Jeremiah 21 – 22

Jeremiah 21

After all the wickedness of ancient Judah, the armies of Babylon arrived to fight against them; only then does Judah finally go to inquire of God by Jeremiah in the hope that in spite of their rejections of the warnings to repent; that somehow God would overlook their sins and save them.

Jeremiah 21:1 The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when king Zedekiah sent unto him Pashur the son of Melchiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying, 21:2 Enquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us; if so be that the LORD will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.

Hear the word of the Lord you leaders and elders of today’s Spiritual Ekklesia who commit the same sins of idolatry as these ancients did; idolizing a man to exalt your false traditions above the Word of God: Who are full of emotional and spiritual adultery to worship the words of men and will not correct yourselves by the Word of God and who reject understanding from the Word of God:

21:3 Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus shall ye say to Zedekiah: 21:4 Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that are in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and against the Chaldeans, which besiege you without [outside your walls] the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city.  21:5 And I myself [Almighty God] will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath.

Just as in the days of Jeremiah Jesus Christ smote the people in Jerusalem and Judea by the sword of Babylon even though they did not have God’s Spirit because they were rebellious, and as God later smote Jerusalem by the hand of the Romans [Rome is a part of the statue of the complete Babylonian system Dan 2]; so God will correct Israel/Judea and today’s apostate Spiritual Ekklesia in this latter day.

Almighty God will smite the insincere who falsely claim to worship him as they depart from God’s Word; God will smite the unrepentant man worshipers of the church of God groups of this latter day in a great tribulation of 42 months.

21:6 And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence. 21:7 And afterward, saith the LORD, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy.

Physical Jerusalem which was destroyed by Babylon was a type of today’s Laodicean Spiritual Ekklesia of God, the dwelling place of the Holy Spirit.

God warned the people of that day that if they would leave Jerusalem they would live. And those who remained in Jerusalem will suffer great correction in the siege.

This is an allegory that the faithful to God will be called out of today’s apostate factions of today’s Spiritual Ekklesia; and those who remains in today’s apostate factions of the Laodicean Spiritual Ekklesia will suffer in great correction.

21:8 And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.

God warned the inhabitants of Jerusalem that the city would be besieged and taken, looted and burned by the army of Babylon; and God is warning today’s Spiritual Ekklesia that they will also be severely corrected in great tribulation in this latter day.

21:9 He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth out, and falleth to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey. 21:10 For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the LORD: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.

Jesus Christ declared that we must live by every Word of God regardless of what others do or the price which we must pay, in order to become a part of the faithful pillars of the Spiritual Ekklesia who have the birthright of ruling the earth with Christ.

21:11 And touching the house of the king of Judah, say, Hear ye the word of the LORD; 21:12 O house of David, thus saith the LORD; Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver him that is spoiled [everyone that is spiritually downtrodden] out of the hand of the oppressor [bad leaders and elders], lest my fury go out like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

ALL those who love idols of men more than they love their Mighty One, ALL those who follow the false traditions of idols of men and will not live by every Word of God, ALL those who break the commandments of God, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men: Shall feel the rod of the correction of Jesus Christ in this latter day.

21:13 Behold, I am against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, and rock of the plain, saith the LORD; which say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations? 21:14 But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the LORD: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it.

Jeremiah 22

God tells Jeremiah to teach the people sincere repentance so that those who do repent can escape God’s correction.

Jeremiah 22:1 Thus saith the LORD; Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak there this word, 22:2 And say, Hear the word of the LORD, O king of Judah, that sittest upon the throne of David, thou, and thy servants, and thy people that enter in by these gates:

If we are compassionate for others, not extorting as much wealth as we can from the brethren, nor bullying and abusing them; if we are zealous to rebuke all sin and learn and live by every Word of God; if we are striving to root out and overcome all sin and to become fully spiritually united with God the Father and Jesus Christ: then we shall have a place in the resurrection to eternal life as kings and priests of the Most High.

22:3 Thus saith the LORD; Execute ye judgment and righteousness, and deliver the spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor: and do no wrong, do no violence to the stranger, the fatherless, nor the widow, neither shed innocent blood in this place. 22:4 For if ye do this thing indeed, then shall there enter in by the gates of this house kings sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, he, and his servants, and his people. 22:5 But if ye will not hear these words, I swear by myself, saith the LORD, that this house shall become a desolation.

God will make physical Judah and Israel a desolation for all their wickedness; and God will do the same to correct those who have turned away from their baptismal espousal to Christ in today’s Spiritual Brotherhood.

22:6 For thus saith the LORD unto the king’s house of Judah; Thou art Gilead [Golan, Israel] unto me [Judah is like Israel which was removed from the land over 100 years previously] , and the head of Lebanon: yet surely I will make thee a wilderness, and cities which are not inhabited. 22:7 And I will prepare destroyers against thee, every one with his weapons: and they shall cut down thy choice cedars [leading men], and cast them into the fire.

When people ask why this has come upon physical and spiritual Israel they will be told that it was because of the great wickedness of the people who chose to follow their idols of men and corporate entities instead of their espoused Husband.

Today’s Spiritual Ekklesia is serving the false gods of men and corporations and false traditions, contrary to living by every Word of God; this is so obvious it is beyond dispute.

22:8 And many nations shall pass by this city, and they shall say every man to his neighbour, Wherefore hath the LORD done thus unto this great city? 22:9 Then they shall answer, Because they have forsaken the covenant of the LORD their God, and worshipped other gods, and served them.

The next lines are about king Shallum [Jehoahaz] being deposed and taken to Egypt.

22:10 Weep ye not for the dead, neither bemoan him: but weep sore for him that goeth away: for he shall return no more, nor see his native country. 22:11 For thus saith the LORD touching Shallum the son of Josiah king of Judah [Shallum King of Judah also known as Jehoahaz], which reigned instead of Josiah his father, which went forth out of this place; He shall not return thither any more: 22:12 But he shall die in the place [Egypt] whither they have led him captive, and shall see this land no more.

Shallum:  Although he was two years younger than his brother, Eliakim, Shallum was elected to succeed his father on the throne at the age of twenty-three by Nebuchadnezzar under the name Jehoahaz. He reigned for only three months before being deposed by the Egyptian Pharaoh Necho II and taken into Egyptian captivity.

After the failed siege of Harran, Necho left a sizable force behind, but returned himself to Egypt. On his return march, he found that Jehoahaz had succeed his father Josiah.  Necho deposed Jehoahaz and replaced him with his older brother Eliakim as king, changing Eliakim’s  name to Jehoiakim.  Jehoahaz had ruled for three months Tammuz (July) to Tishri (October) 609 BC. Necho then took brought Jehoahaz [Shallum] to Egypt as his prisoner, where Jehoahaz ended his days.

Jehoahaz [Shallum] was the first king of Judah to be overturned in the Overturn Prophecy of Ezekiel 21:27.

The “Overturn” prophecy was fulfilled as follows:

King Jehoahaz who allied with Babylon reigned for three months before his throne was overturned by Neco, king of Egypt, who dethroned him and replaced him with his brother, Eliakim. He was carried off to Egypt, where he died.

2  Then Eliakim allied to Egypt using the regal name Jehoiakim reigned for 11 years before being killed by Nebuchadnezzar in the first big siege of Jerusalem c 597 B.C.  His kingdom was overturned to Jehoiachin when he was killed during Nebuchadnezzar’s city.

On taking the city Nebuchadnezzar replaced Jehoichin with Zedekiah in 597 B.C. Jehoiachin had reigned for 3 months & 10 days until King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon took Jerusalem and brought king Jehoiachin [aka Jeconiah aka Coniah] to Babylon, where he lived and died.

3  Zedekiah was the last king of Judah because he later rebelled against Nebuchadnezzar.  Jerusalem was captured for the second time (587 B.C.) after a lengthy siege and after being looted the city and temple were burned in 586 B,C.  Zedekiah was blinded and taken into exile along with the remaining inhabitants of Jerusalem, and Judah was reduced to an agricultural province of the Babylonian Empire.

God goes on to rebuke wicked leaders and rulers by Jeremiah.  This is clearly an instruction for all those who would be kings, priests and rulers including the Spiritual Ekklesia.

Jeremiah 22:13 Woe unto him that buildeth his house by unrighteousness, and his chambers by wrong; that useth his neighbour’s service without wages, and giveth him not for his work; 22:14 That saith, I will build me a wide house and large chambers, and cutteth him out windows; and it is cieled with cedar, and painted with vermilion.

Those who abuse and take advantage of others will surely be strongly corrected, and though they reign in this life they shall not reign in the Kingdom of God.

22:15 Shalt thou reign, because thou closest thyself in cedar? did not thy father eat and drink, and do judgment and justice, and then it was well with him? 22:16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy; then it was well with him: was not this to know me? saith the LORD.

A great many in the ministry of today are full of covetousness; they extort from the brethren, they steal tithes and offerings from God to use for their own projects instead of for proclaiming the whole Word of God; and they steal from God to build edifices to their idols of men and to collect memorabilia of their idol.

In the spiritual sense, they shed innocent blood by deceiving people into idolizing themselves and others, leading people away from eternal life and faithfully living by every Word of God

If they do not repent from following idols of men and corporate organizations and of allowing the toleration of heresies, which is diversities of doctrine from the sound doctrine of the whole Word of God: Such organizations will be corrected in the great tribulation, and only the individuals who sincerely  repent and come out of them to live by every Word of God will be saved in the resurrection to eternal life.

22:17 But thine eyes and thine heart [of the wicked] are not but for thy covetousness, and for to shed innocent blood, and for oppression, and for violence, to do it.

If Jesus Christ judged these kings of Judah like this; he will also judge US and the leaders and elders in today’s Spiritual Ekklesia like this if we do the same thing.

22:18 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning Jehoiakim [Eliakim the eldest son of Josiah who replaced his brother Shallum] the son of Josiah king of Judah; They shall not lament for him, saying, Ah my brother! or, Ah sister! they shall not lament for him, saying, Ah lord! or, Ah his glory! 22:19 He shall be buried with the burial of an ass, drawn and cast forth beyond the gates of Jerusalem.

This is warning to us today to trust in God and not in our idols of men.

22:20 Go up to Lebanon, and cry; and lift up thy voice in Bashan [Golan, now largely in Syria], and cry from the passages: for all thy lovers [allies] are destroyed. 22:21 I spake unto thee in thy prosperity; but thou saidst, I will not hear. This hath been thy manner from thy youth, that thou obeyedst not my voice.

Because today’s Spiritual Ekklesia will not live by every Word of God, we will be corrected just like ancient Judah was.

22:22 The wind shall eat up all thy pastors, and thy lovers shall go into captivity: surely then shalt thou be ashamed and confounded for all thy wickedness.

After Babylon burned Jerusalem she later also came up against and took Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and the Arab  countries, and then went into Egypt.  This was a warning to the people of Judah at that time not to trust in the surrounding nations to save them from Nebuchadnezzar.

The agricultural people left in Judea by Nebuchadnezzar in 586 B.C. ignored the warnings and fled to Egypt where they were destroyed when Nebuchadnezzar also entered Egypt.

Psalm 83 reveals that the Lebanese, Syrians, Jordanians, Turks and the Arab nations will be allied with Babylon in our time and will fall to the Asian armies as they come down to Jerusalem.

22:23 O inhabitant of Lebanon, that makest thy nest in the cedars, how gracious shalt thou be when pangs come upon thee, the pain as of a woman in travail!

Jeconiah also known as Coniah and as Jehoiachin, was dethroned by the King of Babylon.

Here God says that the city states of Lebanon cannot save the king of Judah because the king of Judah is to be defeated and taken into captivity to Babylon.

Spiritually this refers to the fact that no man can save us when we depart from living by every Word of God, and we must turn to our Mighty One with all our hearts in true enthusiastic zeal to live by every Word of God to be saved.  ONLY a sound spiritual unity and relationship with God the Father and Jesus Christ can deliver a person.

Our Deliverer is Jesus Christ and he has given us instructions to follow in order to become fully spiritually united with God the Father and Jesus Christ!  ONLY through living by every Word of God (Mat 4:4) can we become like God the Father and Jesus Christ and become acceptable to them!

This rejection of any growth in knowledge in order to be faithful to the false traditions of our human idols separates us from Jesus Christ and from God the Father, and will bring strong correction upon us.

Men can be great HELPS to focus us on God and to help us become ever closer to God the Father and Christ; but when they begin to insist that they know all there is and insist on standing on false traditions contrary to the Word of God; then they become false teachers and are to be rejected.

22:24 As I live, saith the LORD, though Coniah [aka Jeconiah aka Jehoichin] the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet upon my right hand, yet would I pluck thee thence; 22:25 And I will give thee into the hand of them that seek thy life, and into the hand of them whose face thou fearest, even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans.

22:26 And I will cast thee out, and thy mother that bare thee, into another country, where ye were not born; and there shall ye die. 22:27 But to the land whereunto they desire to return, thither shall they not return. 22:28 Is this man Coniah a despised broken idol? is he a vessel wherein is no pleasure? wherefore are they cast out, he and his seed, and are cast into a land which they know not?

Speaking of the king of Judah, Coniah is an example for all leaders who do the same thing and leave the Word of God to follow idols.

Just as Coniah [aka Jeconiah aka Jehoichin] was removed from being king over Judah; so the idolatrous leaders and elders of today’s Spiritual Ekklesia will be removed, because they have led the brethren astray to follow idols of men and false traditions in place of living by every Word of God.

22:29 O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the LORD. 22:30 Thus saith the LORD, Write ye this man childless, a man that shall not prosper in his days: for no man of his seed shall prosper, sitting upon the throne of David, and ruling any more in Judah.
