Proverbs 24 – 25

Proverbs 24

Proverbs 24:1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them. 24:2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

Do not envy the apparent success of commandment breakers for it is only a temporary reward from their father the devil for following him.  Their success will vanish way with eternal death for the unrepentant.

24:3 Through wisdom is an house builded; and by understanding it is established: 24:4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.

Physical houses are built by careful preparation, thought and planning, followed by hard work; so our place in the Temple of God [his family] is built through hard spiritual work; laboring night and day in all the learning and doing of the Word of God the Father in heaven.

24:5 A wise man is strong; yea, a man of knowledge increaseth strength.

The wisdom of God is of far greater value than all worldliness and earthly gain which is transitory and temporary, because God’s Word brings eternal life and endures forever.

24:6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counsellors there is safety.

The scripture is the collective wisdom of God written by very many God inspired men; it is the very nature of God the Father and of Jesus Christ in print.  Let the Word of God be our counselor at all times!  By God’s wisdom and power the Adversary is defeated!

24:7 Wisdom is too high [too hard to understand] for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate [a foolish person will not be exalted to judge God’s people]24:8 He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.

The wise men of a city would sit in the city gate so as to be easily found and would judge the people there.   A foolish man who scorns the wisdom of the Word of God will never be exalted by the Eternal to rule over his heritage.

24:9 The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men.

Even thinking of departing from any part of the Word of God or compromising with his ways is foolishness and sin and will bring our destruction of not sincerely repented of.

24:10 If thou faint in the day of adversity, thy strength is small.

If we turn aside to temptation, or give way even a very little under trial we are spiritually weak and foolish; not having grounded ourselves in sound doctrine and zeal for all the ways of our God.

24:11 If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; 24:12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider it? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it? and shall not he render to every man according to his works?

If anyone has knowledge of an approaching calamity and does not warn people; their blood will be required by our Maker for not giving a warning.  (Ezekiel 33)

24:13 My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste: 24:14 So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.

The Word of God is compared to honey for its goodness.

Come take and eat of the wondrous wisdom of the Word of God, internalize the nature of the Holy Father in heaven and the wisdom of eternities which brings life eternal in peaceful prosperity.  Taste of and fully internalize the wisdom that created the universe and all that therein is!

24:15 Lay not wait, O wicked man, against the dwelling of the righteous; spoil not his resting place:

Let the godly be delivered from the wicked who seek to take his life by deceiving the righteous into false teachings and sin.  The righteous person is delivered by his zeal to live by every Word of God of the Beloved Mighty One who inhabits eternity!

The godly righteous run to their Awesome Deliverer and never try to mitigate their trials by giving way to sin.

24:16 For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.

Those who truly and sincerely love Jesus Christ and God the Father with passionate zeal, may make many mistakes; yet they keep getting up and calling out to their Beloved LORD and they keep on trying until they learn the ways of God and overcome all sin through the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

24:17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth: 24:18 Lest the LORD see it, and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.

Ezekiel  33:11   Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Jesus Christ gave his life for his enemies and if we are like him we will not rejoice at the fall of the wicked but rather at their repentance and deliverance.

God has called out a people to righteousness; and we have for the most part, like physical Israel, failed in our calling to diligently live by every Word of God.

Those who claim to be in the faith and look down on others in their pride understand nothing.  Who will face the greater condemnation?  The one who knows something and does not do it; or the one who does not know, and yet does the best he can?

Proverbs 24:19 Fret not thyself because of evil men, neither be thou envious at the wicked: 24:20 For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle [lamp] of the wicked shall be put out.

Don’t envy the success of the wicked who depart from the wisdom of the Word of God for they shall perish in a short time.

24:21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: and meddle not with them that are given to change: 24:22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?

Respect all lawful authority; first God our Father in heaven, then our espoused spiritual Husband Jesus Christ; and then follow others who are faithful to God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son.  Finally respect the law of the land insofar as it does not conflict with the Word of God; and if it does conflict with God’s Word then leave that land.

24:23 These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

God dos not respect persons above others in judging, but treats all equally in his judgment.

24:24 He that saith unto the wicked, Thou are righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him: 24:25 But to them that rebuke him [those that rebuke the wicked] shall be delight [they shall have a blessing from God], and a good blessing shall come upon them.

Ultimately those who correct the wicked will be exalted by God over the people, while those who overlook wickedness shall be accursed from Christ and the people.

Very many in today’s Spiritual Ekklesia close their eyes to wickedness within their assemblies; and because sin is not rebuked, sin abounds.

24:26 Every man shall kiss his lips that giveth a right [gives righteous godly judgment] answer.

2 Timothy 2:15   Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, [learn to] rightly dividing the word of truth.

The godly wise lead many to righteousness and are a blessing to the person who embraces the truth of God, receiving eternal life.

Proverbs 24:27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field [prioritize eternal spiritual things]; and afterwards build thine house.

Build your business before spending time on personal endeavors.

Prioritize building our spiritual character house above worldly pleasures; we should never compromise with the Word of God to avoid physical trials or for physical gain.

24:28 Be not a witness against thy neighbour without cause; and deceive not with thy lips.

Do not bear false witness; and do not witness [gossip] pointlessly without a good purpose.

Return good for evil.

Luke 6:35   But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Give good for the evil you receive, and God will bless you

Proverbs  24:29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.

Matthew 25:28   Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.

25:29  For unto every one that hath shall be given, and he shall have abundance: but from him that hath not shall be taken away even that which he hath.

25:30 And cast ye the unprofitable servant into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

The spiritually lazy and lukewarm who do not work hard to find salvation through the diligent passionate zealous study of the Word of God; to learn and to live by every Word of God, and to be in FULL UNITY with Jesus Christ and God the Father: shall be spiritually impoverished and fall into sin.

They are unprofitable servants who will not be approved by God

Proverbs 24:30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding; 24:31 And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettles had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down.

24:32 Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. 24:33 Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: 24:34 So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and thy want as an armed man.

We must work hard applying ourselves diligently to internalize the whole nature of God in order to be spiritually prosperous and enter into eternal life.

Proverbs 25

Proverbs 25:1 These are also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.  25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter.

God conceals much in order to test people and inspire a zeal to seek out his wisdom.  Those who would have eternal life must demonstrate their eagerness to learn by diligently seeking the wisdom of God.

25:3 The heaven for height, and the earth for depth, and the heart [the wisdom of the King of kings] of kings is unsearchable.

Those chosen to be resurrected to eternal life by the King of kings, will be those who diligently seek the wisdom of God which comes from living by every Word of God.

25:4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.

When the called out study and live by every Word of God, they will also be tried and tested and polished and will be the better for their trials.

25:5 Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.

The King of kings will never exalt the wicked, complacent, lukewarm and spiritually lazy as his helpers.

25:6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men: 25:7 For better it is that it be said unto thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldest be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thine eyes have seen.

Matthew 23:12   And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.

The spiritually wise would NEVER exalt themselves with high sounding titles and claims of greatness.  Jesus said “only God [the Father] is good,” and he was always humble before his Father.

Therefore those who make great claims and take grand titles without the fruits to back it up are false teachers, of which there are many in today’s Spiritual Ekklesia.

Proverbs 25:8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest thou know not what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbour hath put thee to shame.  25:9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbour himself; and discover not a secret to another: 25:10 Lest he that heareth it put thee to shame, and thine infamy turn not away.

Follow Matthew 18 in disputes and seek a private resolution whenever possible.

The godly word that saves a brother is as:

25:11 A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.

A reprover of sin and teacher of righteousness, is greatly esteemed by those who love godliness.

25:12 As an earring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, so is a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.

25:13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

The faithful messenger who delivers the true message that he was sent to deliver, is like a cool breeze in the heat of summer.

The faithful deliverer of the gospel of warning and repentance, is a delight to his Lord.

Those who pervert God’s warning into a business model approach to increase their personal followers; are a shame, an execration, and a foul stink in the nostrils of God the Father and Jesus Christ.

Christ commands his people to learn, to live by and to teach others to live by; every Word of God.  As the cool of the autumn after a hot summer is refreshing to the workmen, the faithful messenger is a delight to his Lord.

25:14 Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain.

Those who claim to have God’s Spirit when they do not, are deceivers and false teachers leading the unwary to destruction.  TEST THE SPIRITS, to see if they are of God; test men and spirits by their zeal to live by every Word of God  (Mat 7).

25:15 By long forbearing [persistent effort with patience] is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue [wise words are strong] breaketh the bone.

Do not get discouraged, but study God’s Word patiently and persistently; while zealously keeping what you have learned and over time you will grow much in the wisdom of God.

25:16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it.

Read God’s Word a little at a time with much prayer and thought; lest reading overmuch without carefully thinking about the material; it goes over your head and you do not gain any real understanding of the intended meaning.

Matthew  6:5   And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

6:7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

6:8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.  Jesus then goes on to give a model prayer covering what is truly important.

Do not be a pest to others, and do not waste God’s time with endless insincere prayers meaning nothing.  Say what you mean and mean what you say in prayer.  Be sincere and avoid long-winded meaningless utterances.  It is better to pray for two minutes and make your meaningful point; then to pray for hours and brag to others about your long prayers.  There can be much self-righteousness in improper prayer.  Start correcting this by never discussing your personal prayer life with others.

Proverbs  25:17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbour’s house; lest he be weary of thee, and so hate thee.

Be very careful not to make a pest of yourself in your visiting, do not stay overlong and DO help your host in every way you can, not taking advantage.

25:18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbour is a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.

Never bear false witness against anyone.  This is more than outright lies; it is also using partial truths which deceive about the overall situation; it is about spin and innuendo.

25:19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble is like a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.

To have confidence in men and not God is foolishness that will bring much sorrow.

Seek out the Eternal God and follow God to live by His Word, and do not make idols of men and their false traditions instead of being faithful to live by every Word of Almighty God!

25:20 As he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, and as vinegar upon nitre [soda bicarbonate], so is he that singeth [joyful] songs to an heavy heart.

Joyful songs are vexation to a heavy heart.  There will be much bitter repentance for the lukewarm called out when they are in great tribulation; but they will be filled with joy at the resurrection if they sincerely repent!

25:21 If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink: 25:22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD shall reward thee.

Set an example of godliness and teach the salvation of the Bread of Life eternal to all peoples; for the Living Water of God’s Spirit will be poured on all repentant flesh (Joel 2:28).

Teach the gospel of warning, repentance and salvation through Jesus Christ; and those who despise you now will ultimately understand and bless you for your faithfulness.

25:23 The north wind driveth away rain: so doth an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.

Even a look of disapproval can correct the wise

25:24 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.

Does Jesus Christ want a wife who is combative and fights his will; or does he want a wife who loves him and is quick to work together with and cooperate with him?

25:25 As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country.

Good news is refreshing to the spirit and God’s people who delight in him will hold their heads up high as they see the day approaching (Luke 21).

25:26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked is as a troubled fountain, and a corrupt spring.

For the wicked to be exalted above the godly righteous is a great evil

25:27 It is not good to eat [too] much honey: so for men to search [to exalt themselves and sing their own praises is shameful]  their own glory is not glory.

For a man to exalt himself is not wise all who do so shall be abased.  Just do your jobs with no thought of yourself.

It is far better to be acceptable to God and accursed by all men; than to be praised by all mankind and separated from God.

25:28 He that hath no rule over his own spirit [cannot control his temper or actions] is like a city that is broken down, and without walls.

Self-control and genuine ruler-ship over one’s own spirit is to be desired above physical wealth, and is a fruit of the Holy Spirit of God.
