1 Corinthians 5
Those who pride themselves on tolerating sin, ignorantly supposing that tolerating sin is love; are just like the brethren of Corinth. Here is what the scriptures have to say about that.
1 Corinthians 5:1 It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife. 5:2 And ye are puffed up, and have not rather mourned [you should have mourned over (been disgusted by) the sin and rejected the sinner from among you], that he that hath done this deed might be taken away from among you.
The word here rendered “fornication” is PORNEA; which actually means any kind of Biblically illicit sexual behavior, which in the spiritual sense represents disloyalty to God. In this case one wonders about the woman involved and why it is not commanded for her to also be rejected; perhaps she was not part of the assembly?
Today when a spouse loves others more that their marriage partner it is called emotional adultery. In the spiritual context, the word pornea includes the concept of emotional or spiritual adultery against the Husband of our baptismal commitment by following idols and false religious teachings, in violation of our baptismal espousal to Christ.
The spiritual parallel of eating things sacrificed to idols; refers to internalizing their false teachings. PORNEA is not limited by the English definition of fornication as strictly premarital sex.
Today spiritual fornication against the Word of God with false doctrines, false teachers and false religions is tolerated, allowed and often encouraged in the Ekklesia.
Those who quote the false teachings of worldly prophets and the unconverted in support for their own positions; are simply blind men, following blind men; and they shall all fall into the same ditch of ignorance of the truth of God.
5:3 For I verily, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that hath so done this deed, 5:4 In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.
The Holy Scriptures command us to reject those who sin willfully without sincere repentance.
1 Corinthians 5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
We are to root out sin from within ourselves and our organizations by wholeheartedly seeking to become like God, by removing all sin and rejecting all the willfully sinful, and we are to internalize the very nature of God as defined by God’s Word.
We are not to flirt with the blindness of carnal men which is spiritual and moral idolatry. Willful sin should NEVER be tolerated in our congregations. The leaven of wickedness should be purged out of our organizations and out of each individual before our Creator corrects us himself. For if we follow the spiritually blind, we will fall into the same ditch of ignorance and sin that they are in.
Paul goes on to say that a little sin pollutes the whole congregation and commands that the leaven of this sinful person be removed from the assembly. Today the Nicolaitane church governance system of placing a ministry between man and God – in place of a ministry that focuses the brethren on God and not on themselves – has grown and polluted the whole body of believers with a multitude of sins.
Paul teaches that all willful sin must be removed from the whole body and from each individual and never tolerated; because Christ was sacrificed for us so that we could be liberated from the bondage of sin.
1 Corinthians 5:6 Your glorying [in tolerating sin] is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump? 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us:
We are to remove ALL sin and cast it out before it destroys us, either individually or destroys the congregation collectively. We are to seek out the eternal life that true godliness brings.
We are not to reject the sinner with malice, but we are to reject the unrepentant in the hope that he will also come to repentance.
5:8 Therefore let us keep the feast [the whole Feast of Unleavened Bread; not just two High Days], not with old leaven [we are not to remain sinful, and we are to remove sin from ourselves and from our Assemblies], neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread [Christ-like purity from sin unto godliness] of sincerity and truth.
We ARE to keep the whole seven day Feast of Unleavened Bread with the eating of unleavened bread every day as we are commanded; which is symbolic of internalizing the Bread of Life, the godly nature of Jesus Christ, forever.
If we do not eat unleavened bread every day; it is symbolic of rejecting Jesus Christ and if we eat LEAVEN during that Feast it is symbolic of internalizing SIN.
5:9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: 5:10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world [we can do business with worldly people but we must NOT follow their religious doctrines], or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
If we cannot discern and remove the wicked in our own congregations; how do we expect to judge the nations as kings and priests? This is not talking about tares who appear godly, this is a command concerning willful sinners.
Today the brethren have been deceived by the wicked into thinking that they must not remove sinners because of the parable of the tares.
Brethren, the tares are those who appear to be godly but do not bear fruit, tolerating them does not mean that we are to tolerate willful sinners.
5:11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company [We are commanded not to tolerate and associate with willful sin in our assemblies.], if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator [pornea; ALL sexual immorality], or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat. 5:12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
We are to judge the conduct of those within our Assemblies and discern as to who we should assemble with; judging by the Word of God.
Holy Scripture here commands us NOT to assemble with evildoers; and the spirit of this command is that we are to assemble with like-minded DOERS of God’s Word; and NOT with those who do not diligently learn and KEEP the whole Word of God.
5:13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
We are commanded to remove the willful sinner from our assemblies, we are to reject those who attempt to justify their sins and refuse to repent.
We must judge who we will keep company with and assemble with; so that we are not keeping company with evildoers.
1 Corinthians 6
The following is speaking about lawsuits between members of the body of believers. Paul backs the instructions of Jesus Christ the HEAD of the body in Matthew 18. We are to do our best to try and work out our disputes and if that cannot be done then we are to go to the Ekklesia for a judgment, based on the whole Word of God.
1 Corinthians 6:1 Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? 6:2 Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?
6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge [oversee, supervise, rule over; angels in the future] angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?
Paul here refers to the command of Jesus Christ in Matthew 18:15-20. Paul shames them by saying that the least in the Ekklesia should have more spiritual wisdom than the unconverted.
6:4 If then ye have judgments of things pertaining to this life, set them to judge who are least esteemed in the church. 6:5 I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren? 6:6 But brother goeth to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers.
What is to be done if one party will not accept a man of faith judging the dispute? Jesus tells us plainly in Matthew 18 that such a one is to be rejected from the brotherhood.
6:7 Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because ye go to law one with another. Why do ye not rather take wrong? [Jesus Christ also commanded us to endure the wrong and forgive (Mat 18:21-22)] why do ye not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded?
6:8 Nay, ye do wrong, and defraud, and that your brethren.
Today’s situation of divisions in the brotherhood is only exacerbated by going to the public law against one another. Does that engender peace and reconciliation, or does it engender high costs, hard feelings and more division?
6:9 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind [homosexuals], 6:10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
6:11 And such were some of you: but [if we sincerely repent and commit to “go and sin no more”] ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Let us NOT go back into the swill that we were delivered out of! Let us not tolerate any leaven of willful sin remaining within us or within our religious associations!
6:12 All things [that] are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: [Just because something is lawful does not make it a wise thing to do in all circumstances.] all things [that] are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any.
We should not blindly bow to idols of men without checking and proving every word of men by the whole Word of God. To blindly follow men places us in the power of such men; and makes us the servants of men, and not the servants of God.
We must not be willingly addicted to, or controlled by anything. That is one reason why we should not smoke or take recreational drugs or voluntarily subject ourselves to others as in voluntary military service. Even alcohol although lawful is not to be taken in excess.
6:13 Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them [all flesh will perish and eating meat is lawful as long as it has been sanctified as clean and lawful to consume by the scriptures (Deu 14, Lev 11)]. Now the body is not for fornication [pornea: all biblically unlawful sexual activity, and spiritual disloyalty to God’s Word], but for the Lord; and the Lord for the body.
We are to be separated from sin and set apart to holiness; therefore we are not to become “one flesh” with others outside of marriage; because marriage is an allegory of the called out becoming one spirit in a permanent relationship with Jesus Christ.
We have espoused ourselves to Christ and if we remain faithful to HIM and keep all of his teachings, internalizing his very nature and Spirit of God the Father: We shall be chosen as a part of his permanent spiritual bride and given eternal life!
6:14 And God [the Father] hath both raised up the Lord, and will also raise up us by his own power. 6:15 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
6:16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
Why then will we be joined and become one mind with a false doctrine?
To be joined with and to mix God’s Word with false teachings on doctrine or prophecy is contrary to God’s Word. Such spiritual pornea makes us one with the false teachings; for even a little leaven leavens the whole lump.
Daniel 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
1 Corinthians 6:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit [with God].
And he that is joined with a false spirit is committing spiritual adultery against his espoused Lord!
6:18 Flee fornication. [flee from all pornea both physical and spiritual.] Every sin that a man doeth is without [outside his own body] the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
Physical pornea defiles our body because it makes us one flesh with sinners, and spiritual pornea defiles our spirit because it makes us of one mind with falsehoods and separates us from Jesus Christ: Tolerating false doctrine is the sin of pornea against the Husband of our baptismal commitment, Jesus Christ.
6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
We belong to God the Father and Jesus Christ. Our life has been redeemed from death at a great price. To then go consorting with foreign gods, unscriptural teachings and idols of men, is an affront to the Majesty on High.
You men: How long would you put up with a wife who goes whoring after other men? Why then should you go whoring after other gods?
Do such actions not devalue your relationship to nothing? You become just one man among many to your wife. And does not your God become just one God among many idols to you?
Exodus 34:12 Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee: 34:13 but ye shall destroy their altars, break their images, and cut down their groves: 34:14 for thou shalt worship [follow and obey] no other god [by accepting or tolerating their doctrines]: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: 34:15 lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they go a whoring after their gods,
If you want the truth: then go to the source of all truth: the Word of Almighty God.
If you want to be deceived into the foolishness of carnal man; then go study the false doctrines of the unconverted. The carnal [unconverted person] man cannot understand spiritual matters!
Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
1 Corinthians 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned
Paul tells us so. God’s Word tells us so. Why go to the unconverted seeking spiritual enlightenment when they are in the depths of spiritual darkness and spiritual blindness?
Can a man serve two masters? Can a woman serve two husbands? Can any house with divided affections long stand? Can a person serve both God and others?
God the Father and Jesus Christ WILL NOT TOLERATE DIVIDED AFFECTIONS; Jesus said so (Mat 10:32-37).
Our espoused Husband is a Majestic and Awesome God, King and High Priest. If we demonstrate no respect for him: Why should he have any respect for us?
Brethren; there is a very great sin among God’s people: it is the sin of Spiritual Adultery and Spiritual Idolatry in following the false traditions of men.
We accept teachings that contradict God’s Infallible Word; and we exalt mortal men by accepting them as our ultimate moral authority making them our idols in place of: THE WORD OF ALMIGHTY GOD!
