The great famine
Jeremiah 14:1 The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah concerning the dearth [the famine].
14:2 Judah mourneth, and the gates thereof languish; they are black unto the ground; and the cry [wailing] of Jerusalem is gone up.
During the siege of ancient Jerusalem there was a great lack of water and food which was recorded as a warning for us in this latter day. Those things that happened to Judah in Jeremiah’s day were but small fore-types of what is imminently coming in our time.
In this latter day because the Spiritual Ekklesia and Israel/Judah lack sincere repentance and will not live by every Word of God, God will take away our rain and our physical water in the tribulation, and there will also be a dearth of the Holy Spirit and the knowledge of godliness in our people.
Matthew 5:6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.
Because we did not hunger and thirst after the knowledge of the Word of God; we will be sent physical and spiritual drought and famine.
Matthew 6:35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
Because we have turned away from the Bread of Life; which is the internalizing of the nature of Jesus Christ and God the Father and coming into a full spiritual unity WITH THEM; through a diligent learning and an enthusiastic keeping of the whole Word of God: Both the Holy Spirit and our physical bread will be taken from us.
Because we do what is right in our own eyes and we do not live by every Word of God; we have quenched the waters of the Holy Spirit. Therefore our physical and spiritual waters will be dried up.
For more than three years during the siege of Jerusalem by Nebuchadnezzar both food and water was exhausted.
Jeremiah 14:3 And their nobles have sent their little ones to the waters: they came to the pits [wells, cisterns], and found no water; they returned with their vessels empty; they were ashamed and confounded, and covered their heads.14:4 Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads. 14:5 Yea, the hind [cattle] also calved in the field, and forsook it, because there was no grass. 14:6 And the wild asses did stand in the high places, they snuffed up the wind like dragons [jackals]; their eyes did fail, because there was no grass.
May all people sincerely repent and turn to the Awesome Creator and live by every Word of God.
14:7 O LORD, though our iniquities testify against us, do thou it for thy name’s sake: for our backslidings are many; we have sinned against thee. 14:8 O the hope of Israel, the saviour thereof in time of trouble, why shouldest thou be as a stranger in the land, and as a wayfaring man that turneth aside to tarry for a night? 14:9 Why shouldest thou be as a man astonied, as a mighty man that cannot save? yet thou, O LORD, art in the midst of us, and we are called by thy name; leave us not.
Brethren, God the Father and Jesus Christ have been patient in bearing our iniquities; they will be patient no more but will remember our turnings away from them to follow our idols of men and false traditions. The time of our correction is now at hand.
14:10 Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; he will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.
God the Father will no longer hear the prayers of those who continue in their sins and repent insincerely only to go right out and continue to do the same sins again; yet he will hear the prayers of those who repent sincerely and are truly zealous to STOP sinning and to learn and live by every Word of God.
14:11 Then said the LORD unto me, Pray not for this people for their good. 14:12 When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.
Those who say that we are God’s people and as long as we obey some man and remain in some corporate group supporting them without question [even when they are contrary to the Word of God] we will be saved and escape the tribulation: LIE!
It is loyalty to God and living by every Word of God that is important; loyalty to men contrary to the Word of God is a trap and a snare of Satan to lead us astray.
14:13 Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, the prophets say unto them, Ye shall not see the sword, neither shall ye have famine; but I will give you assured peace in this place.
14:14 Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.
Those who speak contrary to the Word of God, and say that the brethren who blindly follow men will see no tribulation or correction for they are righteous and in need of nothing spiritual (Rev 3:16-20); are ignorant of the real state of their relationship with God. They are spiritually blind and spiritually wretched and naked of godly righteousness; for their righteousness is in their own minds and is NOT a godly righteousness.
14:15 Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the prophets that prophesy in my name, and I sent them not, yet they say, Sword and famine shall not be in this land; By sword and famine shall those prophets be consumed.
Just as ancient Judah was corrected, today’s brethren who follow deceitful men and their false traditions, will also be corrected severely.
14:16 And the people to whom they prophesy shall be cast out in the streets of Jerusalem because of the famine and the sword; and they shall have none to bury them, them, their wives, nor their sons, nor their daughters: for I will pour their wickedness upon them.
This is the correction that will come upon physical Israel and upon apostate Spiritual Ekklesia, in this latter day.
14:17 Therefore thou shalt say this word unto them; Let mine eyes run down with tears night and day, and let them not cease: for the virgin daughter of my people is broken with a great breach, with a very grievous blow. 14:18 If I go forth into the field, then behold the slain with the sword! and if I enter into the city, then behold them that are sick with famine! yea, both the prophet and the priest go about into a land that they know not.
Then in today’s severe tribulation, physical and spiritual Israel will sincerely repent and they will turn from worshiping [obeying] idols of men, to learning and living by every Word of God.
14:19 Hast thou utterly rejected Judah? hath thy soul lothed Zion? why hast thou smitten us, and there is no healing for us? we looked for peace, and there is no good; and for the time of healing, and behold trouble! 14:20 We acknowledge, O LORD, our wickedness, and the iniquity of our fathers: for we have sinned against thee. 14:21 Do not abhor us, for thy name’s sake, do not disgrace the throne of thy glory: remember, break not thy covenant with us.
Then we shall acknowledge that God the Father and Jesus Christ and the whole Word of God are far above the false traditions of men; and we will reject our idols of men and corporations to zealously and enthusiastically learn and live by every Word of God; regardless of what men may teach contrary to God’s Word.
Only God can give us physical rain. and only God can rain his Holy Spirit down upon us.
14:22 Are there any among the vanities [false gods, idols] of the Gentiles that can cause rain? or can the heavens give showers? art not thou he, O LORD our God? therefore we will wait upon thee: for thou hast made all these things.
If physical Israel is to go forth to great correction, how much more will today’s wayward Spiritual Ekklesia be corrected?
When the fall way from their baptismal commitment to live by every Word of God today’s Spiritual Israel, who are supposed to have God’s law written on their very hearts (Jer 31) and are supposed to have God’s Spirit and are supposed to know better, shall be cast into great correction indeed.
Luke 12:47 And that servant, which knew his lord’s will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. 12:48 But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
Jesus Christ is about to vomit today’s unrepentant apostate Spiritual Israel out of his body [God’s Spiritual Ekklesia] and into great correction (Rev 3:14-22).
Jeremiah 15:1 Then said the LORD unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind could not be toward this people: [and I would] cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth.
Today’s physical and spiritual Israel and Judah are full of the same sins as the ancients, and are to be given over to the great correction of the tribulation to humble us and crush our massive pride into contrition and sincere repentance.
15:2 And it shall come to pass, if they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the LORD; Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for the captivity, to the captivity. 15:3 And I will appoint over them four kinds, saith the LORD: the sword to slay, and the dogs to tear, and the fowls of the heaven, and the beasts of the earth, to devour and destroy.
This correction of great tribulation is coming upon physical Judah/Israel and upon the apostate latter day Spiritual Ekklesia because of our many sins.
15:4 And I will cause them to be removed into all kingdoms of the earth, because of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah king of Judah, for that which he did in Jerusalem.
Just as ancient Israel and later Judah forsook God; today’s spiritually called out have forsaken the Husband of our espousal; exalting false traditions and the worship [obedience to] of idols of men; loving the teachings of men more than we love our espoused Husband and the Word of God.
15:5 For who shall have pity upon thee, O Jerusalem? or who shall bemoan thee? or who shall go aside to ask how thou doest? 15:6 Thou hast forsaken me, saith the LORD, thou art gone backward: therefore will I stretch out my hand against thee, and destroy thee; I am weary with repenting.
Messiah the Christ will separate the unrepentant from the zealous to live by every Word of God; fanning away the chaff to rejection, and saving the wholesome grain of those zealous for the whole Word of God.
15:7 And I will fan them with a fan in the gates of the land; I will bereave them of children, I will destroy my people since they return not from their ways.
During the ancient siege of Jerusalem by Babylon many men died, and many will also die in our latter day correction. In this latter day, severe correction will come suddenly at a time when we think that a period of peace has come (1 Thess 5:3).
15:8 Their widows are increased [because of the death of many men] to me above the sand of the seas: I have brought upon them against the mother of the young men a spoiler at noonday: I have caused him to fall upon it suddenly, and terrors upon the city.
15:9 She that hath borne seven languisheth [because her sons have died]: she hath given up the ghost; her sun is gone down [she has lost her husband and her sons, and there will be few men left] while it was yet day: she hath been ashamed and confounded: and the residue of them will I deliver to the sword before their enemies, saith the LORD. 15:10 Woe is me, my mother, that thou hast borne me a man of strife and a man of contention to the whole earth! I have neither lent on usury, nor men have lent to me on usury; yet every one of them doth curse me.
God gave Jeremiah a promise that a remnant of Judah would be spared and return to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple at the decree of Cyrus (Isaiah 44-45).
15:11 The LORD said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant; verily I will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.
However Judah would first be corrected by Babylon the sword of God.
15:12 Shall iron [Is Judah strong enough to defeat Babylon when God is against her?] break the northern iron and the steel [Babylon]? 15:13 Thy substance and thy treasures will I give to the spoil without price, and that for all thy sins, even in all thy borders. 15:14 And I will make thee to pass with thine enemies into a land which thou knowest not: for a fire is kindled in mine anger, which shall burn upon you.
When ancient Judah fell she was looted for months before the remainder of the city was burned and its inhabitants carried off to Babylon. In our time much that we have will be given to others because of our great sins.
Just as ancient Judah was removed from Jerusalem to Babylon, today many will be taken to far lands. When Judea is occupied by the New Europe and her allies, the Palestinian’s will cry “take them off our land” and many will be removed.
Then Jeremiah prayed that God would remember and deliver him because he had been persecuted for his zeal for God and for warning the people: Let us pray that God delivers his faithful who live by every Word of God from his terrible correction of the wicked in the latter day.
15:15 O LORD, thou knowest: remember me, and visit me, and revenge me of my persecutors; take me not away in thy longsuffering: know that for thy sake I [Jeremiah was persecuted for warning the nation] have suffered rebuke.
Then Jeremiah said that he has been faithful to every Word of God: Let us also turn to live by every Word of God with a whole heart.
15:16 Thy words were found, and I did eat [internalize the whole Word of God] them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O LORD God of hosts.
Those who are zealous to live by every Word of God and heed the warnings, will be delivered from this correction.
15:17 I sat not in the assembly of the mockers, nor rejoiced; I sat alone because of thy hand: for thou hast filled me with indignation. 15:18 Why is my pain [sorrows] perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail?
Those zealous for the whole Word of God are to be properly filled with indignation at the false traditions and idolatry of today’s Spiritual Ekklesia, and very many are forced to stand alone upon the Word of God.
In Babylon the sincerely repentant will cry out to God for deliverance
15:19 Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before me: and if thou take forth [separate] the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as my mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.
When we sincerely repent and learn to make a difference between the holy and the profane; to reject profane false doctrines in favor of the sound doctrine of the whole Word of God; our LORD will come and deliver us.
15:20 And I will make thee unto this people a fenced brasen wall: and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee to save thee and to deliver thee, saith the LORD. 15:21 And I will deliver thee out of the hand of the wicked, and I will redeem thee out of the hand of the terrible.
At the decree of Cyrus the repentant were released to return to rebuild the temple and later Ahasuerus decreed that Ezra would return to establish a government and that Nehemiah should go to build the city walls. See our studies on the marvelous fulfillment of the promises of God and the rebuilding of the temple and city.
Just as the promises of God were kept in ancient times, in our own time Jesus Christ will come and deliver the sincerely repentant who are zealous for godliness in a resurrection from death itself!
Then he will gather all Israel and Judah back to Palestine and build the Ezekiel Temple and rebuild the city of Jerusalem to be the capital of the King of kings of all the earth!
