Because of the many people who have fallen away from sound doctrine during the various splits and crisis in the Ekklesia, today’s post will progressively cover modern Judaism, the Messianic Movement, and the Sacred Names Movement.
This post is long and is very heavy on proofs. I suggest that you give serious thought to each part to get the most out of this post.
Many are well aware of the paganized apostate nature of modern mainstream “Christianity”, but few understand that modern Rabbinic Judaism has been Hellenized away from Moses and is just as apostate and just as paganized.
People tend to have the opinion that modern Judaism is the religion of Moses [which it is not] and that it is the closest thing to true religion only lacking a Messiah.
From that error, they then go on to think of the Scared Names Movement or even modern Messianic Judaism, as being a blend of the religion of Moses and Christ and therefore very close to the true religion.
That is an UTTERLY FALSE position; and many have fallen at this great deception.
Only One Way to God
There is only ONE way to God the Father; and that is through repentance, the reconciling sacrifice of Christ; and a genuine turn towards diligently keeping all the Father’s commandments: To go and sin no more.
No magic word or sacred name, no blending of apostate Judaism with apostate Christianity; will provide access to God.
The idea that correctly pronouncing the true name of a god or spirit gives one access to that god or spirit is the basis of witchcraft, including Jewish witchcraft, known as Kaballah which has taken over most sects of Judaism.
What WE need to do is REPENT and diligently keep all the commandments of God!
The following is a look into the absolute Hellenic paganism upon which modern Rabbinic Judaism is based. You will recognize Satan’s lie that we are or have an immortal spirit and that we need to elevate our innate godliness and achieve the level of a God for ourselves. You will also see much more.
This is the foundation of modern Rabbinic Judaism and many Jews are not aware of how far they are from Moses, just like many Catholics are totally unaware of how far they are from Christ; and the same could be said about many in the COG who are content to play “follow the elder” and do not question anything they are told.
Disobeying the command to prove all things by the scriptures, and just accepting whatever we are told is the first BIG step that ultimately leads to apostasy.
After the end of the Mosaic Covenant by the death of the Husband, Jesus Christ, and the destruction of Mosaic Judaism and Mosaic Pharisee-ism by the Romans in the first century, and with the called out of the New Covenant being spread abroad; the other branch of the Pharisees, being fully Hellenized and in opposition to the Mosaic Pharisees; based in Babylon and Alexandria were free from their Judean Mosaic competition.
They were then free to dominate Judaism with their Hellenized [Babylonianized] form of religion, yet they still had to contend with the large numbers of these new folks called Christians who preached Jesus [Hebrew: Yeshua] as Messiah and would not compromise with the teachings of the scriptures or of Christ.
Since the Hellenized Rabbinic policy had always been to exalt themselves above the scriptures by falsely claiming they had secret revelation from God that superseded Moses, and also compromised the religion of Moses by using Hellenic reasoning’s; they also perverted the scriptural understanding in those things that pertained to Messiah, in an attempt to discredit Yeshua as Messiah.
Deuteronomy 5:30 Go say to them, Get you into your tents again. 5:31 But as for thee, stand thou here by me, and I will speak unto thee all the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which thou shalt teach them, that they may do them in the land which I give them to possess it. 5:32 Ye shall observe to do therefore as the Lord your God hath commanded you: ye shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. 5:33 Ye shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God hath commanded you, that ye may live, and that it may be well with you, and that ye may prolong your days in the land which ye shall possess.
Exodus 24:3 And Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD, and all the judgments: and all the people answered with one voice, and said, All the words which the LORD hath said will we do.
They did not deny that a Messiah was to come, as that would have meant changing the actual scripture; they did twist understanding of the scriptures, to change Passover from the 14th to the 15th day of the first month. They also changed the Wave Offering Day and therefore Pentecost, and finally they changed the calendar [to help confuse the date of the real Passover even further], and to refute the claims by the apostles of their fulfillment in Christ.
Modern Rabbinic Judaism is controlled by the Babylonian Mysteries under the name of Kabbalah.
For those with eyes to see, this is indelibly stamped on modern Rabbinic Judaism by its very symbol, the six pointed star, which was always a symbol of Kabala witchcraft. The true Biblical symbol for Judah is the lion and NOT any mystical star.
The Star of David
In the Kabbalah doctrine, the two triangles represent the dichotomies inherent in man: good vs. evil, spiritual vs. physical, etc. The triangle pointing up symbolizes our good deeds, which go up to heaven and activate a flow of goodness back down to the world, symbolized by the triangle pointing down. The biblical symbol of Judah is the lion and the star is the symbol of Kabbalah.
“The Breath [air, this is evolution here] becomes a stone; the stone, a plant; the plant, an animal; the animal, a man; the man, a spirit; and the spirit, a god.” A known Kabbalah quote
The Kabbalah (also known as kabala, cabala) means in Hebrew “reception” in the sense of “received tradition” and indeed the term historically referred to all Judaism’s oral law [which never existed as being from God, and was merely the term used to disguise and claim that the Hellenized reasoning’s of men were somehow of God. However there was never any such thing as the oral law, which was an invention of the scholars to justify their departure from the written law.
This so called Oral Law is the same deceit that is practiced in Roman Catholicism and the church of God when they claim to have authority to reason and interpret the Word of God according to their own imaginations and false traditions.
They could then say “yes, the scripture says this, but the oral law explains it as something different than what it appears to say”; and so they deceived people and created modern Judaism. Just like the COG Groups say: “Yes, Ezra and Nehemiah say not to buy food or drink on Sabbath; but that was for somebody else not us. We are delivered to do these things and pollute the Sabbath.” They exalt their own ways above the Word of God, just as the modern Rabbins do.
These Hellenized esoteric reasoning’s, remained something that is past on from rabbi to student. This was because of the relative interpretive freedom taken by kabbalistic scholars, and the heresies they lead to, and so the teachings of the Kabbalah remained something that is restricted to a selected few. In our days, these esoteric teachings have been put to record called the Talmud. Modern Rabbinic Judaism is NOT the religion of Moses: to is Kabbalah, Hellenized reasoning’s; to make the Word of God through Moses of no effect.
The basic concepts in the Kabbalah
In the basis of the Kabbalistic thought lays in the mekubal’s (a Kabbalah mystic) will to mystically and consciously unite with God, narrowing the gap between him, and the material world he lives in, and the divine. The mekubal perceives the entire material reality and the phenomenons in it as God’s revelations in our world. He aspires to reveal the godly being in everything and every form and by doing so, to rise spiritually, return his soul to her godly roots and to be one with god [to become God by his own efforts]. The Kabbalah differentiates between God’s hidden aspects which no creature can comprehend and God’s revelations, usually referred to as the Ten Sephiroth (or “emanations”) which are the ways in which God delegates his actions and through which he created the world. According to Kabbalah the Sephiroth make up the structure known as the Tree of life.
The historical development of the Kabbalah
Jewish mysticism has existed since biblical days and is said to begin with the secret God told Adam in the Garden of Eden [the lie that Satan told that man can become God by his own efforts in doing what is right in his own eyes]. The Kabbalah Rabbins believe that the miracles recorded in the Bible were performed by Kabbalah magic.
In spite of this, researchers agree that the esoteric Jewish teachings only become a big part of Judaism in the late 12th century and early 13th century in the south of France and in northern Spain.
The Kabbalah rapidly spread to other regions in Spain, mostly due to the spread of literature and the migration of Kabbalah scholars. One of them was Rabbi Yitzhak Saggi Nehor (said to have written the Bahir book) who moved to Gerona, forming a group of scholars that played a major role in developing the theories of the Kabbalah and its literature. The esoteric teachings of the Kabbalah were soon widely accepted and kabbalistic elements started appearing in Halacha and biblical interpretation texts.
The book of Zohar
In 1280 appeared the first issues of the central book of the Kabbalah, the book of Zohar, believed to be written by Rabbi Simeon bar Yohai. The book of Zohar only gained its great effect after the trauma of the Alhambra Decree (deporting the Jews from Spain) having given an emphasis to the people’s need for redemption. The Zohar became even more known and sacred in the 16th century after having been printed. This effect climaxed in the kabbalistic teachings in the city of Safed, that many of its new mystical ideas were inspired by the interpretations in the Zohar. The Zohar became the primary source for the esoteric teachings, standing aside the Bible and the Talmud, though it raised many objections that continue to our days.
The Modern Messianic Movement
In the end of the 15th century, in the early days of renaissance, Catholic scholars began to take an interest in the teachings of the Kabbalah and some of the writings were translated to Latin. The scholars saw a resemblance between elements in the Kabbalah and modern professing “Christianity” [read Roman Catholic] beliefs and sought to find those beliefs in the Kabbalah.
This movement attempted in missionary activity to convince Jews to convert to “Christianity” [Catholicism] by proving its authenticity based on the Kabbalah and the Zohar.
The use of the Kabbalah and the Zohar in Christianity, and later the Shabtaut brought many Jews into the blend of Roman professing “Christianity” and modern Rabbinic Judaism what is now known as Messianic Judaism.
Messianic Judaism is a mix of modern professing “Christianity” and modern Rabbinic Judaism; and is not the religion of Moses and of Christ.
Messianism is not the religion of Moses or of Christ; it is a combination of Hellenic Rabbinic Judaism and the modern professing “Christianity” of Rome.
From Rabbinic Judaism they get the high days and Sabbath, which are then blended with the trinity etc of Catholicism.
The Rabbins modified the Passover date, the Wave Offering date and the Pentecost date; all in reaction to and for the purpose of rejecting and concealing the Messiah-ship of Yeshua [Jesus].
Most Messianics claim that Messiah held a “training” Passover on the night of the beginning of the 14th and died on the 14th afternoon, Therefore they claim that Christ actually died on the “true” Passover of the 15th. This is pure confusion, since the scriptures clearly state that Christ died and was buried on the 14th day of the first month, BEFORE sunset when the First High Day began on day 15. See our Passover studies.
Here is one of their explanations.
For the Messianic s to try and blend Rabbinism with Catholicism and then claim they are Moses with a Messiah is simply confusion.
The Sacred Names Movement
The SC movement is divided into various groups characterized by adherence to the use of and pronunciation of a claimed Hebrew name of God; most of whom teach that not using their version of the Sacred Name cuts one off from access to God, who will not hear those who do not use his correct and correctly pronounced name. The Sacred Names doctrine is rooted in Kabbalah.
The Bahir book (the Book of Brightness) appeared in the south of France in the year 1180 and is the first book of the Kabbalah.
It is attributed to the scholars of the Mishnah and it contains ideas and sermons from the Hekhalot and the Merkaba literature. The Bahir also uses statements from Sefer Yetzirah (The book of creation) explaining the process of the creation led by God. It also speaks of the use of the Sacred Names in magic.
At the same period, independently, the esoteric teachings of the Ashkenaz Hasidim rose. Though there are many differences between those teachings and those of the mekubalim, we can see many similarities both in the use of early Jewish mysticism as reference, the idea of keeping the teachings a secret and the formation of small study groups.
In the 1930′s Clarence Orville Dodd from the COG 7th Day established the modern COG Sacred Names Movement, being influenced by Kabbalah under the mistaken impression that Modern Rabbinic Judaism was the religion of Moses.
The apostle Paul commanded us not to give heed to Jewish fables [seeking the false religion of the Jews who are against Christ].
Titus 1:14 Not giving heed to Jewish fables, and commandments of men, that turn from the truth.
To combat this insidious appeal to personal ego [I have the sacred name and you do not]! God caused his word [and name] to be proclaimed to many nations in their own languages at Pentecost in 31 A.D.
For those who say that the New Testament had to have been written in Hebrew, and that the name of God must be correctly pronounced in Hebrew, see what God’s word has to say.
Acts 2:6 Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
2:7 And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
2:8 And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
2:9 Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, 2:10 Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, 2:11 Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
2:12 And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?
Indeed Jesus himself used Greek to refer to himself in Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.
There is no name pronunciation that guarantees access to God.
The ONLY way to the Father is through Repentance from breaking his commandments, and the application of the sacrifice of Christ with our reconciling to the Father, through the Mediation of Jesus Christ His High Priest.
Jesus Christ was prophesied to be born of a virgin of the tribe of Judah and of the family of David. Mathew begins with a male genealogy from Abraham to Christ; this appears to be a simple introduction to get the attention of the Jews, since Joseph was NOT the father of Jesus.
The child was called Yeshua by its parents, this being the short form of Joshua; meaning Deliverer, Salvation, or simply Saviour, in English. The name Yeshua, directly from the Hebrew is Joshua in English.
The proper name of the Messiah in English is either Joshua, from the Hebrew; or Jesus, from the koine Greek transliteration from the Hebrew. In Hebrew it is Yeshua and in koine Greek it is Yesous,
Since the gospels were written in koine Greek, the new Testament writers used the Greek form “Yesous,” which is the Greek transliteration of “Yeshua.” This was then translated from koine Greek into the English name “Jesus”.
For a technical study of the Hebrew linguistics; not twisted to support some strange doctrine; please see: The Messiah’s Hebrew Name: “Yeshua” Or “Yahshua”? by Dr. Daniel Botkin which is reproduced here.
Dr. Daniel Botkin explains the Hebrew linguistics of the names “Yeshua” and “Yahshua” and how “Yahshua” is a mistransliteration by Sacred Name advocates to fit an erroneous interpretation of John 5:43 and how “Yeshua” is far more accurate.
He also clearly establishes the fact that the English name “Jesus” has absolutely no pagan connection and is simply a derivation of “Yesous,” the Greek transliteration of “Yeshua.” Most important, Dr. Botkin addresses that slander and criticism surrounding the name controversy in entirely non-Scriptural and not glorifying to the Holy One of Israel.
The Messiah’s Hebrew name is usually transliterated as either Yeshua or Yahshua. Under normal circumstances I would not bother to write an article about something as trivial as the difference between the vowel sounds “e” and “ah.” There is a need to address the subject, though, because some people who use the Yahshua form say untrue things about those who use the Yeshua form.
The opponents of the Yeshua form claim that this pronunciation is the result of a Jewish conspiracy to hide the Savior’s true name. Those who call the Messiah Yeshua are accused of perpetuating a Jewish conspiracy and “denying His name” or “degrading Him” by their use of the Yeshua form. If you have never read or heard these outlandish accusations, you probably will eventually. From time to time I receive personal letters to this effect.
The proponents of the Yahshua form claim that the Messiah’s name was the same as Joshua’s, written [vwhy or [wvwhy (Strong’s #3091).
The only problem is that neither of these Hebrew spellings of Joshua’s name can possibly be pronounced “Yahshua.”
The third letter in Joshua’s name (reading from right to left) is the letter vav (w) and a vav cannot be silent. The letter vav must be pronounced as either a “v” or an “o” or an “u.” (In the case of Joshua, it takes an “o” sound, giving us “Ye-ho-SHU-a.” Strong’s confirms this pronunciation.) For a name to be pronounced “Yahshua,” it would have to be spelled [wv–hy, and no such name exists anywhere in the Hebrew Bible.
You don’t have to just take my word for it, though. Dr. Danny Ben-Gigi says of the Yahshua form that “there is no such name in Hebrew” and that “people invented it to fit their theology.” Dr. Ben-Gigi is an Israeli and the former head of Hebrew programs at Arizona State University. He is the author of the book First Steps in Hebrew Prayers, and he designed and produced the “Living Israeli Hebrew” language-learning course.
Dr. David Bivin, a Christian, says that the Yahshua form “is rooted in a misunderstanding.” Dr. Bivin is a renowned Hebrew scholar and teacher and author of Fluent Biblical Hebrew.
I do not know of a single individual that knows Hebrew well enough to actually read it and understand it and converse in it who uses the Yahshua form.
Please do not misunderstand. A person does not need to know Hebrew and Greek linguistics in order to be spiritual. However, if a person is going to take it upon himself to instruct others about subjects of a linguistic and Hebraic nature, he should know the Hebrew language and he should know some basics about linguistics.
This is especially true if he is going to use his Hebrew-based linguistic teachings to accuse his brethren of being part of a “Jewish conspiracy” to “deny the true name of the Messiah.”
To people who actually know Hebrew – people like Dr. Ben-Gigi, Dr. Bivin, and others – it is very obvious that those who insist on the Yahshua form know very little about the Hebrew language. The only Hebrew that most of these self-appointed scholars know is what they can learn from a Strong’s Concordance. Strong’s is a great study tool and a fine place to start, but it is not a means by which a person can learn the Hebrew language.
The English form Jesus is derived from the New Testament Greek name Ihsouß, pronounced “Yesous.” According to Strong’s, Yesous (Strong’s #2424) is “of Hebrew origin” and can be traced back to Joshua’s Hebrew name, Yehoshua (#3091, [wvwhy). But how do we get the Greek Yesous from the Hebrew Yehoshua?
Someone armed with nothing more than a Strong’s Concordance may have difficulty answering that question.
Someone who reads the Bible in Hebrew, though, knows that the name Joshua sometimes appears in its shortened form, Yeshua ([wvy) in Neh. 8:17 it is apparent even in English: “Jeshua the son of Nun.” (The letter J was pronounced like a Y in Old English.)
Strong does not tell the reader that the Greek Yesous is actually transliterated from this shortened Hebrew form, Yeshua, and not directly from the longer form Yehoshua. The process from “Yehoshua” to “Jesus” looks like this:
Hebrew Yehoshua [shortened to] the Hebrew Yeshua
Hebrew Yeshua to Greek Yesous
Greek Yesous to English Jesus
There is no “sh” sound in Greek, which accounts for the middle “s” sound in Yesous. The “s” at the end of the Greek name is a grammatical necessity, to make the word declinable.
In Neh. 8:17, Joshua’s name is 100% identical to the name which today’s Messianic Jews use for the Messiah, Yeshua ([wvy). Strong’s confirms this pronunciation, and tells us that there were ten Israelites in the Bible who bore this name (#3442).
Therefore the shortening of Yehoshua to Yeshua predates the Christian era by at least 500 years, and cannot be the result of a Jewish conspiracy to hide the Savior’s true name. To claim that the shortened form Yeshua is the result of a Jewish conspiracy is to ignore the facts of history and the facts of the Hebrew Scriptures. The form Yeshua existed for several hundred years before the Messiah was even born. Even in the pre-Christian Septuagint, we see the Greek form IHSOUS (Yesous) in the title of the Book of Joshua. (This is also proof that Yesous has no connection to the pagan god Zeus.)
So where did the transliteration Yahshua come from?
This form of the name can be traced back to the beginnings of the Sacred Name movement, a movement that grew out of the Church of God, 7th Day, in the late 1930s. I have in my files an article entitled, “A Brief History of the Name Movement in America” by L.D. Snow, a Sacred Name believer. According to this article, “John Briggs and Paul Penn were the FIRST to pronounce and use the name Yahshua” (emphasis Snow’s). This was in 1936 and in 1937, the article states. No information is given about how Briggs and Penn came up with this (mis)translation.
Later Sacred Name literature appeals to the Messiah’s statement in John 5:43 as “proof” of the Yahshua form: “I am come in My Father’s name,” He said. In the minds of Sacred Name believers, this means that “Yah,” a shortened form of Yahweh, must appear in the name of the Son. However, the Messiah did not say “My name contains My Father’s name” or “My Father’s name must appear inside My name” or any such statement. He said absolutely nothing here about His own name. The only “name” mentioned here was the Father’s name. He said, “I am come in My Father’s name,” which simply means that He was coming by His Father’s authority, on His Father’s behalf.
If we take Yeshua’s statement “I am come in My Father’s name” to mean that His own name must contain the Father’s name, then we ourselves cannot do anything “in the Father’s name” unless our own personal name happens to contain the syllable “Yah.”
The folly of this interpretation is also evident if the same line of reasoning is applied to the rest of Yeshua’s statement: “…if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.” If the logic of Sacred Name believers is applied to this half of the verse, it would be saying “a person’s name must contain his own name,” which is meaningless. If, on the other hand, “in his own name” means “by his own authority,” then the statement makes sense.
Why is the Yahshua form used by no one but Sacred Name believers and people who have been influenced by Sacred Name believers?
Probably because no such name exists in the Hebrew Bible and, to my knowledge, no such name exists in any extra-Biblical Hebrew literature. It appears that Dr. Ben-Gigi is correct when he says that people invented the name Yahshua to fit their theology.
I have read a lot of literature from writers who seek to expose the “errors” of those who refer to the Messiah as Yeshua. The only thing these writers actually expose is their lack of knowledge. I could give several examples of statements which are absolutely ridiculous. I do not have the space in this publication to give all the examples I have in my files, and I do not wish to embarrass sincere people for their honest but misguided efforts. There are some examples, though, that grossly misrepresent the facts, and some of these examples need to be exposed.
In one popular booklet published by a well-known Sacred Name organization, the anonymous author makes this statement: “Most reference works agree with Kittel’s Theological Dictionary of the NT statement on page 284, which states that the name Yahoshua was shortened after the exile to the short form Yahshua.”
This statement makes it sound like Kittel uses the forms Yahoshua and Yahshua. I went to the library and looked at this page in Kittel’s. The words Yahoshua and Yahshua do not appear even one time on this page. This can be verified by going to a library and looking up this page. (It’s in Volume III.) If your library does not have Kittel’s, I can send a photocopy of this page to any skeptics.
This same Sacred Name organization which misrepresents Kittel’s also misrepresented a Jewish author. In a magazine article written by this organization’s main leader, a lengthy segment is quoted from a book published by KTAV, a Jewish publishing house.
When copying this quotation for his magazine article, this Sacred Name author freely used Yahshua, making it appear that the Jewish author used that transliteration in his book. I got the book from the library, though, and discovered that “Yahshua” did not appear in the book.
I wrote to this Sacred Name leader asking for an explanation. I told him that unless he had some other explanation, I could conclude one of three things: either he deliberately misrepresented the facts, or he did it accidentally, or the book I got from the library was a different version from his, in which case I would owe him an apology. My letter was sent September 1, 1997, and I am still waiting for a reply. I will not embarrass this man by mentioning his name or the name of his ministry. It is not my intention to embarrass anyone.
I am not writing this article to persuade people to quit saying “Yahshua.” If people want to continue using a mistransliteration that was erroneously contrived by early Sacred Name pioneers who didn’t know Hebrew, it really doesn’t matter to me. I don’t that the substitution of an “ah” sound for an “e” sound matters much to the Lord, either. What does matter, though, is the spreading of false accusations against Messianic Jews and others who called the Messiah “Yeshua.”
Paul warned Timothy about “doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmising [suspicions]” (1 Tim. 6:4). Unfortunately, this is an accurate description of what goes on among many people in the Sacred Name movement. Personally, I would rather fellowship with non-contentious people who call the Messiah “Jesus” than with contentious people who insist that everyone call Him “Yahshua.”

“The Fallacy of Sacred Name Bibles,” Jerusalem Perspective Nov.-Dec. 1991, p. 12.
These teachers very heavily rely on Strong’s Concordance, yet when Strong proves them wrong, as he does with the pronunciation of Yehoshua, they insist that Strong’s rendering is erroneous! I have a Sacred Name publication which actually claims that Strong wrote down incorrect pronunciations because “his understanding of the Name was lacking.” Anyone who wants to disprove this ludicrous assertion can simply look at Joshua’s name in a Hebrew Bible and see that Strong used the very same vowel marks that are used in the Bible.
There is some debate over whether or not the Jews’ final shortening of Jesus’ name to Yeshu (wvy) was a deliberate attempt to avoid acknowledging Yeshua of Nazareth as Savior.
This article first appeared in a publication called The Eliyah Messenger in May-June 1966, and was reprinted in 1975 in World Today Analyzed, a publication of the Assembly of Yahvah in Tahlequah, OK.
What then of the third commandment?
In truth, God is the author of ALL LANGUAGES Genesis 11:6-9, NOT just Hebrew!
And ALL LANGUAGES have been corrupted, including Hebrew. There is nothing sacred or holy about any language.
God is Holy! His name is Holy, because it refers to Him!
A father does not reject his child, just because the child has trouble pronouncing it’s father’s name!
We are the children of God.
ALL HUMANITY are the created children of God; and we may ALL call upon Him in the language that God has given each of us. For it is written that the Holy Spirit of God inspired God’s people to preach the Word of God in EVERY language! Acts 2:1-12
Ancient Israel knew ancient Hebrew. They could fluently read it, write it, and speak it. They knew the correct pronunciation of all the words of Scripture—including what is now known as the Tetragrammaton (which merely means “four letters”). Yet, throughout Scripture we find that the Eternal has proclaimed that they have profaned His name.
Did they misspell, or mispronounce, His name? No! Did they use the wrong name? No!
How then did they profane His holy name?
What saith the Scriptures?
Leviticus 18:20 Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour’s wife, to defile thyself with her. 18:21 And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. 18:23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. 18:24 Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:
The context of Leviticus 18 is sexual sins–what has this to do with not using the ‘proper name’ of God, as some interpret the injunction against profaning his ‘shem’? The word rendered “profane” may be understood as “prostitute” (see Leviticus 21:9), as in: “Thou shalt not prostitute the name of thy “Elohiym” (God) [by taking My name then acting like a harlot]. Let us look further at the matter.
Leviticus 20:1 And the LORD (YHWH) spake unto Moses, saying, 20:2 Again, thou shalt say to the children of Israel, Whosoever he be of the children of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that giveth any of his seed unto Molech; he shall surely be put to death: the people of the land shall stone him with stones. 20:3 And I will set My face against that man, and will cut him off from among his people; because he hath given of his seed unto Molech, to defile My sanctuary, and to profane My holy name.
We see here that God’s holy name was profaned by a man giving his seed to Molech–not by misspelling or mispronouncing God’s “name;” nor by calling him a different name or title. It was the man’s actions, as a man of the covenant, which caused profanation of God’s holy name [reputation].
Leviticus 19:9 And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest. 19:10 And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the LORD your God. 19:11 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another. 19:12 And ye shall not swear by My name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. 19:13 Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning.
Again, why mention “neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God” in this context (don’t steal, don’t deal falsely, don’t lie–don’t swear falsely by name or profane name–don’t defraud, don’t rob, nor keep back wages) if this command against profanation truly is one concerning the use or disuse of certain phonetic sounds?
Leviticus 21:5 They shall not make baldness upon their head, neither shall they shave off the corner of their beard, nor make any cuttings in their flesh. 21:6 They shall be holy unto their God, and not profane the name of their God: for the offerings of the LORD made by fire, and the bread of their God, they do offer: therefore they shall be holy.
How would the priests avoid profaning God’s name? By saying it a certain way? No! By being holy unto their God. It is acts of unholiness, of sin; that profane His name. The Word of God is telling you this – not any man.
Leviticus 22:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 22:2 Speak unto Aaron and to his sons, that they separate themselves from the holy things of the children of Israel, and that they profane not My holy name in those things which they hallow unto Me: I am the LORD. 22:3 Say unto them, Whosoever he be of all your seed among your generations, that goeth unto the holy things, which the children of Israel hallow unto the LORD, having his uncleanness upon him, that soul shall be cut off from my presence: I am the LORD.
The Torah says here that the priests would profane God’s holy name if they would offer sacrifices while being in the state of uncleanness, or offer improper sacrifice, etc. Read the entire chapter to see the context–it even concludes with the same notion:
Leviticus 22:31 Therefore shall ye keep my commandments, and do them: I am the LORD. 22:32 Neither shall ye profane my holy name; but I will be hallowed among the children of Israel: I am the LORD which hallow you
Like the other Scriptures we have already examined, this has NOTHING to do with an alleged commandment to use only a certain pronunciation of phonetic sounds (i.e., a proper name).
Jeremiah 34:14 At the end of seven years let ye go every man his brother an Hebrew, which hath been sold unto thee; and when he hath served thee six years, thou shalt let him go free from thee: but your fathers hearkened not unto Me, neither inclined their ear. 34:15 And ye were now turned, and had done right in My sight, in proclaiming liberty every man to his neighbour; and ye had made a covenant before Me in the house which is called by My name: 34:16 But ye turned and polluted My name, and caused every man his servant, and every man his handmaid, whom ye had set at liberty at their pleasure, to return, and brought them into subjection, to be unto you for servants and for handmaids.
JHVH (or YHWH) here proclaims that His name was polluted by Israel. What was the evidence He presented them? Disuse of “Yahweh” (sic)? No. How about mispronunciation? No.
God said that they polluted His name by: Disobedience to the law!
Ezekiel 20:39 As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter also, if ye will not hearken unto Me: but pollute ye My holy name no more with your gifts, and with your idols.
God once again proclaims that His name was polluted by Israel.
Was it for using a title (i.e., “God/Elohim,” “Lord/Adonai,” etc.)?
Was it for not professing the ‘tetragrammaton”?
No, it was for their idolatry!
Ezekiel 43:7 And He said unto me, Son of man, the place of My throne, and the place of the soles of My feet, where I will dwell in the midst of the children of Israel for ever, and My holy name, shall the house of Israel no more defile, neither they, nor their kings, by their whoredom, nor by the carcases of their kings in their high places. 43:8 In their setting of their threshold by My thresholds, and their post by My posts, and the wall between Me and them, they have even defiled My holy name by their abominations that they have committed: wherefore I have consumed them in mine anger. 43:9 Now let them put away their whoredom, and the carcases of their kings, far from Me, and I will dwell in the midst of them for ever.
Hear His proclamation yet more! What evidence does He present this time?
Israel’s [and spiritual Israel’s] abominations and whoredoms: have defiled His name!
They have ruined/profaned/polluted God’s name by their deeds, not by their pronunciation of a name.
Please note, in all of scripture there has never been any mention that God expectats His people to use a specific pronunciation of sounds to refer to Him.
Amos 2:6 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away the punishment thereof; because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes; 2:7 That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father will go in unto the same maid, to profane My holy name:
Three, even four, transgressions that profane His name, yet not one of them listed here is the disuse of the “sacred name,” or the use of “titles” or other languages to refer to Him.
Malachi 1:6 A son honoureth his father, and a servant his master: if then I be a father, where is Mine honour? and if I be a master, where is My fear? saith the LORD of hosts unto you, O priests, that despise My name. And ye say, Wherein have we despised Thy name? 1:7 Ye offer polluted bread upon Mine altar; and ye say, Wherein have we polluted Thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD is contemptible. 1:8 And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, is it not evil? offer it now unto thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
Malachi 1:11 For from the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same My name shall be great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense shall be offered unto My name, and a pure offering: for My name shall be great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts. 1:12 But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD is polluted; and the fruit thereof, even His meat, is contemptible. 1:13 Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness is it! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought that which was torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this of your hand? saith the LORD.
Like the instruction we read in Leviticus 22, the priest would profane God’s holy name by offering polluted sacrifice.
Here, YHWH proclaims that they have despised, polluted, and profaned His name by sneering at the meat of God’s Words and calling them a burden, and furthermore by offering despicable things (i.e., the torn, lame, and sick; spiritually false doctrines) in place of God’s Word.
The New Testament, of course, upholds the Old in this matter.
The “profanation” or “blaspheming” of God’s name written of in Holy Scripture is akin to calling yourself “God’s people” and then acting contrary to God’s Word. In this the nearly all of the church of God groups profane and blaspheme the Eternal’s holy name [reputation].
The apostle Paul stated:
Romans 2:17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,
2:18 And knowest His will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law; 2:19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, 2:20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. 2:21 Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? 2:22 Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? 2:23 Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God? 2:24 For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you [by your sins], as it is written. [Possibly a reference to Isaiah 52:5]
Paul here says that the hypocrisy of the people calling themselves godly, caused God’s name to be blasphemed.
They would teach against stealing, adultery, and idolatry, yet partake of these sins themselves. In each of these things, the name of God was, and is, blasphemed.
Blaspheming of the “name” of God means besmirching the “reputation and character” of the true God. That is, one’s conduct is such so as to lead the heathen world to blaspheme and reproach both one’s religion, and its Author.
By one’s hypocrisy and crimes, the pagan world is led to despise a religion that is observed to have no effect in purifying and restraining its professors; and of course the reproach will end up on the God of the religion–that is, the true God. A life of purity would tend to honor God; a life of impurity does the reverse.
1Timothy 6:1 Let as many servants as are under the yoke count their own masters worthy of all honour, that the name of God and his doctrine be not blasphemed.
Paul testifies here that the name of God won’t be blasphemed if servants honor their masters. (Again, nothing to do with pronouncing a certain name)
The conclusion of the 3rd commandment?
If you say you are His, then act like it!
Love JHVH/YHWH our Elohim and love your neighbor as yourself. Bind up their wounds. Go the extra mile. Give, even out of poverty. Remove people’s unnecessary burdens–don’t place the traditions of men on the people.
No words of chastisement or instruction are ever given in Scripture to worship any set of phonetic sounds or symbols. Will you add to the Word of God?
A name is a created thing, which God commands us not to worship.
We are commanded to worship God, not the letters or pronunciation of His name!
When we ascribe power to a name, we are ascribing power to a created thing and not to the Creator.
A name has no significance or meaning without the person. A name only serves to identify.
Names and titles applied to God describe His attributes, character, and being. Those who call on a name or title as the way to salvation should read Matthew 7:21-22 and Luke 6:46, which speak of people who call upon and appropriate the name of the Lord, but do not do the things that He commands.
There are several books called the Peshitta, I am referring to the oldest manuscripts.
Some of these people make the claim that the Peshitta is a compilation of the New Testament in Hebrew.
The New Testament is a mix of a few first century Hebrew epistles and mainly Greek epistles; the language of writing depending on the language of the recipients. Hebrews and possibly certain Gospels like John being in Hebrew because the writer and the audience were Hebrew speakers, while the epistles addressed to the Greek assemblies were written in Greek.
The New Testament collection of books was canonized in Pella by the apostles and disciples that had fled there in 67 A.D. but the Peshitta was not written for another 100 years!
The first Peshitta New Testament was made about 100 years after the New Testament was canonized in c 67 A.D. and was a translation from the languages of the Epistles [mainly Greek] canonized at Pella c 67 A.D.
Far from proving that the original language of the New Testament was Hebrew; the Aramaic Peshitta was itself a translation from those original Hebrew and Greek books into Syriac Aramaic; Syriac Aramaic is NOT Hebrew!
The people who first wrote the Peshitta originally excluded 2 Peter, 2 John, 3 John, Jude and Revelation, which were later added after 600 A.D; proving that the first Peshitta was not an original book but was a translation from the original Greek!
The Peshitta was and is not in HEBREW; it was and is Aramaic [Syriac], which is not Hebrew or Greek, but Syriac! and therefore the Peshitta is NO proof at all that the whole New Testament was written in Hebrew!
Since the Peshitta is Syriac and NOT Hebrew! The Peshitta was a translation from the original Hebrew and Greek books into Syriac.
The true original New Testament was canonized in Pella and finalized when John was liberated from Patmos and brought the Revelation to Pella. John was chosen to receive and publish the Revelation because of his indisputable credentials as an original apostle and an original disciple of Christ from the beginning of Christ’s ministry.
Yet the translators into the Syriac Peshitta rejected Revelation and other epistles for another five hundred years. If the Peshitta was the original canon of scripture, why did it reject key scripture?
The most common language spoken in Judea during the time of Christ and immediately afterwards was Aramaic Syriac and Greek: NOT Hebrew! which was by then considered a language for scholars.
The Peshitta is also remarkably consistent with the King James Version.
Did Paul write in Hebrew; not Greek? Did Paul preach only in Hebrew to his Greek audiences who could not understand Hebrew?
There are some who have challenged the longstanding belief that the New Testament was largely written in Greek. Is there a way to demonstrate, directly from scripture, the language that the New testament was written in?
The apostle Paul instructs that if a person speaks in a tongue (language) which is unknown to others, he should not speak unless there is an interpreter present. For no one will understand (1 Cor 14:27-28).
This is only reasonable, for how can a speaker edify and inform a group if they cannot understand him?
This is a direct COMMAND by the apostle Paul, preserved in Holy Scripture; to either speak all things in the language of the audience or have an interpreter do so, or to refrain from speaking!
This COMMAND is entirely consistent with the fact that the Holy Spirit of God caused that every man heard the Word of God (which would necessarily include God’s name) IN HIS OWN LANGUAGE in Acts 2:1-12.
Is it reasonable to think, that the apostle Paul set an example contrary to his own commandments, when he spoke more languages than anyone? 1 Cor 14:18. Would he really have preached and written in Hebrew to Greek speakers against hi sown teachings, when he knew Greek?
Is it reasonable to believe that Paul spoke and wrote to the Greek speaking people in Hebrew, when he declared that he would rather speak five words and be understood than ten thousand words in an unknown language that cannot be understood? 1 Cor 14:19
Many of the letters of the New Testament were written to Greek congregations and were written by Paul. In light of his openly declared position and instructions to others, is there any doubt that he wrote each letter in the language of those persons to whom those letters were sent?
Koine Greek, the Greek of the common man of that time, was as much the common language of the day as English is today. There is no doubt that much of the New Testament was, in fact written in Greek. The historical evidence is there and the internal scriptural evidence is there.
Some Holy Names people will say that the letters of Paul were written in Hebrew and addressed to Jewish elders, but were immediately translated into Greek for the local congregations.
This argument contradicts their own position, since whether it was written by Paul in Greek, or whether others of the first century Assembly translated Paul’s writings from Hebrew into Greek; they were still approved by Paul to be in Greek!
For Paul to write in a language that had to be translated before it could be understood by the congregations would also be very cumbersome and unlikely since Paul already spoke those languages.
We also have the point that no copies of the New Testament writings in Hebrew exist, while very old New Testament writings in Koine Greek do exist. To say that these Books were originally written in Hebrew is a pure assumption, without either scriptural or historical support.
Finally, the question arises; If those Koine Greek translations were made by the original disciples of Paul and sanctioned by Paul, for Paul’s congregations, made immediately upon receiving the original letters: Why do these folks have a problem with the Koine Greek texts?
After all, if the disciples of Paul, during his lifetime had no problem with using the Koine Greek language when writing or speaking the names of God? Why should we? And why did Paul not rebuke or instruct them in this point?
Even if it could be proved that all scripture was written in Hebrew (which cannot be done, even parts of the Old testament were written in Aramaic Syriac and not Hebrew.), there is no way to know how to properly pronounce these words, for the vowel points of Hebrew are missing in the word YHVH..
If we must pronounce these words correctly to gain access to God and there is no way of knowing how to do so, where does that leave us?
Sacred names teachings leave us without FAITH that God has heard us!
This dogma is a direct attack on FAITH and without faith we cannot please God! Heb 11:6 We are told that we must Repent from breaking God’s laws and be baptized Acts 2:38 and Acts 22:16, for the remission of sins and the Holy Spirit shall be given to us.
This is the way to life, true religion is in how we LIVE, what we DO, it is in our ACTIONS and BEHAVIOUR, it is not about how to pronounce a word! Jas 1:27.
Names of God: His Titles Revealed in Scripture
“ELOHIM” (or Elohay) is the first name for God found in the Bible, and it’s used throughout the Old Testament over 2,300 times. Elohim comes from the Hebrew root meaning “strength” or “power”, and has the unusual characteristic of being plural in form. In Genesis 1:1, we read, “In the beginning Elohim created the heaven and the earth.” Right from the start, this plural form for the name of God is used to describe the One God, a mystery that is uncovered throughout the rest of the Bible.
Throughout scripture, Elohim is combined with other words to describe certain characteristics of God. Some examples:
Elohay Kedem – God of the Beginning: (Deuteronomy 33:27).
Elohay Mishpat – God Of Justice: (Isaiah 30:18).
Elohay Selichot – God Of Forgiveness: (Nehemiah 9:17).
Elohay Marom – God Of Heights: (Micah 6:6).
Elohay Mikarov – God Who Is Near: (Jeremiah 23:23).
Elohay Mauzi – God Of My Strength: (Psalm 43:2).
Elohay Tehilati – God Of My Praise: (Psalm 109:1).
Elohay Yishi – God Of My Salvation: (Psalm 18:46).
Elohim Kedoshim – Holy God: (Leviticus 19:2, Joshua 24:19).
Elohim Chaiyim – Living God: (Jeremiah 10:10).
Elohay Elohim – God Of Gods: (Deuteronomy 10:17).
“EL” is another name used for God in the Bible, showing up about 200 times in the Old Testament. El is the simple form arising from Elohim, and is often combined with other words for descriptive emphasis.
El HaNe’eman – The Faithful God: (Deuteronomy 7:9).
El HaGadol – The Great God: (Deuteronomy 10:17).
El HaKadosh – The Holy God: (Isaiah 5:16).
El Yisrael – The God Of Israel: (Psalm 68:35).
El HaShamayim – The God Of The Heavens: (Psalm 136:26).
El De’ot – The God Of Knowledge: (1 Samuel 2:3).
El Emet – The God Of Truth: (Psalm 31:6).
El Yeshuati – The God Of My Salvation: (Isaiah 12:2).
El Elyon – The Most High God: (Genesis 14:18).
Immanu El – God Is With Us: (Isaiah 7:14).
El Olam – The God Of Eternity (Genesis 21:33).
El Echad – The One God: (Malachi 2:10).
“ELAH” is another name for God, used about 70 times in the Old Testament. Again, when combined with other words, we see different attributes of God.
Elah Yerush’lem – God of Jerusalem: (Ezra 7:19).
Elah Yisrael – God of Israel: (Ezra 5:1).
Elah Sh’maya – God of Heaven: (Ezra 7:23).
Elah Sh’maya V’Arah – God of Heaven and Earth: (Ezra 5:11).
All of these names are acceptable names for BOTH the Father and for the Son. Yet we are commanded to call the Father by the most exalted title of all: ”Our Father!”
In whose name should we pray? In the name of the son for he is our High priest and only intercessor with the Father.
in the scriptures; whenever God sought to reveal a new aspect of himself and his relationship with man; he gave men a NEW NAME by which to call him!
The new name of the Son: is Yeshua [Jesus] Mashiach [Christ].
Yeshua a short form of Yehoshua [English Joshua] and in Hebrew is a verbal derivative from “to rescue”, “to deliver” “Salvation”. Its usage among the Jews of the Second Temple period, the Biblical Aramaic/Hebrew name יֵשׁוּעַ Yeshua‘ was common: the Hebrew Bible mentions several individuals with this name – while also using their full name Joshua.
The name Yehoshua has the form of a compound of “Yeho-” and “shua”: Yeho- יְהוֹ is another form of יָהו Yahu, a theophoric element standing for the name of God יהוח (the Tetragrammaton YHWH, sometimes transcribed into English as Yahweh or Jehovah), and שׁוּעַ shua‘ is a noun meaning “a cry for help”, “a saving cry”, that is to say, a shout given when in need of rescue. Together, the name would then literally mean, “God is a saving-cry,” that is to say, shout to God when in need of help.
The English name Jesus derives from the Late Latin name Iesus, which transliterates the Koine Greek name Ἰησοῦς Iēsoûs.
In the Septuagint and other Greek-language Jewish texts, such as the writings of Josephus and Philo of Alexandria, Ἰησοῦς Iēsoûs is the standard Koine Greek form used to translate BOTH of the Hebrew names: Yehoshua and Yeshua.
Greek Ἰησοῦς or Iēsoûs is also used to represent the name of Joshua son of Nun in the New Testament passages Acts 7:45 and Hebrews 4:8. (It was even used in the Septuagint to translate the name Hoshea in one of the three verses where this referred to Joshua the son of Nun—Deut. 32:44.)
Jesus is merely the English form of Yeshua which the scriptures demand that Christ be called.
Jesus a pagan name?
Sacred Namers also promulgate a lie when they put down the name of Jesus as being “pagan.” They say erroneously that Jesus is from “Ye Zeus.” “Jesus” is not from “Zeus” but from “Iesous.”
In fact, the Greek form of Zeus is…Zeusor Dios [NOT Iesous]. Zeus (means “Living”) was the chief God of the Greeks…
The idea that Iesous is the Ionic masculine form of Iaso, the Greek goddess of healing cannot be substantiated. In the abridged and unabridged editions of Greek-English Lexicon by Liddell and Scott there is no such word connected with Iaso. Iesous is listed as the name of Jesus, which this Lexicon says is the Greek form of the Hebrew name ‘Joshua’.
Iesous is in no way related to Iaso, the Greek goddess of healing. The New International Dictionary of New Testament Theology says this: “Iesous is the Greek form of the Old Testament Jewish name Yeshua, arrived at by transcribing the Hebrew and adding an s to the nom. to facilitate declension.” Language scholars all agree that the name “Jesus” is a direct translation of the Greek “Joshua” which proves that the “Zeus” story is a lie against the Savior.
A point to consider is that when Paul preached to Greeks at Athens, he preached about Jesus (Acts 17:18,31).
The Greeks accused Paul of being a ‘setter forth of strange gods’. They did not connect the name “Jesus” with the hometown Greek god named “Zeus.”
What do you believe? The words of men, or the Scriptures?
This simply points out that there is not a single historical, scholarly, or biblical source that etymologically connects “Jesus” with the god “Zeus.” All authorities state that “Jesus” is the Greek form of the Hebrew word ‘Joshua’ or Aramaic word ‘Jeshua.’ It has also the same root as “Hosea” or “Hoshea” or “Oshea.” In fact, Joshua’s birth name was Hoshea (Deut 32:44), which means “salvation.” JHWH (or YHWH) added to the word for salvation gave us Jehovah-Oshea or Je-oshea … or Joshua. The names Hosea, Joshua, and Jesus are all derived from the same Hebrew root word meaning “salvation” but “Joshua” and “Jesus” include an additional idea, “YHWH or JHWH is Salvation!”
Praise Your Name
1 Chronicles 29:13 “Now therefore, our Mighty One, we thank You and praise Your glorious name. (NKJ). Some SN advocates would ask the question: How do we praise His name if we don’t/won’t use it?
Does the use of the word “name” literally refer to the language word of God’s name, or does it rather refer to His personage as a whole? Does God really desire that some word be praised?
Does He want His name worshiped? Is a name really to be an object of worship and adoration?
Using the above-cited Scripture, was David really giving the praise to God, or was he just worshiping a word (God’s name)? Ask yourself these questions.
When “your name has been dragged through the mud,” has it ruined the name “Fred” or “Wilma” or whatever, or has it rather sullied your personal reputation–your personage? Is this not rather what God is concerned about? That His name [His reputation] be not blasphemed?
If it is His actual literal name that is meant in Scripture, then pray tell, what is the meaning of this?: Jeremiah 23:25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in My name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed [a false Num 12:6]. 23:26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; 23:27 Which think to cause My people to forget My name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten
My name for Baal.
I know many “sacred namers” like verse 27.
It is pointed to, saying, ” ‘…forgotten My name for Baal..’ ‘baal’ means ‘lord,’ and what have the translators changed His name to…LORD–they have forgotten ‘Yahweh’ for ‘LORD’ (baal)”
However, did you notice in verse 25 that these prophets which have caused God’s people to forget His name also “…prophesy lies in My name…”?
Do you see the problem with interpreting this as literally speaking of His name (JHVH, YHVH, YHWH)? If a man was preaching, “Yahweh has said…” “Yahweh has commanded….” “Yahweh has determined…” “Yahweh has sent…”, how could anyone possibly forget His actual name–for it was constantly being prophesied in?
Now to answer the Sacred Name question: How do we praise His name if we don’t/won’t use a name?
Let me show you a more excellent way! We should be as our fathers in faith: David, being after God’s heart, and Abraham, being a friend of God. We should “present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is our reasonable service.”
We should “love one another” and “we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren–”By this shall all men know that ye are Messiah’s disciples”
“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
It is our actions of righteousness, our works in agreement with our faith, which glorifies our Father–not the name or title we use to identify Him. As a father myself, I think He is most glorified in seeing His children imitate His manners. It is not what my son calls me that shows me his praise and love, but rather it is his actions according to what I have taught him.
As Jesus showed us in His model prayer, we are to regard Him as “our Father,” and we are to respect and glorify our Father as dear children–imitating Him, being perfect as He is perfect. Herein is our God and Father glorified.
DOES Your Salvation Depends Upon Using a “Sacred Name”
A main myth of the SN movement is that without using the “Sacred Name” we cannot hope to attain “this prize” (eternal/everlasting life).
For Sacred Namers, salvation/everlasting life depends upon using “The Sacred Name.”
Many sacred name teachers believe, and very vocally teach, that unless one uses the Hebrew name, and only the Hebrew name for God (and uses it correctly), he or she will be eternally damned. [It should be noted that not all sacred name teachers are so dogmatic.] But, there is no Bible text that supports this assertion.
Throughout Scripture salvation/everlasting life is a free gift given by God’s grace and is not dependent upon any works including the use, or the “right” pronunciation, of any word.
Some Sacred Namers will think it but won’t actually SAY that your salvation is dependent on the pronunciation of a word, but then they make allusions that the non-user of the name is not going to be in the resurrction.
WARNING! Such Sacred Namers are setting up a condition for salvation by works, which is not Biblical and which constitutes the teaching of another gospel!
Paul was very clear that those who teach another gospel are twice condemned: “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel–which is really no gospel at all. Evidently some people are throwing you into confusion and are trying to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned! As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!” — Galatians 1:6-9.
So, you might say, “I know we are saved by grace and that works do not earn us salvation. But we are still required to keep the law.” Yes, I agree, It is true that ‘good works’ flow from those walking in the spirit. But if one takes that stance in regard to Hebrew names for God they are standing on sinking sand for that teaching is not in the law; NOT even in the third commandment; and would negate grace. Must we now speak in tongues to have God hear us? Must we all speak biblical Hebrew?
In fact the Sacred name teaching is the sin of Idolatry is worshipping a word! It is also the sin of Kabbalah witchcraft; which is attaching a magical significance or power to a word and its pronunciation!
“YHVH” is the Hebrew word that is translated as “LORD” [all caps]. Found more often in the Old Testament than any other name for God (approximately 7,000 times), the title is also referred to as the “Tetragrammaton,” meaning the “The Four Letters”.
YHVH comes from the Hebrew verb “to be” and is the special name that God revealed to Moses at the burning bush. “And God said to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM; and He said, thus you shall say to the sons of Israel, I AM has sent me to you… this is My eternal name, and this is how I am to be recalled for all generations’” (Exodus 3:14-15). Therefore, YHVH declares God’s absolute being – the source of everything, without beginning and without end.
Although some pronounce YHVH as “Jehovah” or “Yaweh,” scholars really don’t know the proper pronunciation. The Jews stopped pronouncing this name by about 200 A.D., out of fear of breaking the commandment “You shall not take the name of YHVH your God in vain” (Exodus 20:7). (Today’s rabbis typically use “Adonai” in place of YHVH.)
Here are some examples of YHVH used in scripture:
YHVH Elohim – LORD God: (Genesis 2:4).
YHVH M’kadesh – The LORD Who Makes Holy: (Ezekiel 37:28).
HVH Yireh – The LORD Who Sees/provides: (Genesis 22:14).
YHVH Nissi – The LORD My Banner: (Exodus 17:15).
YHVH Shalom – The LORD Of Peace: (Judges 6:24).
YHVH Tzidkaynu – The LORD Our Righteousness: (Jeremiah 33:16). Y
HVH O’saynu – The LORD our Maker: (Psalm 95:6).
In fact YHVH was not a known name until revealed to Moses; so the Sacred Names people are condemning all people before Moses, including Abel and Noah, to damnation; for not pronouncing the word YHVH in reference to God!
The LORD who revealed Himself as YHVH in the Old Testament is revealed as Yeshua (Jesus) in the New Testament.
Jesus shares the same attributes as YHVH and clearly claims to be YHVH. In John 8:56-59, Jesus presents himself as the “I AM.” When challenged by some Jewish leaders regarding His claim of seeing Abraham (who lived some 2000 years earlier), Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was born, I AM.”
Those Jewish leaders understood that Jesus was claiming to be YHVH. This is clearly established when they tried to stone Him to death for what they considered blasphemy under Jewish Law.
In Romans 10:9, Paul declares, “if you confess with your mouth Yeshua as LORD… you shall be saved.” Immediately thereafter, in Romans 10:13, Paul backs up this declaration by quoting the Old Testament, “Whoever will call upon the name of the LORD (YHVH) will be saved” (Joel 2:32). Calling on Yeshua (Jesus) as Lord is the same as calling Him YHVH, because Yeshua (Jesus) is YHVH (LORD), the Messiah foretold throughout the entire Old Testament.
Exodus 6:2-3 Messiah appeared to Abraham as El Shaddai and NOT YHVH.
YHVH refers to the Creator who gave up his divinity to become man and was sacrificed for his creation.
One of Christ’s teachings was to reveal the existence of the Father.
Some Old Testament scriptures do speak of the Father, but this was NOT understood in Judaism, which to this day rejects the understanding that God is one family made up of more than one person.
Modern Rabbinic Judaism has rejected Christ based on their Unitarian take on the nature of God as only one person. that is the thing they have stumbled over.
And clearly the meaning of YHVH as the Ever Existing Eternal Self Existing One is applicable to BOTH the Father and the Son; just like Elohim is a uniplural word that can be applied to many individuals as a family of beings.
The Creator YHVH was made flesh and revealed the existence of YHVH the also eternally existing Father, by expounding on the spirit of the law and the prophets. By revealing himself as the SON he also revealed that the SON has a Father, to whom Yeshua [Messiah, Christ, YHVH] continually referred.
The term YHVH refers to BOTH the Father and the Son and its meanings are applicable to both.
The son, Yeshua [Emanuel, Jesus ] WAS the Creator “YHVH” and was made flesh to die and to then be resurrected by the Father who was also called YHVH..
YHVH can refer to either the Father or to the son, just like Elohim; although in the vast majority of cases in the Old Testament; Elohim and YHVH refers to the Son.
Jesus said “My Father and I are ONE” is it any wonder that the same descriptive names could apply to both of them?
How many people do you know of today, who bear their father’s name? especially their surname?
Elohim is a family name and can refer to any member of the God family; Father and Son.
That is why at the creation of man Elohim Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and the Son YHVH, complied and executed his Father’s desire. It is these things that were not understood and have given rise to the Jewish fable of Unitarianism.
Yes, the Father is subtly revealed in the Old Testament scriptures, but it takes the New Testament teachings to bring out that Jesus Christ was also YHVH and Elohim. along with the Father in the beginning; and gave up his God-hood for the sake of his creation and became a man of flesh. It takes the New Testament scriptures and the Holy Spirit to understand that there are two individual beings called by the same family names.
Confusion of Persons.
Some sacred names people will say that the word YHVH refers to God the Father and that the Son came into existence at his conception.
Beyond the fact that this error of the Unitarians, makes God the Father an adulterer and presents Christ as born a bastard; The word YHVH often translated as LORD or Adoni, refers to BOTH the Father AND to the son, who was Creator and GAVE UP his God-hood to become flesh.
During the Old Testament period the people knew of only one being in the God family, even though there were subtle hints of another. It was when Christ came and revealed the spiritual things, that the truth that there were two beings in the God family, that we graduate from the spiritual ignorance of Unitarianism, into the New Covenant understanding of the nature and identification of Messiah the Son, and the enormity of his sacrifice in discarding his God-hood to die for his creation..
Was the being who later became the son; God, YHVH, Elohim?
Yes, he was an Elohim, a YHVH, and the very Creator God; before he gave that up to be made flesh.
Was the man Jesus Christ God?
No, he had given up his God-hood to become a man, to become flesh and to die for his creation.
Is he now a God again?
Yes; he has been changed to spirit and is exalted above all authorities and powers except the Father.
Many of those who have bought into the Jewish Kabalistic fable of the sacred names have also bought into the error of Unitarianism, and others have become hopelessly confused about the Father and the son.
ONE NAME FOR SALVATION: PRONUNCIATION OR MEANING?
Acts 4:10-12 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
The meaning of Acts 4:12 is that there is no other being in whom men can find salvation other than Jesus Christ. There is a fundamental assumption by Sacred Name advocates that we must place a great emphasis on the way the Messiah’s name is spoken. This assumption is not truth. Upon what basis is this doctrine founded? Why should we stress something that even God Himself did not stress?
There is no place in the Bible where God stressed that His name, or the name of the Messiah must be pronounced in a certain way. He only declared that His name was “ehyeh asher ehyeh” (I AM THAT I AM), and later, YHVH (or JHVH). YHWH is the third person singular form, most likely coming from the old Hebrew word hayah (He is), which has the meaning of “to be.”
The name for God was not a special name that was not part of the Hebrew vocabulary, but was actually words they were already familiar with. In other words, when God declared who He was through the use of the Hebrew language, He was trying to portray who He was, i.e. the “self-existing one.” God only said “YHVH” because He was speaking to the Hebrews.
There is nothing in the OT that would lead us to believe that if God would have spoken to any other non-Hebrew, that He still would have said YHWH was His name. God’s name is not language-specific, nor is it dependent on the right pronunciation. There is no Scripture that can be shown to teach otherwise—such simply does not exist. No one can bring forth one that will.
What makes salvation effective, or prayer effective, is not the pronunciation of the Messiah’s name, but FAITH in the Messiah. His name is not mystical. To teach such is Kabbalism. There is nothing about His name that has the ability to save in and of itself.
This is a misunderstanding of the ancients’ concept of a name, particularly the Hebrew concept.
To a Jew, one’s name signifies their person, worth, character, reputation, or authority. EXAMPLE: When the Scripture says that the “name of the Lord is a strong tower” it does not mean that there is a tower shaped in the letters of Lord that the righteous run into, but that the person of YHWH is like a strong tower wherein lies safety. The focus is on the person, not the verbal symbol of the person.
Another example is found in Revelation where John said that there were “a few names in Sardis who have not defiled their clothes” (Revelation 3:4). John clearly had people in mind, not names. Because a person’s name does represent them, however, when one uses that name, they carry the person’s authority, character, and reputation along with it. The focus must always be seen on the person, and not the actual pronunciation of the name.
How did the bible use the concept of a “name”?”
Was Tabitha offended in Acts 9:36 when she is also referred to as Dorcas ??? Both mean “gazelle” so why would she be?
Was Peter (Petros) offended when Christ called him that and also called him Cephas (Joh 1:42)? “Both mean “pebble” so why would he be offended?
The disciple Andrew did not seem to mind using the Hebrew title for (Actually the Aramaic form of the Heb. Mashiach) Messiah with the Greek in John 1:41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
Emmanuel: Matthew 1:21-25 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us. Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife: And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.
Now did they call Yeshua/Jesus “Emmanuel” or “Immanuel”? In what manner did they do so? So again we see the true meaning of the term “name.” Immanuel means “with us is God” and that is who Jesus was! The name signified the character or reputation of the individual. This did not mean a pronunciation of the name.
You are saved – not by pronouncing a name – but the righteous life works and sacrificial death our Savior and Master – The Lord Jesus Christ.
One who deeply studies Sacred Names literature rapidly becomes aware of one thing: Scriptures are misinterpreted and literalism is used excessively to force Scriptures beyond the limits of context in order to substantiate their doctrine. Most Sacred Names adherents are absolutely locked into the concept that the word ‘name’ can only mean one thing – the correct pronunciation of the Tetragrammaton. This is connected directly to Kabbalism or mystic Judaism – which is witchcraft and the depths of Kabbala.
Many Will Come in My Name
Jesus said that many will come in His name (i.e., using His true name) and deceive many (Matt. 24:4-5). The Savior came in His Father’s name, not His own (Jn. 5:43). There are over 20,000 various church organizations that call themselves ‘Christian’, and they all differ from each other in their doctrine yet they all use the same name, they are the many and they are using the correct name to deceive.
The many deceivers will come in the correct name! How many have come in the names pronounced ‘YHWH’ or ‘Yahshua’ (sic)? Could ‘Yahshua’ then be His name? Or is the correct name, Jesus Christ?
If the phonetic sound of God the Father’s, and the Son’s name were extremely important to the Father, it would also be important to his Son who is our Savior. But was this phonetic sound YHVH important to our Savior when He taught his Father’s way to salvation?
In Mark 15:34-35, just before his death:
“Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? And some of them that stood by, when they heard it, said, Behold, he calls Elias.”
These verses in Mark show the prophetic fulfillment of Psalm 22:1-2:
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? why are you so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring? O my God, I cry in the day time, but you hear not; and in the night season, and am not silent.”
Even the Lamsa Bible, translated from the ancient Aramaic Peshitta text, quotes Mark 15:34: “Eli, Eli, lemana shabakthani.”
IF one must use only the proper phonetic sound of the proper name when addressing the Supreme Sovereign of all that exists: THEN our Savior used the WRONG NAME “Eli” when referring to the Father during the most critical moment of his life. These words, ‘Eli, Eli, [NOT YHVH] lama shabakthani,’ are not even Hebrew, but are of Chaldean-derived Aramaic!
Jesus Christ is our EXAMPLE!
Sacred Names like all of modern apostate Rabbinic Judaism in NOT Moses-ism at all!
Sacred Names is plain and outright; IDOLATRY, the worship of the pronunciation of a word!
Which IDOLATRY is the basic occult foundation of Kabbalism and witchcraft, which teaches that knowing and using the true names of spirits gives one access to. and power with; those spirits.
