Isaiah 42 – 44

Isaiah 42

A prophecy of Jesus Christ [Hebrew: Yeshua Mashiach] and his physical life.

42:1 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. 42:2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. 42:3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. 42:4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

42:5 Thus saith God the LORD [YHVH], he that created the heavens, and stretched them out; he that spread forth the earth, and that which cometh out of it; he that giveth breath unto the people upon it, and spirit to them that walk therein:

The Messiah would establish a New Covenant (Jer 31:31) with the people.

42:6 I the LORD have called thee in righteousness, and will hold thine hand, and will keep thee, and give thee for a covenant of the people, for a light of the Gentiles; 42:7 To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house.

Jesus lived a  godly righteous life, living by every Word of God as an example that we should follow him in doing likewise.  He proclaimed the way or Gospel of Salvation and he opened the eyes of the blind as an example that he will open the eyes of the spiritually blind, and he gave his life for us that we could be delivered from bondage to sin and the prison of the grave.

42:8 I am the LORD [YHVH]: that is my name [YHVH is a collective name for the family of Elohim meaning: The Eternal Self Existing Mighty Ones (Family) of God.]: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.

Jesus Christ [Yeshua] is a jealous God who will not tolerate his people committing spiritual adultery with any other god or idol.

42:9 Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

The One who gave up his God-hood to become flesh as Jesus Christ; proclaims what will be before it comes, so that we can all know his wisdom, power and glory, and that we will therefore be humbled before God and acknowledge his sovereignty.

The Coming of Messiah the Christ in the Latter Day

After Christ comes and the armies of the wicked are destroyed, all humanity will repent and a new era will begin with the nations worshiping and singing of the glory of God the Father and the King of kings.

42:10 Sing unto the LORD a new song, and his praise from the end of the earth, ye that go down to the sea, and all that is therein; the isles, and the inhabitants thereof. 42:11 Let the wilderness and the cities thereof lift up their voice, the villages that Kedar doth inhabit: let the inhabitants of the rock sing, let them shout from the top of the mountains.

A new world of righteousness will begin!  With Messiah as King of all kings and God the Father exalted by all that has breath!

42:12 Let them give glory unto the LORD, and declare his praise in the islands [the term islands is often a metaphor for all countries outside of Israel/Judea].

All nations and peoples will glorify and live by every Word of God.

42:13 The LORD shall go forth as a mighty man, he shall stir up jealousy like a man of war: he shall cry, yea, roar; he shall prevail against his enemies.

When he comes to put down Satan and all false teachings [false doctrines] and wickedness; the glorified Jesus Christ will roar like a mighty lion roars over his prey and the nations will shake in fear because of their iniquities.

42:14 I have long time holden my peace; I have been still, and refrained myself: now will I cry like a travailing woman; I will destroy and devour at once.

When Christ comes after his long patience with sinful rebellious humanity he will thunder his presence in mighty power.

42:15 I will make waste mountains and hills, and dry up all their herbs; and I will make the rivers islands, and I will dry up the pools.

In the tribulation great drought will dry up much of the earth.

When he has mankind’s attention, Messiah will come and he will teach sincere repentance and the righteousness of the Word of God, delivering humanity from their slavery to Satan the Pharaoh god of this world.

42:16 And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known [When he returns Messiah the Christ will lead all humanity into the paths of the righteousness of every Word of God.]: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight [make understanding clear]. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them.

Then the spiritually blind will see, and the darkness of spiritual ignorance will be dispelled by the light of truth.

42:17 They shall be turned back, they shall be greatly ashamed, that trust in graven images, that say to the molten images, Ye are our gods.

Humanity will repent in mass and turn away from their false gods and false teachings to the sound doctrine of Jesus Christ; which is to live by every Word of God the Father.

42:18 Hear, ye deaf; and look, ye blind, that ye may see.

God’s Spirit will be poured out on all flesh and all eyes and ears will be opened to see, hear and understand the doctrines of righteousness; the whole Word of God (Joel 2:28).

42:19 Who is blind, but my servant? or deaf, as my messenger that I sent? who is blind as he that is perfect, and blind as the LORD’s servant? 42:20 Seeing many things, but thou observest not; opening the ears, but he heareth not.

In the flesh Messiah refused to condemn, instead warning people to repent; because his mission at that time was to save and not to destroy.

Jeremiah 31:31 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: 31:32 Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the Lord:

31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

31:34 And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, Know the Lord: for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord: for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.

31:35 Thus saith the Lord, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The Lord of hosts is his name:

The teachings and commandments of God the Father and Jesus Christ are eternal, they will be binding forever!

31:36 If those ordinances depart from before me, saith the Lord, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

Jesus Christ magnified the law of God by adding its spirit and intent to the letter.

Isaiah 42:21 The LORD [YHVH] is well pleased for his righteousness’ sake; he will magnify the law, and make it honourable [HOLY and Spiritual].

When Christ came in the flesh he magnified the law explaining its intent and spirit as well as the letter making the law complete and doubly binding; engraving it on the hearts and in the minds of the faithful New Covenant called out. When he comes again he will extend that New Covenant to all Israel and to all flesh as all humanity repents and is grafted into Israel (Joel 2:28).

42:22 But this is a people robbed and spoiled; they are all of them snared in holes, and they are hid in prison houses: they are for a prey, and none delivereth; for a spoil, and none saith, Restore.

Judah and Israel went into captivity for their sins in the past and they will soon go through another and even worse tribulation for their rebellion against the doctrines and commandments of God the Father.

42:23 Who among you will give ear to this? who will hearken and hear for the time to come? 42:24 Who gave Jacob for a spoil, and Israel to the robbers? did not the LORD [YHVH], he against whom we have sinned? for they would not walk in his ways, neither were they obedient unto his law.

Who will take note of this and learn that the Eternal corrects the wayward and rebellious? Who will repent and turn to Christ-like zeal to live by every Word of God, BEFORE we need to be corrected in great tribulation?

42:25 Therefore he hath poured upon him [Israel and the wicked] the fury of his anger, and the strength of battle: and it hath set him on fire round about, yet he knew not; and it burned him, yet he laid it not to heart.

Let us take to heart the lessons of past history and trust in our God, turning to him in zealous faithful loyal obedience. Jesus Christ has poured out his fury on the wicked in the past and he will severely correct the wicked in the very near future.

Isaiah 43

In this section Isaiah refutes the Unitarian [One God] heresy; declaring the God of Moses [YHVH] to be the Creator, who gave up his God-hood to become flesh as Jesus Christ; the Redeemer of the sincerely repentant.

These chapters are also an indictment of physical and spiritual Judah and Israel for their sins and they announce deliverance for the sincerely repentant.

Physical Israel was a type of the Spiritual Ekklesia [Spiritual Israel] who are redeemed by the sacrifice of the Lamb of God; just as physical Israel was protected from death in Egypt by the Passover lambs.

Isaiah 43:1 But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee [paid our debt by dying in our place for our sins], I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.

When we are scattered abroad among the peoples of the earth, God will be with us if we call upon him in sincere repentance.

43:2 When thou passest through the waters [the peoples of the earth], I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee [the rivers (armies) of enemies]: when thou walkest through the fire [in trial and tribulation the faithful will be delivered], thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.

The Holy One is the Savior of all those who put their trust in him. Jesus Christ will destroy all the unrepentant wicked just as he destroyed Egyptian bondage. \ In ancient Egypt was an allegorical type of bondage to Satan the god-king of this world and bondage to sin.

43:3 For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour: I gave Egypt for thy ransom, Ethiopia [black Africa] and Seba [India] for thee.

When Israel realizes that she has been corrected and sincerely repents; Messiah the Christ will come to destroy the oppressors and he will deliver his people; first Spiritual Israel in the resurrection and then physical Israel when he comes with God’s resurrected chosen a few days later.

43:4 Since thou wast precious in my site, thou hast been honourable, and I have loved thee: therefore will I give men for thee, and people for thy life.  43:5 Fear not: for I am with thee: I will bring thy seed from the east, and gather thee from the west; 43:6 I will say to the north, Give up; and to the south, Keep not back: bring my sons from far, and my daughters from the ends of the earth;

After Christ raises up his faithful dead from across the world; he will gather physical Israel from around the world and bring them back to the land of promise.

43:7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.

All the sincerely repentant and faithful to our Mighty One will be delivered.

43:8 Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears.

Messiah the Christ will open the eyes and ears of the spiritually blind, to see, hear and understand the Word of God.

43:9 Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, It is truth. 43:10 Ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I am he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me.

After Christ comes all nations and peoples will know that the Eternal is God!

43:11 I, even I, am the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour.

Why do we trust in men and corporations and in false teachings; when the Eternal is God?

43:12 I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, when there was no strange god among you: therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the LORD, that I am God.

Jesus Christ will destroy every idol and false god and reveal that the Father is God indeed.

43:13 Yea, before the day was I am he; and there is none that can deliver out of my hand: I will work, and who shall let [hinder or stop the will of the Creator] it?

Before creation Jesus Christ existed; he was the Implementing Creator of the Executive Will of God the Father.

Now Isaiah clearly reveals that YHVH the Creator became flesh as Jesus Christ.

43:14 Thus saith the LORD [YHVH, your redeemer [the one who redeems the people by dying in their place for their sins, and reconciles them to God the Father], the Holy One of Israel;  For your sake I have sent to Babylon, and have brought down all their nobles, and the Chaldeans, whose cry is in the ships.

YHVH the God of Moses is called our Redeemer and Creator.

43:15 I am the LORD [YHVH], your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King.

Jesus Christ the Messiah is again called the YHVH who led Israel through the Red Sea, and destroyed the Egyptians.

43:16 Thus saith the LORD [YHVH], which maketh a way in the sea, and a path in the mighty waters; 43:17 Which bringeth forth the chariot and horse, the army and the power; they shall lie down together, they shall not rise: they are extinct, they are quenched as tow.

YHVH will do a new thing, delivering Israel once again, and making a path through the nations to the land of promise. Then he will bless the repentant earth with an abundance of water and produce.  The earth will flourish and the deserts will bloom.

43:18 Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old.  43:19 Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. 43:20 The beast of the field shall honour me, the dragons [jackels] and the owls: because I give waters in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people, my chosen.

Jesus Christ called Israel to be an example of godliness for all nations; and Israel will finally fulfill her purpose in the Kingdom of God.

43:21 This people have I formed for myself; they shall shew forth my praise.

Physical and spiritual Israel have rebelled greatly against the Word of their God; therefore they will be corrected.

43:22 But thou hast not called upon me, O Jacob; but thou hast been weary of me, O Israel.

Israel including Spiritual Israel, has turned away from God to their own ways.

43:23 Thou hast not brought me the small cattle of thy burnt offerings; neither hast thou honoured me with thy sacrifices. I have not caused thee to serve with an offering, nor wearied thee with incense.

Israel [especially the spiritual Israel of today’s Spiritual Ekklesia who are supposed to know better] has not served God but have followed other paths.

43:24 Thou hast bought me no sweet cane with money, neither hast thou filled me with the fat of thy sacrifices: but thou hast made me to serve with thy sins, thou hast wearied me with thine iniquities.

We have forced God to put up with our sins until he could no longer restrain himself from correcting us.  If we will sincerely wholeheartedly repent, our sins will be blotted out and we will find mercy.

43:25 I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins. 43:26 Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.

Israel and Judah are full of sin against God, especially today’s Spiritual Ekklesia who are supposed to know better.

43:27 Thy first father hath sinned, and thy teachers have transgressed against me.  43:28 Therefore I have profaned the princes [priests, ministry] of the sanctuary, and have given Jacob to the curse, and Israel to reproaches.

Physical Israel will be corrected for all their transgressions, along with today’s arrogant self-righteous Spiritual Ekklesia [the princes of the sanctuary, meaning most of today’s elders].

Isaiah 44

Isaiah 44 is an indictment against the idolatry of physical and spiritual Israel and gives the reasons for the now imminent great tribulation. The chapter also prophesies of the deliverance of Israel in the latter days.

Wiki: Jeshurun ((Hebrew: ישְֻׁרוּן , ), in the Hebrew Bible, is a poetic name for Israel. Derived from root word meaning upright, just, straight. Jeshurun appears four times in the Hebrew Bible — three times in Deuteronomy and once in Isaiah.

In Isaiah 44:2 Jeshurum refers to Jacob as being upright. He certainly made his mistakes but he was quick to repent and become zealous for God

Isaiah 44:1 Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen: 44:2 Thus saith the LORD [YHVH] that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen.

Water is here defined as an analogy of the Holy Spirit, as Jesus would later teach in his ministry (John 7:38-39).

44:3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty (Joel 2:28), and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring:  44:4 And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.

Physical water causes plants to grow and the spiritual water of God’s Spirit – given to all those who obey the Word of God – brings much spiritual growth

44:5 One shall say, I am the LORD’s; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel.

All nations will sincerely repent and cleave in zeal to the LORD, and all peoples shall look up to Israel and no longer despise her.

The God of Jacob and Moses is proclaimed to be the Creator; Jesus Christ the beginning and the end.

Isaiah 44:6 Thus saith the LORD [YHVH] the King of Israel, and his [R]redeemer the LORD [YHVH] of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.

Revelation 1:8  I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

Isaiah 44:7 And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.

Who is like God the Father or Jesus Christ our Creator Redeemer?

44:8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no [other] God; I know not any.

Those that trust in the Eternal to learn of him and live by every Word of God need not fear even death itself, for he will keep his promises and raise up from the grave of death all those who were zealous for all God’s ways.

44:9 They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed.

Those who trust in idols, including men, corporate churches and false traditions, above the Word of God; shall be made ashamed and come to nothing.

44:10 Who hath formed a god, or molten a graven image that is profitable for nothing? 44:11 Behold, all his fellows shall be ashamed: and the workmen, they are of men: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; yet they shall fear, and they shall be ashamed together. 44:12 The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint.

Those who exalt men and corporations above the Word of God, will be ashamed in the day that they are corrected and judged.

44:13 The carpenter stretcheth out his rule; he marketh it out with a line; he fitteth it with planes, and he marketh it out with the compass, and maketh it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of a man; that it may remain in the house. 44:14 He heweth him down cedars, and taketh the cypress and the oak, which he strengtheneth for himself among the trees of the forest: he planteth an ash, and the rain doth nourish it.

Our idols are made to be destroyed: Even so the false tin gods of the corporate Ekklesia that we have put our trust in; will be destroyed.

44:15 Then shall it be for a man to burn: for he will take thereof, and warm himself; yea, he kindleth it, and baketh bread; yea, he maketh a god, and worshippeth it; he maketh it a graven image, and falleth down thereto. 44:16 He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire: 44:17 And the residue thereof he maketh a god, even his graven image: he falleth down unto it, and worshippeth it, and prayeth unto it, and saith, Deliver me; for thou art my god.

Why do we refuse to put our trust in the Word of God and the Holy One of Jacob and all his teachings [doctrines] and commandments, to live by every Word of God and instead trust in idols of men?

44:18 They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand.

An idol is nothing but the creation of our own hands or minds.  To exalt any man or group and obey them instead of living by every Word of God is idolatry.  To go and say that we do something because “the church says it is alright” is to place our salvation in the hands of our corporate idols; and to do so is the sin of idolatry which brings damnation.

We must prove out all things by the Word of God,  and then DO only what the scriptures teach.

44:19 And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?

Today each one does according to his own thoughts and not according to the Word of God; and then claims to be godly in doing what which their corporate idols teach, which is often that which is condemned by God!

A person who does not prove all things by the Word of God and reject the evil and accept the good; will be deceived by false teachers.

44:20 He feedeth on ashes: a deceived heart hath turned him aside, that he cannot deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?

He who does not rely on the Word of God cannot discern between false teachings (lies) and the truth of God.

Remember the Word of God!

Malachi 4:1 For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the Lord of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.

4:2 But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.

4:3 And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the Lord of hosts.

4:4 Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments.

In the final judgment, the unrepentant wicked who are not zealous for the Word of God will be burned up and become ashes under the feet of all those who are zealous to live by every Word of God.

Remember ye the law of Moses my servant, which I commanded unto him in Horeb [Sinai] for all Israel, with the statutes and judgments; and remember to live by every Word of God the Father always.

Isaiah 44:21 Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me.

Jesus Christ will not hold back from correcting  physical and spiritual Israel if they go astray, and he will save and reward all those who sincerely repent and turn to live by every Word of God!

44:22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee.

When we learn the lessons that God requires; then we shall sincerely repent and he will blot out our sins.

44:23 Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains [nations, governments], O forest, and every tree [every person] therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.

Again, the God of Moses YHVH, is declared to be the Creator Redeemer [Jesus Christ the Lamb of God, under God the Father] of the sincerely repentant.

44:24 Thus saith the LORD [YHVH] , thy [R]redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; 44:25 That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad [with confusion and frustration]; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish;

God promises that he will raise up Cyrus the Persian who will decree that the foundations of the temple ravaged by Nebuchadnezzar be laid.  Cyrus issued his decree to rebuild the temple in his first year, 536 B.C.

God declared this, calling Cyrus by name about 150 years in advance, to prove that the Eternal is God who can perform his will!

44:26 That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:

44:27 That saith to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up thy rivers: 44:28 That saith of Cyrus, He is my shepherd, and shall perform all my pleasure: even saying to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be built; and to the temple, Thy foundation shall be laid.
