The DPRK agreed to stop TESTING in exchange for a halt to American military exercises threatening the North and the remains of about fifty US servicemen have been returned. Other than that there has been no progress in the goal of denuclearizing the peninsula n exchange for US aid.
The DPRK is complaining bitterly that the US is making demands and offering nothing in return while the US is complaining that the DPRK is continuing to build missiles and nuclear capacity since they had only promised to cease TESTING until the US offered some actual tangible commitment to aid on their part. See this Korea background piece.

Following the downing of the Syrian Sukhoi warplane by Israel, a Syrian source says although the army’s main priority is concluding the military operations in rebel-held areas, the response to the incident ‘will not have to wait long.’
The first step of the Syrian response would be to complete operations against those centers, he said. Afterwards “the direct response to the Israeli forces will come at the appropriate time.” The third part of the response would be to “foil any attempt to push Syria’s allies [Iran/Hezbollah] away from the (border) area.”
After the Western created Syrian rebellion is vanquished the initial response is likely to come via Gaza, where Hamas has been keeping up the pressure while carefully avoiding a major military confrontation until Syria/Hezbollah completes the defeat of western proxy rebels in Syria. Once thousands of Israeli’s are tied up in Gaza the northern front is likely to heat up.

1 July: Helsinki Summit- It appears that a deal is being crafted proposing that Russia abandon Syria and Iran to defeat by the US and Israel, in exchange for recognition of Russian sovereignty over Crimea, the roll back of US sanctions on Russia and a US disengagement from Ukraine.
The Helsinki summit will be an effort to finalize an arrangement between the US and Russia concerning Ukraine and Syria/Iran. Any such deal may not be publicized but will become evident by the course of events. President Putin has already announced that “thirteen planes, fourteen helicopters, and 1,140 personnel have left Syria in recent days.”
Congress is unlikely to approve a Russian Crimea or remove sanctions on Russia, limiting Trump’s options.
Update- 3 July: Mideast War- With congress unwilling to abandon Crimea and sanctions on Russia, hopes for a deal on Iranian withdrawal from Syria in Helsinki seem remote. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov: “Iran is one of the key powers in the region and it would be absolutely unrealistic to expect it to abandon its interests,”
Europe- An American push for a major pull back from Europe could come after the Middle East war, when the need for US European based forces to support the Middle East war operations ends. After the coming Middle East War, Trump is poised to enable the rise of Europe by backing away from the EU and NATO.
The Pentagon is already analyzing the cost and impact of a large-scale withdrawal or transfer of American troops stationed in Germany and drastically reducing ties with NATO. Although the military is characterizing this study as routine, Trump is very serious in his intentions.
Trump is expected to make heavy demands on Europe in order to keep US troops in Europe at the July NATO summit and to push hard after the approaching Middle East War. Such moves by Donald Trump could end the Merkel Chancellorship in Germany and would lay the ground work for the rise of a New Federal Europe as prophesied.
Trump’s attacks on NATO members, his trade tariffs against EU nations, his rejection of the Iran nuclear deal and the Paris climate agreement and his political attacks on leaders such as German Chancellor Angela Merkel have already begun the process of bringing in the Establishment’s New World Order.
While Trump claims to be anti establishment, he is a front man for the Financial Military Industrial Establishment, working to establish their long planned New World Order; which will backfire on them almost immediately.
In addition, if they do not get their act together Britain seems headed for a hard Brexit without a deal in March. A hard British divorce from Europe could result in a US British alliance replacing NATO in Anglo Saxon thinking.
July Daily News Blog

As well, with Brexit coming in March and a US departure from NATO in the offing after the looming Mideast war, Donald Trump and PM May are examining a close US British alliance and trade pact outside of the EU and NATO. Syria- Western “rebel” proxies surrender in Deraa.
Europe- Trump’s bullying is having the desired affect as latest polls indicate:voters would welcome a US troop withdrawal from Germany, with only about a third of Germans wanting US soldiers to stay. 11 July: Israel- Syria reports that “The aircraft of the Israeli enemy launches a number of missiles at several army positions” in the southwestern province of Quneitra, causing material damage
The Israeli navy stopped and seized a Gaza boat carrying wounded to hospital in Cyprus. Interfering in the evacuation of wounded is a serious war crime.
USA- After launching a vicious tirade against Germany Trump sent the NATO summit into shock demanding that members double their military spending. Trump continues to lie about US and NATO defense spending claiming that the US provides 90% of the NATO budget when in reality, the U.S. share of the commonly funded NATO budget is currently just over 22 percent. Trump a front man for the military, industrial, financial establishment is intent on setting up a US departure from NATO after the coming Middle East war.
The Trump administration lays out a list of another 200 billion worth of Chinese goods to be taxed beginning in September. President Trump is now in Brussels at the NATO summit where he is attacking the other members and making threats to leave. Netanyahu is in Moscow today trying to lay the groundwork for a Trump Putin deal on Syria at the July 16 Helsinki summit.
The hope is for Russia to drive Iran out of Syria in exchange for US concessions on Ukraine, but the reality is that Iran is intent on remaining in Syria and Russia will not attack its Iranian ally. The only real option is for Russia to substantially leave Syria and let Israel and the US deal with Iran / Syria in exchange for US promises on Ukraine.

Russia is again closing the area on July 25 and 26. Cooperatively the US has already withdrawn all of its naval forces from the Syrian coast. These moves including the summits are designed to allow Russia to test its weapons, declare victory and withdraw the bulk of its forces from Syria, if a prearranged deal is signed at the Helsinki summit.
Clearly Iran will not accede to Israeli wishes and leave Syria, and once many Russians have left conflict is all but certain.
Israel- Under an arrangement between the Haredi and the coalition, the Orthodox conscription bill is to be passed into law by the Knesset next week and the government is to follow up by legislating an early election for spring 2019. War on Gaza could begin at any time but is increasingly likely after the current coalition crisis is resolved and before elections.
Likud primaries to be held in early 20019 and Bibi will probably want to fight the primaries with a victory under his belt. The extremely popular retired Israeli Chief of Staff Gantz can enter politics in the opposition in October as its man of the hour.
Netanyahu is already dreaming up his next government (Yossi Verter, Haaretz+) Netanyahu is visiting key persons to discuss elections. Bibi would like to see Trump’s peace plan submitted after the election in Israel to avoid mixing diplomatic issues into a campaign that will focus on three themes: security, security and security.

- An uprising against the Shiite regime by the 1.75 million Ahwazi Arabs of Iran’s oil-rich Khuzestan Province.
- An uprising in the Kurdish provinces with promises of uniting them in a Kurdish state with Kurds in Iraq/Syria. More than 15 million Kurds (out of Iran’s total population of 80 million) dwell in Western Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kermanshah, Ilam and Hamadan provinces, as well as a substantial number in North Khorasan.
- Yesterday, Gen. Qassem Soleimani, commander of Iran’s Middle East war fronts, informed President Hassan Rouhani that he stood ready to implement Rouhani’s threat to disrupt Gulf oil exports as needed. Iran has multiple assets to interrupt shipping including C-802 and C-201 anti-ship missiles fired from batteries mounted on mobile trucks.
Israel has begun a build up in the Gaza region, including Iron Dome rocket defense batteries. Logically once the Haredi draft law has been resolved in about two weeks time, Israel would want to deal with Gaza first [which is also Iran’s agenda] before war breaks out with Syria-Hezbollah-Iran in the North.
