John 8 to 11 covers the six month period between the last Feast of Tabernacles and the last Passover of Christ.
John 8:1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives [for the night]. 8:2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
The woman caught in the act of adultery, was brought to Christ to test him.
8:3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst, 8:4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act. 8:5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
They were tempting Christ for no individual had any authority to put anyone to death; that was the prerogative of the Sanhedrin [the seventy] court. This was a trick to catch Christ, for if he said “stone her” he would be usurping the court authority. He responded by teaching them a lesson in forgiveness of the repentant, for the woman would have been terrified for her life and begging for forgiveness.
8:6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
The woman facing a brutal imminent death would have been terrified; and Jesus used the opportunity to teach that all have sinned and that he had come to save repentant sinners.
The very purpose of Christ, was to give himself for the sins of the world in compassion and mercy for his creation.
Yes, Jesus Christ was love and mercy personified, and every effort will be made to save all humanity; but being love and mercy, he cannot allow some of the people to abuse others; which is what the law is for: to protect the innocent.
Here, Jesus is teaching that all have sinned and need to STOP sinning, and be covered by God’s mercy:
Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
John 8:7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8:8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground. 8:9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
The accusers were shamed and went away; then Jesus commanded the woman to: “Go, and sin no more.” This act was because he was not sent into the world to judge the world at that time; he was sent to save sinners.
There will come a time when all unrepentant sinners who fear men and not God, who believe and keep the false traditions of men and not the works of God, who idolize men and corporate churches instead of exalting God; shall be judged and if unrepentant shall be destroyed:
Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.
John 8:10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee? 8:11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.
Those who follow Christ and KEEP his teachings and commandments to live by every Word of God the Father, shine the light of Christ to the world. Those who have the Spirit of Christ dwelling in them, and who PRACTICE and LIVE as Christ lived; shall not be in the darkness of spiritual ignorance.
8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
8:13 The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.
Jesus proclaimed that his words about himself were true and from God the Father in heaven, saying that these men being carnal cannot understand the things of God.
The hidden mysteries of God are revealed to God’s faithful, that God can glorify his called out.
1 Corinthians 2:8 Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man [the mysteries of God are unknown to men and are revealed by God’s Spirit alone], the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 2:10 But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
The Spirit of God knows all the things of God, for it is the very mind and nature of God.
2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.
The knowledge of God is a gift of God through his spirit given to those who obey God.
Acts 5:32 And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.
Human beings have a spirit or mind that lifts us above the animals; and God has a greater spirit or mind than any man, which makes him far superior to the wisest man.
1 Corinthians 2:12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the [carnal men] world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to [to those who repent of sin and obey God; Acts 5:32] us of God.
2:13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
The sincerely repentant man is given the very nature of God through his repentance and willingness to partake of God’s nature; through the diligent seeking out of that nature; which is contained in, and defined by; the scriptures and law of God.
When we learn of God and keep his Word, we are internalizing his very nature by his Spirit; and when we obey him and do as he would do in any situation; we are internalizing the very mind, nature, deeds and Spirit of God!
2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Spiritual things are spiritually discerned. That is why it is so very WRONG to depend on the teachings of unconverted minds for Doctrine or Prophecy.
To do so is the foolishness of the blind man seeking out the blind for guidance.
Those who do not obey God: DO NOT have his Spirit. They CANNOT understand spiritual things and are blind. To Follow them is to follow the spiritually blind and to enter the VERY SAME SPIRITUAL DARKNESS THAT THEY ARE IN!
Those who learn and adopt the unscriptural teachings and prophecies of the unconverted; have gone far astray and are standing on their own false teachings; rejecting the truth of God.
They are rejecting the very nature and spirit of God that is defined by the scriptures, preferring the nature of the spiritually blind.
Because they reject the knowledge of God, and mix the falsehood of pagan error with the truth, creating a polluted false teaching; they shall all fall into the ditch and face severe correction.
2:15 But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, [The godly person questions and tests all things by the Word of God] yet he himself is [The godly person cannot be condemned by men, for he is faithful to his judge: Almighty God] judged of no man.
2:16 For who hath known the mind of the Lord, [What carnal mind understands the things of God; and what can the carnal person teach God?] that he may instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ.
The faithful commandment keepers have the Holy Spirit, the very nature of God; if we remain steadfast to obey him.
John 8:14 Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.
Christ was not sent to judge or to condemn, but to save; yet when he returns he will come with the sword to judge the nations; and will condemn sin and unrepentant sinners
8:15 Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man. 8:16 And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me [The Father and the Son judge based on their Word].
The Father in heaven and Jesus Christ are ONE in every attitude, thought and action. We must also achieve that UNITY WITH GOD! Never compromising and separating ourselves from God the Father, by as much as one speck of dust!
8:17 It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.
Referring to the witness of John, and the voice from heaven
8:18 I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.
To know Christ is to know God the Father! To be in UNITY with Christ is to be in UNITY with God the Father!
8:19 Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.
The enemy was restrained until the appointed time
8:20 These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.
Jesus said they cannot come, because he was speaking of his ascension to the Father in Heaven, across a gulf that no flesh can cross.
8:21 Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come. 8:22 Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.
Jesus testifies that those who do not believe and obey every Word of God; are not repentant and covered by the application of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God or filled with the Holy Spirit of God.
8:23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above [of the spirit of God]: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
If we do not believe God the Father and the Son, and will not keep the Word of God; we have nothing in God.
8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.
Jesus declares himself the Messiah the son of God
8:25 Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.
Jesus said that what he taught was from God the Father
8:26 I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him. 8:27 They understood not that he spake to them of [God] the Father.
Jesus is in such UNITY with God the Father that he does NOTHING; except it is according to the Father’s will.
8:28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up [crucified] the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
Brethren, God the Father and Jesus Christ will always be with us; IF we do those things that please them!
Doing those things that offend God the Father, also offend Christ the Son! and separate us from them! For God the Father and the Son are ONE in perfect UNITY with each other; and we are to join with them in that perfect UNITY!
Unity with other men by tolerating sin and doctrinal division, just for the sake of an organization IS SIN! which separates us from our UNITY with Christ and God the Father!
8:29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.
8:30 As he spake these words, many believed on him.
ONLY those who CONTINUE to DO as Christ taught – which is to live by every Word of God – are truly his disciples. The truth of God will free us from enslavement to Satan, and to the false teachers who have entered among us as was prophesied by Jesus and Jude.
8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.
We are the servants of those whom we serve; either as slaves of sin, or as the servants of God and the righteous wisdom of his Word. Those who willfully compromise with sin are not the disciples of Christ!
8:33 They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free? 8:34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.
Belief, repentance, baptismal washing and an enduring commitment to God the Father and Jesus Christ; frees people from the enslavement of Satan the Pharaoh of this world!
Oh yes, Satan will be angered to lose his slaves; and he will chase after and afflict us, trying to get us to turn back to his Egypt of slavery; but if we are steadfast in spite of all persecution and trials to the very end; Jesus Christ will raise us up out of the Red Sea of death on that day, and we shall rejoice for a millennial thousand year Sabbath of rest with our Lord; and for eternity beyond that.
8:35 And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever. 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Jesus teaches that he does the works of God and of Abraham, but these rebels do the works of their father, Satan the Pharaoh god-king of this world.
8:37 I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you. 8:38 I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.
Galatians 3:7 Know ye therefore that they which are of faith, the same are the children of Abraham.
Galatians 3:29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
John 8:39 They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham. 8:40 But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.
These folks then claim to be the children of God and claim that Jesus was born of fornication
8:41 Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.
Jesus says that if they were of God they would love the Son; for God the Father and the Son are in complete and total UNITY.
8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.
People who cannot understand and will not KEEP the words of God the Father are not of Christ, and those who will not keep the words of Christ, are NOT of God the Father in heaven. Their sins have separated them from the Son and from God the Father until they SINCERELY REPENT and commit to STOP sinning.
The carnal mind cannot understand things of the spirit! Therefore many worldly tares and false teachers have led the called out away from UNITY with GOD; into unity with men!
8:43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.
Those who disobey the teachings of Christ to live by every Word of God are of their father the devil! Consider very carefully who you are following; those who help you UNITE with God; or those who separates you from the heavenly Father and Jesus Christ.
8:44 Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Those who are tares and false disciples cannot understand spiritual things and therefore twist those teachings to justify their rebellion against God’s Word.
8:45 And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.
No man can truthfully say that Christ has sinned? Jesus obeyed God the Father in all things and worked to please him! We are to do likewise and are NEVER to allow any laxity or lukewarmness to cause us to willfully sin and become separated from God.
If we were of God we would be hearing his words and DOING his deeds. Therefore those among us who teach compromising and lukewarm laxity for the practical application of Christ’s teachings and commandments: Are NOT OF GOD!
Brethren, the Ekklesia today is full of briars, tares and false teachers; who are working for their father the devil, to lull you into a lukewarm complacency for living by every Word of God; so that you will sin out of carelessness and become separated from God.
8:46 Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? 8:47 He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
Then the religious leaders dishonoured Christ by saying that he had a devil.
8:48 Then answered the Jews [religious leaders], and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan [unconverted], and hast a devil? 8:49 Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.
8:50 And I seek not mine own glory: there is one [God the Father] that seeketh and judgeth.
Jesus speaking of the resurrection to spirit offers the gift of eternal life to his true enduring disciples.
8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.
Meaning that if they die they will be resurrected to eternal life in their time. This statement amazes these people who proclaim Christ as crazy.
8:52 Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. . . .
The people thought Christ was crazy for saying that if anyone DOES what he teaches and lives by every Word of God they shall receive eternal life.
This statement implies that the opposite is also true; those who do not KEEP his teachings and lives by every Word of God will NOT receive eternal life.
8:52 . . . Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death. 8:53 Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?
Jesus says that he has known, and knows God the Father
8:54 Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God: 8:55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.
The people were infuriated when Christ when he said that he had lived and known Abraham, during Abraham’s lifetime.
8:56 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad.
Jesus then proclaims himself the YHVH [the I Am] of the Mosaic Covenant
8:57 Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
The people fully understood that Jesus Christ proclaimed himself to be the God of the Mosaic Covenant, and the God of Abraham; and sought to stone him, and he slipped out among the crowds.
8:59 Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.
