Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas currently in Jordan, is set to present his own version of a peace plan, said to be a Palestinian state negotiated on the basis of the pre-1967 lines with land swaps which is honestly negotiated not a fait accompli forced down their throats. The Abbas plan will be consistent with existing UNSC Resolutions while the Trump plan is contrary to those UNSC Resolutions and therefore breaks international law.
The draft Resolution will likely be voted on on Tuesday, in the presence of Abbas, but has virtually zero chance of being adopted due to an expected US veto.
If vetoed at the Security Council, the issue will be taken to the UN General Assembly, said Saleh Rafat, a member of the executive committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization. Resolutions at the General Assembly cannot be vetoed and therefore the proposal which is consistent with previous UNSC Resolutions is guaranteed to be adopted with an overwhelming majority.
The Arab League, has already unanimously rejected the Trump peace plan.
The Palestinian leader is expected to be joined at the UN this week by former Israeli prime minister Ehud Olmert and the two are said to be planning a joint press conference. According to a Channel 12 report this past week, Olmert was expected “to express his opposition” to the US administration’s plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and reiterate that he and Abbas nearly concluded a peace deal before Olmert left office in 2009.
It would appear that the Trump plan is dead, but in dying it may have revived genuine negotiations as the only real way to a peace deal, by revealing what could happen if a negotiated deal is not achieved.
A major regional war is about 90% certain this spring either before or possibly after the March 2 Israeli elections.
After the looming Mideast regional war and a new Israeli government not held hostage by extremists is established, a genuine peace will be achieved only to be sabotaged by the Israeli extremists almost as soon as it is agreed (1 Thess 5:3). When a miracle worker is set up in the Vatican he will go to the Temple Mount, at which time Jewish extremists will sabotage the peace and the tribulation will begin with the occupation of Jerusalem (Mat 24:15).
Forty-two months later Messiah the Christ will come with God’s plan, which will finally bring peace to the Middle East and to the whole earth.
