Romans 5

Romans 5

It is understood that every baby falls a few times in learning to walk, but when we fall spiritually; do we repent and get up to go forward like a child? or do we justify our sins and continue in them, like a child who falls and refuses to get back up?

It is also understood that every person does not immediately have all knowledge upon conversion;  The converted life is one of growing, learning and overcoming.

When we find ourselves in error do we reject the error to embrace God’s Word of truth; or do we fight tooth and claw to justify our error?  The godly person will accept the truth from God’s Word with great joy, and will NOT reject parts of God’s Word to justify his errors.

Romans 5:1 Therefore being justified by faith we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: 5:2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace [forgiveness for past sins sincerely repented of] wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

It is our  faith and belief in the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, coupled with sincere repentance, which effectively atones for past sins; which then reconciles and brings peace for us with God the Father.

Romans 2:13   (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

When we are called to God the Father through Christ and we believe we must repent of past sin; and when we do sincerely repent and commit to STOP sinning,  the sacrifice of Christ is applied to the sincerely repentant, and God’s grace and forgiveness for past sins repented of; reconciles us to God the Father!

God calls; we believe him in faith; faith is translated into the action of repentance; and God then gives grace [mercy, forgiveness] reconciling us to him. We must then continue in faith believing the Word of God and continuing in our commitment to zealously abstain from sin through diligently living by every Word of God.

If we overcome sin until the very end, through the Spirit and nature of God dwelling in us; we shall be raised to eternal life in glorious unity with God the Father and Messiah the Christ.

John 17:22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one [with God], even as we are one: 17:23  I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one;

When we are called, we must believe God; and when that belief translates into the action of repentance from past sin, and a commitment to sin no more; we are then reconciled to God the Father (John 5:14, John 8:11) by the application of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.  After that, Christ will dwell IN us; enabling us to love and live by every Word of God the Father as Jesus Christ did!

If we then go out and sin again; that new sin separates us from God our Father AGAIN, and we are no better off than at the first!

If we then justify our willful compromising with the Word of God and justify our sin instead of repenting and stopping the sin; there will come a point in time where God will  spuw us out of the body of Christ into correction until we learn our lesson or are destroyed.

Hebrews 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

Brethren, we are at this point today

Revelation 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.

3:17 Because thou sayest, I am [spiritually] rich, and increased with goods [knowledge], and have need of nothing [spiritual; and knowest not that thou art [spiritually] wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind [knowing nothing spiritually], and naked [and are NOT clothed with God’s righteousness]

What is our sin? In our pride we have turned God’s grace into a license to continue in sin through a willing compromise and even rejection of portions of God’s Word to justify ourselves; Even rejecting  Nehemiah on the Sanctity of the Sabbath, and rejecting  the commandment to observe the New Moons.

Romans 5:3 And not only so, but we [the true godly faithful and zealous for the word of God] glory in tribulations also: [understand that our trials forge us into the people that God wants us to be] knowing that tribulation worketh patience; 5:4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope [FAITH]:

As we experience trials and overcome them with God’s strength, we learn to TRUST in our Deliverer: which trust is: FAITH.

5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

2 John 1:6  And this is love, that we walk [Godly Love is to keep God’s Word] after his commandments.

The love of God, the love of Christ; comes through the Holy Spirit of God, the very nature of God  being given to dwell within us; IF we obey God and keep his Word.

Acts 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Romans 5:6 For when we were yet without [spiritual] strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. 5:7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us [by allowing the death of his only begotten much beloved son], in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

Sincerely repented PAST sins will be justified by the sacrifice of Christ; after which we are to go forward and sin no more, through the indwelling of God’s Spirit.  If Christ is in us, we will be strengthened to live as he lived and to walk as he walked.

1 John 2:3   And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.

2:4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

2:5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.

2:6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk [live], even as he walked [lived].

Romans 5:9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. 5:10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life [lived in us through his spirit].

We can be atoned for by the application of the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ the Lamb of God to the sincerely repentant; and we receive salvation from death, through Christ’s perfect law keeping life being lived in us and by us through the Holy Spirit

Jesus Christ the ultimate Lamb of God, being an acceptable sacrifice for sin, was resurrected to spirit and accepted as the Wave Offering for us: and he was accepted as our High Priest;  that we through his Spirit after forgiveness for PAST sin, we might go forward and live without sin as he lived without sin!

The Holy Spirit of God is then given to dwell in the sincerely repentant, empowering them to overcome sin [and death].

Therefore it was his perfect, law abiding life; which makes him a true sacrifice for sin, reconciling us to God the Father; and it is Jesus Christ dwelling in us and keeping his Father’s law IN US; that keeps us in a harmonious relationship with God the Father; through which relationship we receive his promises of salvation from death.

If we turn back into the bondage of Satan and sin typified by Egypt, through willful compromise with God’s Word; we shall be destroyed for our faithlessness and sins; just as the Israelites who wanted to turn back into Egypt were destroyed.

5:11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.

The chief joy of the sincerely repentant is God the Father and every Word of God, and we rejoice in our espoused Husband and our Savior, Jesus Christ; like a bride rejoices in her husband! And in our passionate love we abandon all things of the past for our future with God the Father and our new Husband: Learning to please him and to do his will as reflected in his zeal for his Father’s law, above all else!

5:12 Wherefore, as by one man [Adam] sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: 5:13 (For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.

Sin is the transgression of the law (1 John 3:4)  therefore where there is no law there is no sin.

The Law Pre-existed the Covenants and was not a Part of the Mosaic Covenant

The covenant of obedience is that we must live by every Word of God, the laws that God gave through Moses were not part of that Covenant, they were the things that God wanted done; while the Covenant itself was a commitment to do anything and everything that God wanted done.

The sacrificial system was instituted as soon as Adam sinned in the garden and then later Cain slew Abel over his own unacceptable sacrifice.  The Sabbath was established at creation and Israel was told to REMEMBER the Sabbath which had been forgotten in Egypt; the law of clean and unclean was known from creation and was kept by Noah taking seven pairs of clean animals and only one pair of each unclean animal aboard the ark (Gen 7:2).

All people on the  earth except eight souls were destroyed for sin, and since if there was no law there was no breaking of a non existent law:  the law did indeed exist because the people were destroyed for their sins!  The same thing can be said about Sodom, they were destroyed for their sin, the existence of the sin being proof of the existence of the law:  Long BEFORE Moses and Sinai.

God kept Abimelech king of Gerar (Gen 20) from doing what?  From sinning by taking Sarah!  God kept Joseph from sinning with Potiphar’s wife.  The existence of the sin proves the existence of a law against those sinful deeds:  Long BWFORE Sinai and Moses!

God’s law was not some new thing instituted at Sinai, God’s Law  existed from creation and was first broken in the flesh by Adam and Eve.

The law defines both sin and righteousness [which is the keeping of the whole Word of God]:

Sin [death] reigned – before the formal law given through Moses – for two thousand years before Moses; showing that the law and sin existed from Adam until Moses.

Noah, Abraham, Able and others obeyed God BEFORE Moses!

The point is that God gave a formal codified law through Moses, intending for the formal law given at Sinai to be God’s teacher and God’s instructions in the way to life eternal.

The law given at Sinai was given to us by a merciful God to teach us to eschew those ways that bring death and to teach us to embrace the ways and the nature of God which brings life eternal.

5:14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.

All of humanity’s sins began with Adam and would be removed by Christ upon sincere repentance.

5:15 But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 5:16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.

Adam’s gift to man was sin, and the natural consequence of sin is DEATH.

The gift’s of Jesus Christ are atonement for sin, and the gift of the Holy Spirit, which empowers the sincerely repentant who are reconciled to God the Father by Christ’s sacrifice, to then go forward to live a Christ-like life passionately living by every Word of God.

5:17 For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.

If we live as Adam lived, in sin, we shall receive death; but if we live in Christ, living as Christ lived in zealous faithfulness to the whole Word of God to do the will of God the Father, we shall inherit life eternal!

Therefore if we sincerely repent of living contrary to the Word of God, and commit to go forward and sin no more through the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, we shall be justified by Christ’s sacrifice for our PAST sins and receive the free gift of mercy or grace and forgiveness of sincerely repented PAST sins.

5:18 Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.

If we follow Adam to sin, we are of Adam and sinful, and we will die eternally without sincere repentance; and if we follow Christ to enthusiastically keep the Law and Word of God, we shall be righteous as Christ is righteous, and live forever after our resurrection as he lives forever after his resurrection!

5:19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous

We are made righteous by our sincere repentance and by being forgiven of PAST sin through the perfect life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ; and then going forward to live as Christ lived; through the power of Christ living IN us by the Spirit of God!].

5:20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound.

Israel’s law breaking with a knowledge of the law, demonstrated that even the knowledge of the law cannot save from death.

Grace or forgiveness through the free will sacrifice of the Creator for the past sins of the sincerely repentant is the essential atonement, and brings the gift of the Holy Spirit that empowers us to live as Christ lived, in perfect sinless living by every Word of God.

But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness [righteousness is the keeping of the Word of God] unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.

Forgiveness reigns over death; through sincere repentance, the application of Christ’s sacrifice and going forward in righteousness, which is the keeping of the whole Word of God.
