Hebrews 6

Hebrews 6

Hebrews 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles [advancing forward from the basics] of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on [let us grow towards perfection in godliness] unto perfection;

We are to go forward in spiritual growth from the foundation of sincere repentance, baptism, the application of the sacrifice of Christ and God’s gift of his Holy Spirit: Growing day by day towards the perfection of true godliness!

. . . not [not continuing in willful sin and having to repent again] laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. 6:3 And this will we do, if God permit.

If we go to God and repent and seek His ways and commit ourselves to Him; and then we turn around and try to justify a lack of zeal to keep the whole Word of God, thinking that we are in a “state of grace” after baptism; then when we go back to God for forgiveness, God will say to us:

“No. You have not stopped rebelling against God’s Word. I have no time for you until you wake up and STOP sinning, until you wake up and turn from your wickedness and embrace My ways with deeds of faith and not just lip-service.”

In truth those who have truly been enlightened and have willfully and deliberately turned their backs on any part of the whole Word of God, have made a mockery of Christ’s sacrifice and will not repent until God has mercy on them and thoroughly corrects them and calls them to sincere repentance again.

That is, they cannot be forgiven until they have learned their lesson.

This is not referring to someone whose foot unintentionally slips and who is truly trying to live by every Word of God. This is referring to deliberate and willful self-justifying rejection of any part of the whole Word of God as is done in most of today’s spiritual Ekklesia.

6:4 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 6:5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6:6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

Today very many leaders and elders in the Ekklesia are not zealous to keep the whole Word of God, but instead reject God’s Word and truth to cling to idols of men and false teachings.

Satan has sowed not only tares but thorns and briers among the leadership who have then led the Ekklesia astray. Yet there is hope for the truly called of God who have been sincerely deceived by these evil men who have crept in unawares (Jude 1), deceiving the called out.

It is through our spiritual laxity that Satan has found his “in” and has sowed his evil ones to divert us from the true path.

There is hope because they have been sincerely deceived, even though they have allowed themselves to be deceived by not being faithful to prove all things by God’s Word and to cleave to the Mighty One of Jacob.

Brethren, the hope of today’s Laodicean, deceived, lax Ekklesia; is in the severe correction of the great tribulation; so that the called out who are sincerely deceived might find humility before God in their correction, and that they will sincerely repent of following idols of men contrary to following the whole Word of God.

That is the purpose of the tribulation, so that when their fears fall upon them, they will remember that God did not leave them without a warning; and they will quickly sincerely repent and seek Him out with a whole heart!

Then the genuinely called out will be delivered from the thorns and briers of false teachers who today dominate today’s spiritual Ekklesia; and the brethren will be delivered from their deceivers into the fertile soil of God’s Word and the rain of the Holy Spirit of God will bring forth much fruit!

6:7 For the earth which drinketh in the rain that cometh oft upon it, and bringeth forth herbs meet for them by whom it is dressed, receiveth blessing from God:

Then the thorns and briers of false teachers will be destroyed in the fiery correction of a righteous God, so that the temporarily deceived might be saved out of their hand!

6:8 But that which beareth thorns and briers is rejected, and is nigh unto cursing; whose end is to be burned.

John 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast them into the fire, and they are burned.

If anyone does not abide in Christ, and does not do what Christ commanded, which is to live by every Word of God the Father; they will be cut off and thrown into the fire.

Most of the Ekklesia today are very close to the unpardonable sin of refusing to repent and justifying our own ways, not living by God’s ways.

We are in need of very strong correction to torment the flesh so that the spirit may be saved.

This is the condition of the majority of the Ekklesia today; we are always right in our own eyes and we will not turn back to the Eternal with zeal to live by every Word of God. Jesus Christ stands at the door knocking and is ignored by most, because people are consumed with zeal for their own ways and reject any zeal to live by every Word of God (Rev 3:14-22).

We either keep God’s Word; which is there to protect all of His children from being abused by one another and to give them the foundation of knowledge and wisdom which will lead to peace, harmony, happiness, prosperity and eternal life; or we are going to be taken and cast out of Christ’s assembly of the faithful to God and into the fire of correction.

Paul then addresses the faithful pillars who stand firmly on the foundation of the whole Word of God and who are passionately, zealously diligent; to learn it and to keep it.

Hebrews 6:9 But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.

God is a rewarder of those who love him enough to learn and to keep his Word and Will! God will reward his faithful with entry into the spiritual Promised Land of eternal life

6:10 For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love [the love of God is to serve God and to live by every Word of God], which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

6:11 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence [to be diligent for the godliness of living by every Word of God] to the full assurance of hope unto the end:

Let us not be spiritually lazy and slothful in the Word of God as many have been, being deceived by false teachers who with clever words have deceived many who are not grounded on the sound doctrine of the whole Word of God.

Let us be diligently faithful to learn and to keep the whole Word of God, and to follow men only as they are proved out by the whole Word of God.

6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises

There is none greater than God the Father, the Head of Jesus Christ and King of the universe; and besides God the Father there in none greater than our espoused Husband and High Priest, Jesus Christ! Therefore follow men ONLY as they follow our Head Jesus Christ, and His Head, God the Father!

6:13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, 6:14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.

Jesus Christ, by patiently enduring and remaining without sin obtained the promise of the resurrection to spirit and eternal life! Let us each and every person also put away all sin and every hint of wickedness to follow the example of our LORD, so that we may also inherit eternal life with him!

6:15 And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise.

God swore by himself because there is no greater than God; therefore God is the one which we should exalt above all else in our lives; and we should exalt the whole Word of God above the words of any man!

6:16 For men verily swear by the greater: and an oath for confirmation is to them an end of all strife.

God swore to Abraham and to the patriarchs and to the prophets about the coming of Messiah, the Christ to die for the sins of the world and to become our High Priest.

Paul was presenting to the Hebrews and demonstrating to them from the Scriptures that it was prophesied and it was meant to be that the priesthood, the high priesthood of the Mosaic Covenant would pass away; and a better high priesthood with a better sacrifice and better promises would be restored.

We now have a High Priest who can enter into the most holy place, hidden behind the veil, the holy throne of God the Father in heaven, with a perfect sacrifice and present that sacrifice before the Father and say, “I have atoned for this man’s sins. He has repented. He is sorry. He has stopped doing these things and I have paid the price which he has earned. Now, he can be reconciled to you.

The sincerely repentant can then be brought into a close harmonious relationship with God the Almighty Father:  And we can then enter into the most holy place into the presence of God the Father, because we have repented of our sins and our sins have been atoned for and we have stopped rebelling against God and His Word.

Sincere repentance and the application of the sacrifice of Christ gives us access to the King of the universe, and we may come before Him and seek Him boldly through the mediation of Jesus Christ.

It is Christ’s sacrifice coupled with our repentance and our turning away from sin, which provides us with the opportunity for access to God the Father and we can then boldly go to God and ask Him for His Spirit. We can ask Him to empower us to overcome sin, and empower us to go and sin no more.

Sin is the breaking of the Word of God, as it is written: “sin is the transgression of the law” (1 John 3:4). And God will empower us and strengthen us with His Spirit so that we can live by every Word of God.

He who overcomes to the end shall be saved. Many are called, few are chosen (Mat 22:14). Those who are chosen will be those who overcome all sin throughout their lives to the very end.

What is overcoming? It is stopping sin and internalizing the very nature of God through the indwelling of Jesus Christ by the Spirit of God. It means overcoming the breaking of any part of God’s Word.

This is not a hopeless task. Quite the contrary, it is a task full of hope because Jesus Christ overcame all. He said, “I have overcome the world (John 16:33).” With the help of His Spirit and the Spirit of God the Father; we can also overcome the world like Christ did.

For someone to say that the flesh is weak and in this life we cannot overcome in the flesh on our own, is correct; we cannot overcome ON OUR OWN but we CAN overcome by Jesus Christ dwelling within us!

Do not make our weakness of the flesh an excuse to continue sinning. Rather seek and use the power that God gives to us and work hard to overcome all sin.

Yes, the flesh is weak, it is very weak, and the flesh cannot overcome on its own; but God is very strong; and if we sincerely repent, we have access to God and we have access to His strength through the application of the sacrifice and the intercession of our High Priest Jesus Christ.

We need only fully commit ourselves to obey Him and keep every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Living God. We need only ask for the application of Christ’s sacrifice and then we need only go to God the Father and seek Him diligently, seek His Spirit, seek His wisdom, ask for understanding; and ask for the strength and power of a sound mind to control our actions.

When we do these things, we can overcome. It will take hard effort, but eventually we will overcome the world, if we keep fighting and giving out the effort. Not by our own self nor by our own strength and not by the power of our flesh; but by the power of Jesus Christ through the Spirit of God dwelling in us!

6:17 Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew unto the heirs of promise the immutability [surety] of his counsel, confirmed it by an oath: 6:18 That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we [We must be reconciled to God the Father and we may enter in to the Most Holy Place of God the Father only through Jesus Christ our High Priest who has entered in before us.] might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge [we are to flee from the spiritual Egypt of bondage of sin, running to God] to lay hold upon the hope [of salvation by Jesus Christ] set before us:

6:19 Which hope we have as an anchor of the soul [pneuma, spirit], both sure and stedfast, and which entereth into that [God the Father] within the veil; 6:20 Whither [where Christ the forerunner has already entered] the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

Jesus Christ is our High Priest of the New Covenant. We have a high priesthood of the Creator God, our Maker, and not a human intercessor who was made by that Creator.

Do you see what this means?

All priesthoods of men have been ended and the only priesthood of the New Covenant is the restored priesthood of Melchizedek  [Jesus Christ]!

Today, No man and No ministry is to stand BETWEEN the called out and God the Father except Jesus Christ! NO!

It is the proven and faithful Jesus Christ who is now our High Priest, and we must follow God the Father and our High Priest Jesus Christ directly and personally: We are to follow men ONLY as they follow God the Father and Jesus Christ the High Priest to whom we were called by God the Father!

Indeed when the Mosaic priesthood of Aaron went astray in the past, were the people to follow them astray from God? NO! Absolutely NOT! The people were to remain faithful to God even if the human priests of Levi went astray; which was a lesson for us that we should do likewise in regards to today’s ministry!

The priesthood of Aaron ended with the ending of the Mosaic Covenant; and the New Covenant priesthood of Jesus Christ was restored with the Wave Offering presentation to God the Father.

Why then does it say in Isaiah 66 that God will yet take the descendants of Aaron for Levites and priests to serve in the Ezekiel Temple?

Because when Christ comes the Levitical descendants of Zadok will be converted to the New Covenant and they will then serve the New Covenant High Priest Jesus Christ, in the physical aspects of the Ezekiel Temple!

  1. Hey James,

when Paul wrote this statement in Hebrews 6:13 For when God made promise to Abraham, because he could swear by no greater, he sware by himself, 6:14 Saying, Surely blessing I will bless thee, and multiplying I will multiply thee.

which member of the God family sware by Himself ?

He was not swearing by any individual member but by the whole God family. In light of the actual meaning of “G 1438” and the many other scriptures on the subject; Hebrews 6:13 “himself” is better rendered simply as God or by the collective “themselves” as referring to the collective God.
    See G1438 http://www.godrules.net/library/kjvstrongs/kjvstrongsheb6.htm

This word cautou was translated “himself” according to the bias of the translators. Melchizedek was a part of the collective God family when he was still spirit, before he gave up his Godhood and personal position in that family to become flesh. Therefore he was not swearing by an individual but swore by the entire God family of which he was a part, there being nothing greater than the collective God family of the Father and himself [when he was a spirit].
