Encouragement to trust in God and to neither envy the apparent physical prosperity nor fear the deeds of the wicked; for the wicked will soon perish and their deeds with them
Psalm 37:1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 37:2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Always be absolutely faithful to trust in the LORD and to live by every Word of God, and we shall be raised up to eternal life.
37:3 Trust in the LORD, and do good [live by every Word of God]; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. 37:5 Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
When the righteous of God are raised from their graves they shall shine brightly forever.
Psalm 37:6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment [justice] as the noonday.
Do not be concerned over the prosperity of the wicked for this is Satan’s world and he gives to those who follow him. These physical things will perish with the wicked, while those who put their trust in the LORD to live by God’s every Word will live forever and partake of eternal riches.
Avoid envying the wicked who will quickly perish, and remain dedicated in Christ-like zeal to live by every Word of God, and we shall be raised up to eternal life like Jesus was.
37:7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. 37:8 Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
37:9 For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. 37:10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place [we shall look for them and they will not be found, because the unrepentant wicked will perish forever], and it shall not be.
Those who are meek and submissive to the Word of God shall inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.
Psalm 37:11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
37:12 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.
The wicked attack godliness with deceitful words and lies.
37:13 The LORD shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.
God and his faithful laugh at the devises of the wicked knowing that they are doomed to destruction if they will not sincerely repent; while those who love and live by every Word of God shall be delivered and sanctified forever.
37:14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.
The wicked seek to destroy the godly righteous away from living by every Word of God.
37:15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.
The devices of the wicked will be turned back against them and they shall fall by their own actions.
37:16 A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. 37:17 For the arms [strength, wealth] of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous.
The Eternal upholds those who love him and live by his Word, but the unrepentant wicked will surely perish.
37:18 The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. 37:19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
The Eternal delivers his faithful in the day of trouble, raising them up from the very grave and death itself to eternal life with God and every good thing.
In the ultimate end the unrepentant wicked shall be consumed in the fires of eternal death in Gehenna.
37:20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.
The wicked take selfishly and then laugh at the righteous for their honesty, while the godly are a merciful people like their Father in heaven.
37:21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.
37:22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off [destroyed].
37:23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD [a good man conducts himself according to the Word of God]: and he delighteth in his [God’s] way [every Word of God]. 37:24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him [will teach him and lift him up] with his hand.
The measure of a person is not whether they have problems, for all have sinned and everyone has problems; the true measure of a person is in how he handles his troubles.
A godly man will acknowledge his errors and turn to God in sincere repentance, getting back up and continuing in the godly way, having learned from his mistakes.
The wicked will justify themselves and continue in their errors and sins, defending falsehood in their great pride and preferring to cleave to sin rather than to admit error and accept truth.
Those who live by every Word of God will be filled with the unleavened Bread of Life, Jesus Christ the Passover Lamb of God.
Psalm 37:25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
Spiritually this refers to the Bread of Eternal Life, which is the Word of God, Jesus Christ; who will dwell in the godly through the Holy Spirit. God will never forsake those who diligently live by every Word of God; and even if they must suffer to learn important lessons in the present, if they are faithful they will be raised up to eternal life.
37:26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed (Luk 8:5-15).
The godly, like their God; are merciful.
37:27 Depart from evil, and do good [live by every Word of God]; and dwell for evermore [shall receive eternal life]. 37:28 For the LORD loveth judgment [justice], and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
The wicked shall come to their end, but those who live by every Word of God will be established forever
37:29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
Righteousness is to live by every Word of God; the righteous of the Mosaic Covenant inherited the physical promised land, and the righteous of the New Covenant shall inherit the Promised Land of eternal life.
37:30 The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment [justice].
The Word of God is Wisdom and Justice.
37:31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.
The Law and Word of God are written on the hearts of the righteous who have received the gift of God’s Holy Spirit.
God the Father has been calling out a few and offering them his Spirit since righteous Abel (Heb 11); writing the Word of God on their hearts (Jer 31). Ultimately God will call all humanity to his righteousness (Joel 2:28, Is 2:2).
37:32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him. 37:33 The LORD will not leave [the righteous] him in his hand [in the hand of the wicked], nor [God will not condemn those who live by his Word] condemn him when he is judged.
The wicked seek to persecute and destroy the godly, but God will deliver those who live by his Word.
37:34 Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off [destroyed], thou [the righteous will see the unrepentant wicked perish] shalt see it.
Those first fruits who patiently endure and live by every Word of God will be changed to spirit and granted eternal life to inherit the earth as kings and priests of God forever (Rev 5:10). The unrepentant wicked shall be destroyed forever.
37:35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself [growing strong] like a green bay tree. 37:36 Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
The strongest and greatest of the unrepentant wicked including Satan himself; shall be destroyed never to be found again.
37:37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
The final end of the person who lives by every Word of God is eternal life at peace with God.
37:38 But the transgressors [of any part of the Word of God] shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.
The final end of the unrepentant wicked is eternal destruction (Rev 20:15, 21:8).
37:39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. 37:40 And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.
Those who live by every Word of God are precious in God’s eyes and they shall be delivered to eternal life with God.
