Preparing the Way of the Lord

Mark 3 – 4

Mark 3

It is not a certainty that this was in Capernaum, since in Capernaum they were used to him healing on the Sabbath. Rather this appears to be somewhat later in Jerusalem, and that Jesus was there with the doctors of the law who had formerly been his teachers.

A good part of the animosity of these men comes from a student proving his teachers wrong, and rising above them. The wisdom of Jesus excited envy and jealousy in those who had had high honour and were always right in their own eyes; just like any new understanding offends in the church today.

Mark 3:1 And he entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand. 3:2 And they watched him, whether he would heal him on the sabbath day; that they might accuse him.

Jesus showing wisdom, placed the question before his detractors; and then leaving they no way out; he healed the man. That enraged them and they began to see him as a real threat to themselves and sought ways to destroy him.

3:3 And he saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. 3:4 And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.

3:5 And when he had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, he saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand. And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other.

3:6 And the Pharisees went forth, and straightway took counsel with the Herodians against him, how they might destroy him.

Jesus then went back to the seashore of Galilee to escape his persecutors, but the people followed him

3:7 But Jesus withdrew himself with his disciples to the sea: and a great multitude from Galilee followed him, and from Judaea, 3:8 And from Jerusalem, and from Idumaea, and from beyond Jordan; and they about Tyre and Sidon, a great multitude, when they had heard what great things he did, came unto him.

He then asked for a ship [probably from his fishermen disciples], and continued to preach from the boat to the shore and to heal many

3:9 And he spake to his disciples, that a small ship should wait on him because of the multitude, lest they should throng him. 3:10 For he had healed many; insomuch that they pressed upon him for to touch him, as many as had plagues. 3:11 And unclean spirits, when they saw him, fell down before him, and cried, saying, Thou art the Son of God. 3:12 And he straitly charged them that they should not make him known.

Then he went up on a hilltop, and there called those he wanted, and commissioned them to go out and preach the Word of God and the Gospel of Salvation, heal the sick and cast out demons.

3:13 And he goeth up into a mountain, and calleth unto him whom he would: and they came unto him. 3:14 And he ordained twelve, that they should be with him, and that he might send them forth to preach,

At this point the twelve were given power to preach the things that Jesus had taught them; and given power over sickness and evil spirits.

3:15 And to have power to heal sicknesses, and to cast out devils: 3:16 And Simon he surnamed Peter; 3:17 And James the son of Zebedee, and John the brother of James; and he surnamed them Boanerges, which is, The sons of thunder: 3:18 And Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Canaanite, 3:19 And Judas Iscariot, which also betrayed him: and they went into an house.

The crowds were compacted around Christ so they could not as much as eat anything

3:20 And the multitude cometh together again, so that they could not so much as eat bread.

3:21 And when his friends heard of it, they went out to lay hold on him: for they said, He is beside himself [is overwhelmed].

The religious establishment of that day, was so jealous that they declared that Jesus had gone mad. Saying that Jesus had a demon.

3:22 And the scribes which came down from Jerusalem said, He hath Beelzebub, and by the prince of the devils casteth he out devils.

Jesus answered them by saying:

3:23 And he called them unto him, and said unto them in parables, How can Satan cast out Satan? 3:24 And if a kingdom be divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 3:25 And if a house be divided against itself, that house cannot stand.

3:26 And if Satan rise up against himself, and be divided, he cannot stand, but hath an end.

Brethren: the House of God is NOT divided! His house [his temple] is a spiritual house and not a physical corporation!  While a corporate church splits and divides, none considers that it is NOT God’s church [temple] anyway!

Only those who have sincerely repented and committed themselves to hate and abhor all sin and compromise with any of God’s commandments; and who dedicatedly follow the Lamb wherever he goes regardless of what any man or corporation tells him; only the man who endures to death itself in zeal to live by every Word of God; can be a part of the true spiritual people of God!

Professing Christianity today has ended as anything resembling godliness. What they do not understand is that those truly called of God and dedicated to him are NOT all in any one such group, they are scattered individuals in many groups and often standing alone.

Organizations perish, but the faithful shall never perish; instead they shall make themselves ready; for the Kingdom of God is now at hand!

The following parable teaches that when a strong spirit makes a man his house; only one stronger that it can drive it out. Therefore only the power of God drives out demons.

3:27 No man can enter into a strong man’s house, and spoil his goods, except he will first bind the strong man; and then he will spoil his house.

Those who call good evil and evil good, are blaspheming against the good Spirit of God, and are in danger of damnation unless they repent. This is a great problem in the church today as many call their false traditions good, and justify them in rebellion against the Word of God.

3:28 Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme: 3:29 But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation. 3:30 Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

Then Jesus revealed that all those who follow his teachings and eat the meat of God’s Word with HIM are his spiritual family! No organized corporate church is the family of GOD! That is a grand LIE; to distract people from the spiritual family of Jesus Christ and God the Father!

ONLY those who uncompromisingly keep all of God’s Word; which is doing and internalizing the will of God; are a part of the spiritual family of God!!!

3:31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him. 3:32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee. 3:33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren? 3:34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 3:35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.

Mark 4

Mark 4:1 And he began again to teach by the [Galilee] sea side: and there was gathered unto him a great multitude, so that he entered into a ship, and sat in the sea; and the whole multitude was by the sea on the land.

4:2 And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine,

The Parable of the Sower

4:3 Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow: 4:4 And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up. 4:5 And some fell on stony ground, where it had not much earth; and immediately it sprang up, because it had no depth of earth: 4:6 But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.4:7 And some fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up, and choked it, and it yielded no fruit.

4:8 And other fell on good ground, and did yield fruit that sprang up and increased; and brought forth, some thirty, and some sixty, and some an hundred.

Christ then declared that he who has ears to hear [is repentant. zealously keeping all the commandments and filled with God’s Spirit] would hear and understand.

4:9 And he said unto them, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.

Then in private the disciples asked him to explain the saying

4:10 And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.

Christ then explained the meaning

4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you [the Called Out who are faithful] it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without [breakers and compromisers with God’s commandments who do not have God’s Spirit], all these things are done in parables: 4:12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time [not being called out at this time] they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

Christ asks them: How then will ye know all parables? The answer is found in:

Acts 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.

Only those who Obey all the teachings and commandments of Christ will be given God’s Holy Spirit of understanding and eternal life. Those who compromise and break God’s commandments, exalting their own traditions and justifying themselves instead of sincerely REPENTING; WILL NOT have God’s Spirit and WILL NOT understand the Word of God.

Again it is written of Jesus Christ, that even eternal salvation is dependent on total obedience to Christ; who commanded us to also obey God the Father, as He himself obeyed God the Father.

Hebrews 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; 5:9 And being made perfect, he [Yeshua, Jesus] became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him; 5:10  Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.

Mark 4:13 And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

The parable of the sower is explained

4:14 The sower soweth the word [the Gospel of Warning, Repentance and Salvation through faithful uncompromising diligent obedience to live by every Word of God].

4:15 And these are they by the way side, where the word is sown; but when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in their hearts.

How many of us have been enticed by the pleasures of this world.  This verse is key to understanding that buying on Sabbath and Holy Days for our own pleasure [contrary to God’s Word] is a great sin.

We MUST REPENT of idolizing our false traditions, corporate organizations and mere mortal men; and TURN BACK to our espoused spiritual Husband and God the Father, in enthusiastic, loving, zealous, uncompromising, obedience! We must dedicate ourselves to PLEASING God and doing what God says is right; instead of pleasing ourselves and doing what we think is right!

4:16 And these are they likewise which are sown on stony ground; who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with gladness; 4:17 And have no root in themselves, and so endure but for a time: afterward, when affliction or persecution ariseth for the word’s sake, immediately they are offended.

4:18 And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word, 4:19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.

The faithfully obedient to God the Father and Jesus Christ will experience many trials; but they will learn from those trials as Christ learned from his trials; and will bring forth much spiritual growth and fruit (John 15),

4:20 And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it, and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.

Now Jesus declares that all things will be ultimately be revealed. Consider that all our deeds will be made known: therefore make sure that all our deeds are godly, lest we see great shame when our wickedness becomes common knowledge.

When we please God he will see and his reward is with him: when we sin in secret, God sees and he will reveal our deeds and we shall be ashamed.

4:21 And he said unto them, Is a candle brought to be put under a bushel, or under a bed? and not to be set on a candlestick? 4:22 For there is nothing hid, which shall not be manifested; neither was any thing kept secret, but that it should come [become known] abroad.

Jesus then warns that we shall receive of the things of God in direct measure, according to what we do with the understanding God gives us.

4:23 If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. 4:24 And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you [what you receive from God is in direct proportion to the effort you give to study and obeying God’s Word]: and unto you that hear [who Listen and KEEP the Word of God] shall more be given.

He that studies and prays for understanding shall receive; IF he also makes what he learns a part of his behavior and KEEPS what he learns.

4:25 For he that hath, to him shall be given: and he that hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he hath.

Jesus then likens the Kingdom of God to the spreading of much seed [the broad preaching of the Gospel of REPENTANCE] so that at the time of reaping there is much fruit. The seed of the Gospel must germinate and grow in each person until they die and then comes the harvest; which is what the Biblical Festivals are all about; the reaping of the early harvest in the spring and then the reaping of the main harvest in the autumn.

4:26 And he said, So is the kingdom of God, as if a man should cast seed into the ground; 4:27 And should sleep, and rise night and day, and the seed should spring and grow up, he knoweth not how.4:28 For the earth bringeth forth fruit of herself; first the blade, then the ear, after that the full corn [grain] in the ear. 4:29 But when the fruit is brought forth, immediately he putteth in the sickle, because the harvest is come.

The Family of God is likened to a very small seed which grows to fill the whole earth

4:30 And he said, Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? or with what comparison shall we compare it?

4:31 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that be in the earth: 4:32 But when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.

4:33 And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear [learn] it. 4:34 But without a parable spake he not unto them: and when they were alone, he expounded all things to his disciples.

The crossing of the sea of Galilee

4:35 And the same day, when the even was come, he saith unto them, Let us pass over unto the other side. 4:36 And when they had sent away the multitude, they took him even as he was in the ship. And there were also with him other little ships.

4:37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. 4:38 And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we [all] perish? 4:39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

When the sea was calmed; Jesus asked his disciples why they had no faith, that he who cast out demons and healed the sick could not be saved from a storm? Even today there is no faith in the church, no faith that we may depend on our espoused Husband; and when we face trials we immediately begin to compromise with the Word of God trying to save ourselves; when we should be running to our God, as our ONLY REFUGE and Mighty High Tower of Strength!

4:40 And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? 4:41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?
