Jeremiah 16 – 17

Jeremiah 16

Jeremiah is told that he should not marry or have any children in Jerusalem because of the approaching siege by Babylon.

This is also good instruction for all those who find themselves in the tribulation. Remember it is the blind man followers who insist on exalting idols of men to obey men above the Word of God that will be in the tribulation and will be afflicted with strong correction from God the Father and Jesus Christ.

Jeremiah 16:1 The word of the LORD came also unto me, saying, 16:2 Thou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters in this place.

The suffering will be intense and if we love children there is no way we would want to bring them into such a situation.

16:3 For thus saith the LORD concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land; 16:4 They shall die of grievous deaths; they shall not be lamented; neither shall they be buried; but they shall be as dung upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.

Because today’s apostate Spiritual Ekklesia worships [follows and obeys] idols of men and loves men and institutions more than they love God, so that we follow the false traditions of men and reject any scripture not supporting such false traditions, that  Jesus Christ is rejecting them into great affliction of the flesh in the hope that they might repent and the spirit might be saved  (Rev 3:14-22).

Matthew 15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Jeremiah 16:5 For thus saith the LORD, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament nor bemoan them: for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith the LORD, even lovingkindness and mercies. 16:6 Both the great and the small shall die in this land: they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them: 16:7 Neither shall men tear themselves for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

The time is quickly coming when God’s two servants will call upon the godly to leave today’s unrepentant assemblies of the Spiritual Ekklesia.

16:8 Thou shalt not also go into the house of feasting, to sit with them to eat and to drink.

Here Jesus Christ commands us not to attend God’s Festivals [including the Sabbath] with these wicked men who come before God on the weekly Sabbath and annual Festivals while they continue to rebel and do what is right in their own eyes, teaching for doctrine the commandments of men.

Very very soon, Jesus Christ will cause all rejoicing on God’s Sabbaths and Festivals to cease, because of our rebellions against living by every Word of God.

16:9 For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place in your eyes, and in your days, the voice of mirth, and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, and the voice of the bride.

When today’s elders and leaders and brethren ask why Jesus Christ rejects them and claim that they are righteous and bear God’s name;  God answers:

16:10 And it shall come to pass, when thou shalt shew this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath the LORD pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against the LORD our God?

We will be cast into the furnace of correction because we have NOT been zealous for learning and doing the whole Word of God.

16:11 Then shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith the LORD, and have walked after other gods [This refers to today’s Spiritual Ekklesia following idols of men as much as it referred to following the ancient priests into idolatry.], and have served them, and have worshipped [obeyed men and not God] them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;

Just like ancient Judah, today’s church of God factions are truly full of idolatry, worshiping [obeying] men and not God; most calling the Sabbath holy and then openly polluting it and many other sins do they do.

16:12 And ye have done worse than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the imagination of his evil heart, that they may not hearken unto me: 16:13 Therefore will I cast you out of this land into a land that ye know not, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; where I will not shew you favour.

When he comes Jesus Christ will gather together God’s chosen who were zealously faithful to live by every Word of God, in a resurrection to eternal life.

After this coming tribulation which will humble the people and bring them to sincere repentance, Jesus Christ will come and will deliver all the repentant of physical and spiritual Israel/Judah, and all humanity will also be called and grafted into a spiritual Israel.

16:14 Therefore, behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that it shall no more be said, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt; 16:15 But, The LORD liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the lands whither he had driven them: and I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

16:16 Behold, I will send for many fishers, saith the LORD, and they shall fish them; and after will I send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the holes of the rocks.

The resurrected chosen will teach all nations to learn and live by every Word of God and they will lead the nations into obedience to God.

16:17 For mine eyes are upon all their ways: they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity hid from mine eyes.

First, physical and spiritual Israel will be corrected and humbled, and then the whole earth will be humbled and delivered from bondage to Satan, sin and death.

16:18 And first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double; because they have defiled my land, they have filled mine inheritance with the carcases of their detestable and abominable things.

Then the whole earth will repent at the coming of Christ.

16:19 O LORD, my strength, and my fortress, and my refuge in the day of affliction, the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit.

The great tribulation is to correct the apostate church of God factions which have turned away from the Husband of their baptismal espousal to follow idols of men, it will also correct physical Israel and finally it will correct and humble all nations and people, to prepare the way for the coming of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God.

16:20 Shall a man make gods unto himself, and they are no gods? 16:21 Therefore, behold, I will this once cause them to know, I will cause them to know mine hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is The LORD.

Jeremiah 17

The sins of ancient and modern Israel/Judah are engraved on their hearts which are to rebel against their God; and so it is with most of the latter day Spiritual Ekklesia who have been thoroughly indoctrinated to obey and idolize men instead of loving and living by every Word of God.

Jeremiah 17:1 The sin of Judah is written with a pen of iron, and with the point of a diamond: it is graven upon the table of their heart, and upon the horns of your altars; 17:2 Whilst their children remember their altars and their groves by the green trees upon the high hills.

God the Father and Jesus Christ love us so much that they are deeply jealous because of our spiritual adulteries and they are angered by our spiritual adultery to idolize men and love men and their teachings more than we love the Word of God and the Husband of our spiritual espousal.

17:3 O my mountain in the field, I will give thy substance and all thy treasures to the spoil, and thy high places for sin, throughout all thy borders.  17:4 And thou, even thyself, shalt discontinue from thine heritage [the birthright of our calling] that I gave thee; and I will cause thee to serve thine enemies in the land which thou knowest not: for ye have kindled a fire in mine anger, which shall burn for ever.

Why will we follow and obey men contrary to the Word and Will of God the Father and our espoused Husband Jesus Christ who we committed to follow fully at our baptism?  Why will we separate ourselves from our Mighty LORD to follow after idols of men and the false traditions of men?  Why will we follow men blindly away from any part of the whole Word of God?  Why do we not obey the Word of God and prove all things by every Word of God to learn and keep only what is true by God’s Word?

17:5 Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD. 17:6 For he [who trusts in men and not in the whole Word of God] shall be like the heath [dry sagebrush] in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.

The sincerely zealous to learn and live by every Word of God, will, by that learning and the doing, internalize the very nature of God the Father and Jesus Christ to become ONE with them in true spiritual unity. Such a person will be greatly blessed.

17:7 Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. 17:8 For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

Think carefully on the following:  Do today’s leaders in the Spiritual Ekklesia delight in zeal for the law and for every Word of God?

Even those who claim that they do; in reality, talk the talk, but they DO NOT walk the walk, instead they teach for commandments the traditions of men; and they love those who love and follow them but they persecute those who are truly zealous to live by every Word of God.

Luke 6:46 And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?

Blessed is the man who does not walk [live] by the counsel of those who belittle sound doctrine and condemn zeal for any part of the whole Word of God!  Blessed is the person who does not follow those who compromise with the Word of God.  Blessed is the one who does not persecute and heap scorn on those who are zealous to live by every Word of God.

Psalm 1:1   Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

Blessed is the person who takes delight in the whole Word of God and thinks deeply on every Word of God, day and night continually.

1:2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

Those who study to learn and keep the whole Word of God, making it their delight and pondering on it continually, are drinking up the righteousness of God like a tree drinks up water; and as the well watered tree bears much fruit, so the zealous to live by every Word of God will bear much spiritual fruit.

1:3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Those who neglect the Word of God to do as they think is right and to follow the ways and false teachings of fallible men and false doctrine; are like the chaff of the threshing floor; fit only to be rejected, removed and burned.

1:4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away 1:5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous 1:6 For the Lord knoweth [keeps, secures]  the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

The ways of men are contrary to the ways of God.  Those who are devoted to worldliness are focused on worldliness.  Those who love God are focused on every Word of God.

Romans 8:5    For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

To be worldly minded and to focus on worldliness and not on the spiritual things of God is the way to death.  To be focused on learning and keeping the whole Word of God, is to grow into complete spiritual unity with God and is life eternal

8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.

Worldliness is contrariness to the whole Word of God and cannot be reconciled to God, it is rebellion against the ways of God.  This is Satan’s world at this time, and to be worldly is to be like Satan and to resist the Word of God.

The carnally minded worldly, do as they think right instead of what God says is right

8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Those that are focused on physical pursuits and on doing as they think right, instead of seeking complete spiritual unity with God the Father and Jesus Christ; cannot please God!

8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Jeremiah 17:9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? 17:10 I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.

17:11 As the partridge sitteth on eggs, and hatcheth them not; so he that getteth riches, and not by right, shall leave them in the midst of his days, and at his end shall be a fool.

The partridge often abandons her eggs after a time; the religious man who over time abandons living by every Word of God will lose the blessing for godly righteousness and inherit strong correction and if remaining unrepentant will see ultimate destruction.

The leader who builds a great organization by demanding the excessive sacrifice of others through spiritual extortion may have a few physical riches for a short time; but he has no spiritual riches stored up in heaven.  He has had his day and it is quickly over.

17:12 A glorious high throne from the beginning is the place of our sanctuary.

Those who put their trust in God the Father and Jesus Christ, to learn and live by every Word of God, will obtain the good reward of eternal life with health and prosperity.

Those who follow men and false traditions away from the Word of God the Father and Jesus Christ the Husband of our baptismal espousal, shall be brought to shame; and if they will not repent of idolizing men they will lose out on the first general resurrection to spirit.

17:13 O LORD, the hope of Israel, all that forsake thee shall be ashamed, and they that depart from me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the LORD, the fountain of living waters.

The sincerely repentant and the zealous for godliness cry out to the Eternal for spiritual healing and mercy.

17:14 Heal me, O LORD, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.

When the people are humbled they will ask to be taught the Word of the Lord.

17:15 Behold, they say unto me, Where is the word of the LORD? let it come now.

Jeremiah said that he was not seeking to be a prophet of God, nor has he desired the strong correction that is coming; yet he was faithful to say the things that God required him to say.

17:16 As for me, I have not hastened from being a pastor [herdsman, shepherd] to follow thee: neither have I desired the woeful day; thou knowest: that which came out of my lips was right before thee.

Jeremiah pleads that he was faithful to do as he was told, and asks the God who later gave up his God-hood to become flesh as Jesus Christ to care for him.  Jeremiah put his trust in God and not in false traditions and idols of men.   Therefore he was persecuted by the church of God of his day.

17:17 Be not a terror unto me: thou art my hope in the day of evil. 17:18 Let them be confounded that persecute me, but let not me be confounded: let them be dismayed, but let not me be dismayed: bring upon them the day of evil, and destroy them with double destruction.

Jeremiah is commanded by Jesus Christ to speak out concerning God’s holy Sabbaths.

17:19 Thus said the LORD unto me; Go and stand in the gate of the children of the people, whereby the kings of Judah come in, and by the which they go out, and in all the gates of Jerusalem;

Physical Israel and the Spiritual Ekklesia are commanded to do no work on the Sabbath day; and that includes paying others to serve us.

17:20 And say unto them, Hear ye the word of the LORD, ye kings of Judah, and all Judah, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, that enter in by these gates: 17:21 Thus saith the LORD; Take heed to yourselves, and bear no burden [do no work of any kind] on the sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem; 17:22 Neither carry forth a burden out of your houses on the sabbath day, neither do ye any work, but hallow ye the sabbath day, as I commanded your fathers. 17:23 But they obeyed not, neither inclined their ear, but made their neck stiff, that they might not hear, nor receive instruction.

Exodus 20:8   Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. 20:9 Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 20:10 But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that [We are not to be responsible for anyone else working.] is within thy gates: 20:11 For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.

On God’s weekly Sabbaths and annual High Days we are not do any work of any kind and we are not to cause others to do any work of any kind, either by commanding them to work or by paying them to work; and that includes the stranger [the unconverted] who might be working anyway.

Just because a person is willing to work anyway does not justify us supporting their sin by paying them to to do so;  This is no different than paying a thief to steal because they are going to steal anyway.

The seventh day is holy as a memorial of Creation and the absolute sovereignty of God and is prophetic of a millennial rest to come.

If we obey Jesus Christ and do no work on the weekly or annual Sabbaths, nor pay others to work for us, we will be spiritually blessed.

The only work that is permitted on God’s Sabbath’s are those things specifically commanded by God for the Sabbath and acts of mercy.

If we would be zealous for the Sabbath instead of calling it holy and then polluting it with cooking and paying others to serve us; if we would speak of godly things instead of speaking only about physical things which we have six days to speak of;  we would learn much and would be greatly blessed.

Jeremiah 17:24 And it shall come to pass, if ye diligently hearken unto me, saith the LORD, to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the sabbath day, but hallow the sabbath day, to do no work therein;

Messiah the Christ will come and build the Ezekiel Temple and Jesus Christ will also rebuild the city when he comes; and much later God the Father will bring a New Jerusalem when he comes to the earth, then this New Jerusalem will be the capital of the entire universe forever!

17:25 Then shall there enter into the gates of this city kings and princes sitting upon the throne of David, riding in chariots and on horses, they, and their princes, the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem: and this city shall remain for ever.

17:26 And they shall come from the cities of Judah, and from the places about Jerusalem, and from the land of Benjamin, and from the plain, and from the mountains, and from the south, bringing burnt offerings, and sacrifices, and meat offerings, and incense, and bringing sacrifices of praise, unto the house of the LORD.

Just as Christ destroyed Jerusalem [by the sword of Nebuchadnezzar] for the Sabbath breaking of Judah; he will severely correct today’s physical Judah/Israel and the called out Spiritual Ekklesia factions for their Sabbath breaking.

Jesus Christ is even angrier at today’s Spiritual Ekklesia because we are quenching God’s Holy Spirit when we call the Sabbath holy and proceed to pollute it, being without excuse for polluting God’s Holy Time.

If we say that some man or organization says our unscriptural Sabbath activities are alright:  We are idolizing that man or organization and following them instead of being faithful to the Word of God.  This compounds the sin of Sabbath breaking by adding idolatry to the list.

17:27 But if ye will not hearken unto me to hallow the sabbath day, and not to bear a burden, even entering in at the gates of Jerusalem on the sabbath day; then will I kindle a fire in the gates thereof, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem, and it shall not be quenched.

This was fulfilled by Babylon under Nebuchadnezzar and by the Romans under Prince Titus: And in our time Israel, Judah and Jerusalem along with today’s Spiritual Ekklesia will be severely corrected one final time for our wickedness.

  1. Sabbath Greetings James, One of the most widespread sins within the COG’s today is dishonoring our Creator’s Sabbaths by doing business on them. Many go out to restaurants & hire someone to do what we should have done the day before. Preparing for a Sabbath is a physical/spiritual teaching tool to show that preparation is necessary for the coming Millennium Kingdom & beyond.

Disrespecting God’s Sabbath [including High Days] is showing disrespect for God.

God’s Sabbaths have been set aside for us to learn about God and for us learn to become godly. Putting our own pleasures above respect for God, especially on God’s Sabbaths, is rejecting God for our own pleasures; for which sin of a lack of zeal for God, we shall be rejected by God (Rev 3:15-22).
