The Master Potter analogy and the Greatness of God the Father and Jesus Christ
Jeremiah 18:1 The word which came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 18:2 Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words. 18:3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. 18:4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter: so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.
By virtue of having created all things, God the Father and Jesus Christ have absolute ownership and authority over physical and spiritual Israel, indeed over their entire creation; to do as they please in the creative process of molding us into the vessels they require us to be.
18:5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 18:6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
Here we are given a chance to save ourselves through sincere repentance and turning away from idolizing men and their false traditions; to turn to zealously learn and live by every Word of God.
18:7 At what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, and to pull down, and to destroy it; 18:8 If that nation, against whom I have pronounced, turn from their evil, I will repent of the evil that I thought to do unto them.
If anyone turns away from enthusiastic zeal to learn and perform the whole Word of God, they shall be rejected; and that includes the church of God Groups and individual sinners.
18:9 And at what instant I shall speak concerning a nation, and concerning a kingdom, to build and to plant it; 18:10 If it do evil in my sight, that it obey not my voice, then I will repent of the good, wherewith I said I would benefit them.
The godly zealous are commanded to give this warning to both physical and spiritual Israel. If we commit the same sins as ancient Judah we shall surely be strongly corrected like they were.
18:11 Now therefore go to, speak to the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I frame evil against you, and devise a device against you: return ye now every one from his evil way, and make your ways and your doings good [according to the whole Word of God].
As the folks in the days of Jeremiah refused to repent; so today’s physical and spiritual Israel reject the warnings and refuse to repent; choosing instead to cleave to their idols of men, organizations and the false traditions of men; continuing in sin against the Word of God.
18:12 And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.
Who has heard of anyone forsaking drinking the water essential for physical life, which is a type of the Holy Spirit and the Word of God essential for eternal life?
18:13 Therefore thus saith the LORD; Ask ye now among the heathen, who hath heard such things: the virgin of Israel hath done a very horrible thing. 18:14 Will a man leave the snow of Lebanon which cometh from the rock of the field? or shall the cold flowing waters that come from another place be forsaken?
Because today’s called out Spiritual Ekklesia will not repent and will not warn the nations to repent and live by every Word of God, instead seeking followers of themselves contrary to the Word of God; we shall be made desolate.
18:15 Because my people hath forgotten me, they have burned incense [offering prayers without living by every Word of God] to vanity, and they [leaders and elders] have caused them to stumble [taught people to follow them instead of teaching us to live by God’s Word] in their ways from the ancient paths, to walk in paths, in a way not cast up; 18:16 To make their land desolate, and a perpetual hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished, and wag his head. 18:17 I will scatter them as with an east wind before the enemy; I will shew them the back, and not the face, in the day of their calamity.
The people then conspired against Jeremiah, claiming that they were righteous and godly; just as the Spiritual Ekklesia of today resists and conspires against the true warning; telling the brethren not to listen to God’s warning and persecuting many who are zealous for the teachings [sound doctrine] and Word of God.
18:18 Then said they, Come and let us devise devices against Jeremiah; for the law shall not perish from the priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the word from the prophet. Come, and let us smite him with the tongue, and let us not give heed to any of his words.
Jeremiah does not back down or turn aside from obeying God to proclaim his warnings; he calls upon God to help him. He does not compromise when facing trials or persecution. No, he clings to God and every Word of God, to zealously and diligently do the will of God. We should follow that example and not compromise because we are having trials, but in trtials we should redouble our efforts to please our God.
18:19 Give heed to me, O LORD, and hearken to the voice of them that contend with me.
Because I warn of the impending storm should I suffer at your hands for my love for you?
18:20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember that I stood before thee to speak good for them, and to turn away thy wrath from them.
Because physical and spiritual Israel will not repent in this latter day; because spiritual Israel rejects the warnings to sincerely repent and seeks to prevent people from repentance; they shall be given over to great correction.
18:21 Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and pour out their blood by the force of the sword; and let their wives be bereaved of their children, and be widows; and let their men be put to death; let their young men be slain by the sword in battle. 18:22 Let a cry be heard from their houses, when thou shalt bring a troop suddenly upon them: for they have digged a pit to take me, and hid snares for my feet.
Jeremiah asks that the wicked who will not repent and then they persecute the righteous for their warnings be corrected.
Jesus Christ came in the flesh to reveal the spirit and intent of the law. Today I pray, not that anyone should be destroyed; but that the sin should be destroyed and that all would repent and be saved.
I know that only a very few will sincerely repent at this time; the main fruit of this work will be in the great tribulation when many will remember these warnings and sincerely repent of idolizing men and corporate churches and will turn to a diligent study of God’s Word and a true enthusiastic zeal for all the teachings and commandments of the whole Word of God.
I am not under any illusions, perhaps a few hundred will go to the place that God’s two servants instruct; the vast majority will not heed the warnings and turn to a true sincere zeal for every Word of God.
It is in the tribulation, when their fears have come upon them and their traditions have not saved them, and their organizations have collapsed; that they will be humbled and turn to their Mighty One in sincere repentance and Christ-like zeal to live by every Word of God.
18:23 Yet, LORD, thou knowest all their counsel against me to slay me: forgive not their iniquity, neither blot out their sin from thy sight, but let them be overthrown before thee [if they remain unrepentant]; deal thus with them in the time of thine anger.
All scripture was recorded for US today; ALL scripture is applicable to US today; either as instruction or as an example that if we do what others have done we will reap the same consequences.
1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come. 10:12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.
This lesson is for US as well as those people in the days of Jeremiah.
The sentence that is pronounced against Jerusalem was fulfilled when the city was destroyed by Babylon, and was only partly fulfilled by the Roman destruction of the city.
The fullness of this sentence against the city remains to be fulfilled during the coming 42 months of great tribulation.
This sentence is against Jerusalem and against both physical Israel and against today’s church of God factions of spiritual Israel, who have turned away from living by every Word of God to follow idols of men and corporate entities with their false traditions.
This sentence of Jesus Christ against the latter day Spiritual Ekklesia and the physical nations is so incredible; so extreme that it is blood chilling.
Oh that the brethren and leaders of today’s Ekklesia – today’s thoroughly Laodicean Ekklesia – which loves the false traditions of men more than they love God; would repent and cry out in deep sorrow for their evil ways. Oh that we would repent and turn to Christ-like zeal to live by every Word of God so that we might be spared.
Chapter 19 is clear and forthright in its horrors, and needs no further explanation; except to say that this evil is coming upon us for our worship of our idols of men and our lack of enthusiastic zeal to live by every Word of God.
Jeremiah 19:1 Thus saith the LORD, Go and get a potter’s earthen bottle, and take of the ancients of the people, and of the ancients of the priests; 19:2 And go forth unto the valley of the son of Hinnom, which is by the entry of the east gate, and proclaim there the words that I shall tell thee,
As strong correction came upon those who departed from a zeal to live by every Word of God in those ancient days; the same strong correction will come upon today’s physical and spiritual Israel for our departure from a dedicated Christ-like zeal to live by every Word of God.
19:3 And say, Hear ye the word of the LORD, O kings of Judah, and inhabitants of Jerusalem; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring evil upon this place, the which whosoever heareth, his ears shall tingle.
Judah and the Israelite nations and Jerusalem – both physical and spiritual – will be severely corrected and will fall in a great slaughter by God’s rod of correction, the New Europe.
19:4 Because they have forsaken me, and have estranged this place, and have burned incense in it unto other gods, whom neither they nor their fathers have known, nor the kings of Judah, and have filled this place with the blood of innocents; 19:5 They have built also the high places of Baal, to burn their sons with fire for burnt offerings unto Baal, which I commanded not, nor spake it, neither came it into my mind: 19:6 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that this place shall no more be called Tophet, nor The valley of the son of Hinnom, but The valley of slaughter.
19:7 And I will make void the counsel of Judah and Jerusalem in this place; and I will cause them to fall by the sword before their enemies, and by the hands of them that seek their lives: and their carcases will I give to be meat for the fowls of the heaven, and for the beasts of the earth. 19:8 And I will make this city desolate, and an hissing; every one that passeth thereby shall be astonished and hiss because of all the plagues thereof.
Just as there was a terrible famine in Jeremiah’s time and again in Jerusalem during the Roman siege, there will be a terrible famine for us today, as promised by God in Deuteronomy 28.
19:9 And I will cause them to eat the flesh of their sons and the flesh of their daughters, and they shall eat every one the flesh of his friend in the siege and straitness, wherewith their enemies, and they that seek their lives, shall straiten them.
19:10 Then shalt thou break the bottle in the sight of the men that go with thee, 19:11 And shalt say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Even so will I break this people and this city, as one breaketh a potter’s vessel, that cannot be made whole again: and they shall bury them in Tophet, till there be no place to bury.
19:12 Thus will I do unto this place, saith the LORD, and to the inhabitants thereof, and even make this city as Tophet: 19:13 And the houses of Jerusalem, and the houses of the kings of Judah, shall be defiled as the place of Tophet, because of all the houses upon whose roofs they have burned incense unto all the host of heaven, and have poured out drink offerings unto other gods.
19:14 Then came Jeremiah from Tophet, whither the LORD had sent him to prophesy; and he stood in the court of the LORD’s house; and said to all the people, 19:15 Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon this city and upon all her towns all the evil that I have pronounced against it, because they have hardened their necks, that they might not hear my words.
Jeremiah is attacked and persecuted for warning the people. Nothing has changed; today’s leaders do the same thing against the zealous for God.
Jeremiah 20:1 Now Pashur the son of Immer the priest, who was also chief governor in the house [Temple] of the LORD, heard that Jeremiah prophesied these things. 20:2 Then Pashur smote Jeremiah the prophet, and put him in the stocks that were in the high gate of Benjamin, which was by the house of the LORD.
Jeremiah prophecies against the governor of the Temple of God; which today is spiritually, the leaders of the called out Spiritual Ekklesia who reject the warnings and have the same unrepentant attitude as Pashur did.
20:3 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Pashur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then said Jeremiah unto him, The LORD hath not called thy name Pashur, but Magormissabib [terror on every side].
Jesus Christ will apply the Rod of Babylon [the New Europe] to the unrepentant brethren of today; who are apostate from him; loving men more than loving God, and living by the false traditions of men.
As the principle men of Judah were carried away to Babylon at that time, in this latter day many of the principle men of Judah will be deported from Palestine.
20:4 For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will make thee a terror to thyself, and to all thy friends: and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, and thine eyes shall behold it: and I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall carry them captive into Babylon, and shall slay them with the sword.
Jesus Christ corrected those who rebelled against God without having his Spirit at that time; how much more will he despoil those of the spiritual Ekklesia to whom he has given the Spirit of God, only to have them turn away from any zeal to live by every Word of God?
20:5 Moreover I will deliver all the strength of this city, and all the labours thereof, and all the precious things thereof, and all the treasures of the kings of Judah will I give into the hand of their enemies, which shall spoil them, and take them, and carry them to Babylon.
Pashur died in Babylon and today’s unrepentant leaders and elders of the called out Spiritual Ekklesia who have gone astray and led the brethren astray, will be afflicted in the next few years; together with all those that love them and follow them, idolizing these idols of men instead of being zealous to live by every Word of God.
Today we have become man worshipers, obeying men above the Word of God; loving men more than we love the Husband of our baptismal espousal.
We are emotional and spiritual adulterers against our espoused Husband; WE ARE IDOLATERS, who have exalted men, corporate entities and the false traditions of men above the Word of Almighty God.
20:6 And thou, Pashur, and all that dwell in thine house shall go into captivity: and thou shalt come to Babylon, and there thou shalt die, and shalt be buried there, thou, and all thy friends, to whom thou hast prophesied lies [Pashur would perish because he falsely said – just as the wicked elders of the called out Spiritual Ekklesia say today – that if the brethren remain loyal to idols of men, they shall not see the correction of the tribulation].
Jeremiah cries out that he is persecuted for warning the people and attacked for his zeal for the Word of God.
20:7 O LORD, thou hast deceived me, and I was deceived; thou art stronger than I, and hast prevailed: I am in derision daily, every one mocketh me. 20:8 For since I spake, I cried out, I cried violence and spoil; because the word of the LORD was made a reproach unto me, and a derision, daily.
Because of the strong resistance of the brethren of that time, Jeremiah got discouraged and decided to keep quiet; yet the Word of God was as a burning fire in his heart and in his mouth, he could not keep silent in zeal for the truth and for the Word of God.
Let me say here that it is the same with me; any who thought that I was a flash in the night and will soon be silent are wrong; I will not keep silent as long as I live.
20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
20:10 For I heard the defaming [attacks] of many, fear on every side. Report, say they, and we will report it. All my familiars [those who know me] watched for my halting, saying, Peradventure he will be enticed, and we shall prevail against him, and we shall take our revenge on him.
God will help all those who proclaim His Word until His work is completed.
20:11 But the LORD is with me as a mighty terrible one: therefore my persecutors shall stumble, and they shall not prevail: they shall be greatly ashamed; for they shall not prosper: their everlasting confusion shall never be forgotten.
The Eternal will take up the cause of his faithful servants.
20:12 But, O LORD of hosts, that triest the righteous, and seest the reins and the heart, let me see thy vengeance on them: for unto thee have I opened my cause.
The lovers of the Eternal and all God’s Word will rejoice greatly in God and in God’s deliverance.
20:13 Sing unto the LORD, praise ye the LORD: for he hath delivered the soul of the poor [poor in the spirit of rebellion, see our Beatitudes studies] from the hand of evildoers.
Jeremiah mourns the fact that he is persecuted and mocked on all sides for his zeal for the Mighty One of Jacob.
This mourning is not so much over his own suffering, his mourning is for the unrepentant people and what they will suffer for their wickedness. He desires, as I do; that the apostates and idolaters among the people called to godliness would sincerely repent and turn to the Husband of their baptismal espousal with a whole heart, to do God’s will and to learn and live by every Word of God.
20:14 Cursed be the day wherein I was born: let not the day wherein my mother bare me be blessed. 20:15 Cursed be the man who brought tidings to my father, saying, A man child is born unto thee; making him very glad. 20:16 And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide; 20:17 Because he slew me not from the womb; or that my mother might have been my grave, and her womb to be always great with me.
20:18 Wherefore came I forth out of the womb to see labour and sorrow, that my days should be consumed with shame?
