The entry of Christ into Jerusalem before the Passover
This was a fore-type of an even greater entry into Jerusalem when Christ comes WITH his saints to deliver all Israel and all humanity from the madness of rebellion against the only way to peace and life.
In Israel it was customary for a new king to ride into his capital on a colt of an ass which had never been ridden before. Jesus by entering the city in this manner was openly declaring himself to be a king.
Matthew says that both an ass and a colt were taken. The colt would have been ridden and its mother accompanied them.
Matthew 21:2 Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me.
It is very possible that the mother ass was tethered there, along with her youngish colt. But the disciples intending to bring the colt, it would be expected that the mother ass would accompany the colt, if only to keep it from becoming too nervous. Such asses, accompanied by their colts, were a regular sight around Jerusalem.
Mark 11:1 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples, 11:2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him. 11:3 And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither.
11:4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. 11:5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? 11:6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.
11:7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments [for a horse blanket] on him; and he sat upon him.
They then began the about two mile triumphal journey into the city; as a king proceeding to his coronation. Along the way he was welcomed as a new king which further enraged the jealousy and fear of those who had tried to defeat him. They may have thought, like the disciples, that he was about to declare himself king with the support of the people and that their days of rule were coming to an end.
Can you imagine Christ’s future triumphal procession along WITH his resurrected saints, as they march from the Mount of Olives into the city of Jerusalem as the liberators of all humanity on that day!!! May God speed the day!!!
11:8 And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed them in the way. 11:9 And they that went before, and they that followed [those that surrounded him], cried, saying, Hosanna [salvation, save us, deliver us]; Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord: 11:10 Blessed be the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.
Jesus went to the temple when he entered the city that Friday, and then left the city near sunset beginning the Sabbath.
11:11 And Jesus entered into Jerusalem, and into the temple: and when he had looked round about upon all things, and now the eventide was come, he went out unto Bethany with the twelve.
11:12 And on the morrow [the weekly Sabbath], when they were come from Bethany [going to the Temple], he was hungry: 11:13 And seeing a fig tree afar off having leaves, he came, if haply he might find any thing thereon: and when he came to it, he found nothing but leaves; for the time of figs was not yet.
Jesus cursed a fig tree when the time for figs was not yet. Why? As a last example for his disciples that those who do not bear fruit; if we do not multiply the talent given to us and bear fruit, we shall have what we have been given taken away and given to another; we shall be unworthy servants and shall not be in the resurrection to spirit.
Matthew 7:21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?
7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
Mark 11:14 And Jesus answered and said unto it, No man eat fruit of thee hereafter for ever. And his disciples heard it.
Then Jesus acted as a king to cleanse the Temple; as he will most assuredly, cleanse and cast the spiritually unprofitable out of his spiritual temple; the called out who have no zeal to live by every Word of God, and cling to false traditions, exalting idols of men and corporate entities instead.
We DO NOT have it made because we are a member of some corporate church! We must become like Christ, and love God the Father and the teachings and commandments of God [with Christ-like zeal] enough to study them and to DO them with a passion for all the things of God!
We MUST have the child-like attitude toward Christ and God the Father that our greatest desire is to: be like HIM!
11:15 And they come to Jerusalem [on the Sabbath]: and Jesus went into the temple, and began to cast out them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves; 11:16 And would not suffer that any man should carry any vessel through the temple.
Jesus Christ did this, cleansing the temple of these money changers and sellers of sacrificial animals on THE SABBATH DAY; and prevented the carrying of anything on the Sabbath Day.
Jesus acted with the authority of a King and rebuked the people who had made the house of the Father a place of sin by buying and selling on the Sabbath. You leaders of the church today: Take heed that you are not polluting the temple of God [the brethren], with exhortations to compromise with the Sabbath and the commandments of God, as those people did and were CAST OUT!
Today, the people with God’s Spirit are his Temple; that temple is to be made and kept pure and clean from ALL sin: the brethren of the Calling to God are NOT to tolerate any sin or compromise with the Word of God the Father and Jesus Christ!
Anyone who says that Christ loves and understands and will overlook our sins and compromises with God’s Word: IS IGNORANT or a LIAR! Yes Jesus loves and he will forgive the sincerely Repentant!
It is because he loves us that he will NOT forgive unrepented sin!
Unrepented sin is the cause of the decay and death of the ones he loves, therefore Jesus Christ HATES and ABHORS ALL SIN! He will NOT tolerate any sin and will destroy those who pollute his Father’s house; who pollutes the brethren [the Temple of God’s Spirit], by teaching them to pollute the Sabbath and High Days and to tolerate sin!
Those who teach compromise with any of God’s commandments like the Sabbath etc; or those who teach the brethren to tolerate sin and wink at evil deeds or false doctrines for the sake of organizational unity: WILL BE DESTROYED for polluting the spiritual temple of God the Father; the called out brethren.
1 Corinthians 3:17 If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
Mark 11:17 And he taught, saying unto them, Is it not written, My house shall be called of all nations the house of prayer? but ye have made it a den of thieves. 11:18 And the scribes and chief priests heard it, and sought how they might destroy him: for they feared him, because all the people was astonished at his doctrine. 11:19 And when even was come [completing the first full day [a weekly Sabbath] AFTER the day he entered the city], he went out of the city.
The day after the cursing the fig tree was dried up; this was a lesson that those of the brethren who do not bear spiritual fruit – like the man who buried his talent – will also be destroyed.
11:20 And in the morning [Sunday], as they passed by, they saw the fig tree dried up from the roots.
11:21 And Peter calling to remembrance saith unto him, Master, behold, the fig tree which thou cursedst is withered away.
A lesson of faith
11:22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
Moving a mountain was only an example; we are to speak according to God’s will.
If we are doing those things that are pleasing to God; which is loving God enough to keep his Word and do his will; we shall receive according to our faith and the will of God.
Nevertheless Satan also gives his servants power to do miracles; and the key of discerning the spirits is to judge their consistency with, or rejection of living by every Word of God.
11:23 For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
First forgive others before you ask forgiveness of God
11:25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. 11:26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
Jesus is asked about his authority
11:27 And they come again to Jerusalem: and as he was walking in the temple, there come to him the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders, 11:28 And say unto him, By what authority doest thou these things? and who gave thee this authority to do these things? 11:29 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I will also ask of you one question, and answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.
11:30 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me.
11:31 And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him? 11:32 But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.
11:33 And they answered and said unto Jesus, We cannot tell. And Jesus answering saith unto them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
A parable of the history of physical Israel and how the wicked rebellious nation would not be subject to their Covenant and rejected obeying their LORD, to the point of killing the only son of God the Father; their own Covenant Husband!
Remember the context is right before the Passover of the crucifixion of Christ. The religious establishment understood that he was calling himself the Son of God and filled with desire to kill him.
We should remember that the history of physical Israel is recorded to TEACH us so that we may avoid the same mistakes; yet there are shepherds in the brotherhood today, who would not recognize Christ if he appeared to them, and would want to kill him because their doctrine is not his doctrine.
Mark 12:1 And he began to speak unto them by parables. A certain man planted a vineyard, and set an hedge about it, and digged a place for the winefat, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen and went into a far country.
12:2 And at the season he sent to the husbandmen a servant that he might receive from the husbandmen of the fruit of the vineyard. 12:3 And they caught him, and beat him, and sent him away empty.
12:4 And again he sent unto them another servant ; and at him they cast stones, and wounded him in the head, and sent him away shamefully handled. 12:5 And again he sent another; and him they killed, and many others; beating some, and killing some.
The Son of God the Father comes as the parable unfolds
12:6 Having yet therefore one son, his wellbeloved, he sent him also last unto them, saying, They will reverence my son.
12:7 But those husbandmen said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and the inheritance shall be our’s. 12:8 And they took him, and killed him, and cast him out of the vineyard.
Therefore the Mosaic Marriage Covenant was broken, between [because of the death of] the Husband, Jesus Christ, and physical Israel: And a New Covenant (Jer 31) will be made with a Spiritual Israel called out of all nations at the Marriage Feast! [Right now many have been called in espousal to TEST their fitness to become a part of the bride at the resurrection to spirit!].
Brethren, we have been called to be a part of the collective bride, but there is no guarantee! We are being TESTED in this life as to our fitness, and only a few will be chosen.
It is for this reason that physical Israel is called a widow today.
Speaking of life in the Kingdom; Christ says of Israel that he will yet marry [a repentant] Israel again in a NEW Marriage Covenant (Jer 31); and all nations will be grafted into a spiritual Israel!
Here it is clearly stated that the Redeemer is the Creator, who was the Husband of physical Israel under the Mosaic Covenant! and that Israel would become a widow at the death of her Husband, and that her Husband would be raised up to become ruler of all the earth with all nations being grafted into a spiritual Israel!
Isaiah 54:4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more. 54:5 For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of hosts is his name; and thy Redeemer the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall he be called.
Mark 12:9 What shall therefore the lord of the vineyard do? he will come and destroy the husbandmen, and will give the vineyard unto others.
12:10 And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner: 12:11 This was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
The religious leaders understood that Yeshua / Jesus was speaking of them and they were furious. This is also speaking of the leaders and elders of today’s spiritual Ekklesia who pay lip service to God but reject his commandments and teachings!
12:12 And they sought to lay hold on him, but feared the people: for they knew that he had spoken the parable against them: and they left him, and went their way.
The religious leaders then sent the doctors of the scriptures to entangle Christ and discredit him before the people
12:13 And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.
Again, remember that this was right before Passover. Jesus was NOT a respecter of any person but proclaimed the truth of God to ALL; including ALL the religious leaders of the church of God of his day and of today!
Here Jesus tells us to pay our taxes honestly
12:14 And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not? 12:15 Shall we give, or shall we not give? But he, knowing their hypocrisy, said unto them, Why tempt ye me? bring me a penny, that I may see it. 12:16 And they brought it. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? And they said unto him, Caesar’s. 12:17 And Jesus answering said unto them, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s, and to God the things that are God’s. And they marvelled at him.
A question of the resurrection
This is a trick question for the law of marriage exists only until the death of one of the spouses.
12:18 Then come unto him the Sadducees, which say there is no resurrection; and they asked him, saying, 12:19 Master, Moses wrote unto us, If a man’s brother die, and leave his wife behind him, and leave no children, that his brother should take his wife, and raise up seed unto his brother.
12:20 Now there were seven brethren: and the first took a wife, and dying left no seed. 12:21 And the second took her, and died, neither left he any seed: and the third likewise. 12:22 And the seven had her, and left no seed: last of all the woman died also. 12:23 In the resurrection therefore, when they shall rise, whose wife shall she be of them? for the seven had her to wife.
Jesus does not say to them the obvious fact that marriage ends with death, and therefore she would be the wife of NONE of them in a resurrection; instead he uses the question to reveal a great truth, that those in the resurrection to spirit will be sexless like the angels who neither marry nor reproduce!
Jesus here shows the foolishness of those misguided people who think that angels married human women before the flood.
12:24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? 12:25 For when they shall rise from the dead, they neither marry, nor are given in marriage; but are as the angels which are in heaven.
Christ then goes on to teach the Sadducees [priests] about the resurrection to spirit, saying that God is the God of the living and that the people of God shall truly live in a resurrection to spirit.
12:26 And as touching the dead, that they rise: have ye not read in the book of Moses, how in the bush God spake unto him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? [all of whom lived and died long before Moses] 12:27 He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living: ye therefore do greatly err.
12:28 And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first [greatest] commandment of all? 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord [owner, master] our God [Mighty Ones, used in reference to YHVH God] is one Lord [king, ruler, owner, master]: 12:30 And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.
Loving God enough to live by every Word of God comes FIRST, and loving humanity comes second
12:31 And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these.
12:32 And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God [Family of Mighty Ones]; and there is none other but he: 12:33 And to love him [the members of the Family [Elohim] called the Mighty Ones (YHVH the eternal ones)] with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.
12:34 And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.
Again, this is just before Passover when Christ would be taken and killed. Here Jesus says plainly that although he is the supposed son of David; he is in fact the son of God the Father in heaven, [by virtue of the fact that God reduced the Creator to a human embryo and placed him in the uterus of Mary].
12:35 And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the son of David? 12:36 For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD [the Sovereign Master] said to my [Sovereign Master] Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool.
12:37 David therefore himself calleth him [if David calls the Messiah HIS OWN Master; how is it that David’s Master is his own son?] Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly.
The Creator gave up his God-hood and was reduced to the tiniest human embryonic life to be inserted into the womb of Mary for a birth from a virgin as was prophesied. Jesus [Hebrew: Yeshua] was the son of David in the sense that it was a daughter of David who carried and gave birth very much like modern methods of implanting a fertilized egg into a woman to give her a child today.
Jesus Christ was the son of God the Father by being placed in the womb by God the Father, Yet Jesus was the Creator and Husband of Israel preexisting his human birth by countless ages!
Jesus condemns the practices of most elders today, who love to make a show of religiosity and love the adulation of the people and love to have advantage for themselves.
12:38 And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, 12:39 And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: 12:40 Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.
In connection with the lesson about those who do things for show and to impress others, Jesus points out the poor and humble as being acceptable by God.
12:41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 12:42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing.
12:43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: 12:44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
