Temple, God dwelling in us; but if we do not destroy all sin from ourselves, God will surely correct us.

1 Corinthians 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.

In that day when Christ returns with his resurrected chosen, he will bring a blessing for ll those who sincerely repent on the earth (Joel 2:28-29).

Zechariah 8:11 But now I will not be unto the residue of this people as in the former days, saith the LORD of hosts. 8:12 For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things.

The seed is a type of the Word of God which will be prosperous and bring much fruit.  The true vine, Jesus Christ, will have many branches bringing forth much fruit (John 15).   The dew of heaven is a type of the pouring out of the Holy Spirit of God upon the sincerely repentant.

8:13 And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong.

Just as physical and spiritual Israel were a curse upon the earth when they lived contrary to the Word of God; when they turn to God in sincere repentance they shall become a real blessing on the earth.

When they become zealous to Learn, to Keep and to Teach the whole Word of God; they shall become a true Shining Light of example to the earth!

8:14 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I repented not:  8:15 So again have I thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not.

After our correction and sincere repentance, Jesus Christ will come to his people with a blessing! This is speaking of spiritual Israel/Judah as well as the physical nations.

8:16 These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:  8:17 And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.

Let spiritual and physical Israel/Judah turn away from the false traditions and errors of the past and embrace and live by every Word of God!

8:18 And the word of the LORD of hosts came unto me, saying,  8:19 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.

Yeshua Messiah  [Jesus Christ] promises to turn our mourning into rejoicing!

The ancient fasts of the captivities and the destruction of the physical temples and our fasts of sincere repentance will be turned into joy when Almighty God has delivered us.

Then all the earth will seek the Eternal with a whole heart!

8:20 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities:  8:21 And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also. 8:22 Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD. [YHVH]

All nations and all languages shall turn to the Eternal in wholehearted sincerity!  Oh, what a glorious time!

8:23 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew [spiritually faithful to God], saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.

God’s Spirit will be poured out on all flesh (Joel 2:28)
