Just as John was made to eat the scroll of Revelation as an example of internalizing the words of God, Ezekiel was also told to eat the words; and then both John and Ezekiel later wrote out the words of YHVH himself.
Ezekiel 3:1 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, eat that thou findest; eat roll, and go speak unto the house of Israel. 3:2 So I opened my mouth, and he caused me to eat that roll.
The words of God are as sweet as honey in the reading because of the ultimate joy of their completion with the coming of Messiah the Christ, yet they are very bitter in the belly because of the bitterness of great tribulation which must come in the process of their fulfillment.
3:3 And he said unto me, Son of man, cause thy belly to eat, and fill thy bowels with this roll that I give thee. Then did I eat it; and it was in my mouth as honey for sweetness.
Ezekiel was sent to physical and spiritual Israel.
The words Israel and Judah refer to the two respective kingdoms.
In the context of Ezekiel and this prophecy , Judah was about to fall but Israel had already fallen over a hundred years previously. The term “House of Israel” also refers to a future time when both Judah and Israel will fall for a second time, and this time they will fall together (Hos 5:5); when in the past they fell separately.
We also know that this refers mainly to the future because of Ezekiel 4 – 5 where Israel and Judah will each be blessed for a certain period [40 years for Judah and 390 years for Israel] and will then fall together [into the same 42 month tribulation] after that blessing.
3:4 And he said unto me, Son of man, go, get thee unto the house of Israel, and speak with my words unto them. 3:5 For thou art not sent to a people of a strange speech and of an hard language, but to the house of Israel; 3:6 Not to many people of a strange speech and of an hard language, whose words thou canst not understand. Surely, had I sent thee to them, they would have hearkened unto thee.
Jesus Christ already knew that the end time physical and spiritual Israel – including today’s Laodicean Ekklesia – would not listen to his warnings, for we are a self-exalting, self-justifying, proud, stubborn and hardhearted people; who will not be entreated.
3:7 But the house of Israel will not hearken unto thee; for they will not hearken unto me: for all the house of Israel are impudent and hardhearted.
Just as Jesus Christ strengthened Ezekiel to stand up to the great and the strong in his day; even so Jesus Christ strengthens those who proclaim His Word and warn the called out in this end time.
Today physical and spiritual Israel are rebellious against God, exalting their own ways above the Word of God; and a warning is being proclaimed to them.
3:8 Behold, I have made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead strong against their foreheads. 3:9 As an adamant harder than flint have I made thy forehead: fear them not, neither be dismayed at their looks, though they be a rebellious house.
All of God’s people are to proclaim God’s Words and are not to teach their own ways and false traditions.
To discern between faithful and false teachers, it is only necessary to know God’s Word, because every teaching contrary to the Word of God is false (Mat 7:15-29).
3:10 Moreover he said unto me, Son of man, all my words that I shall speak unto thee receive in thine heart, and hear with thine ears.
All of God’s people have this commandment to SHOUT OUT the Truth to all people, especially to the Called Out; with all their might!
3:11 And go, get thee to them of the captivity [today spiritual Israel is in spiritual captivity to pride and rebellion against the truth of God’s Word], unto the children [the latter day descendants] of thy people, and speak unto them, and tell them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear.
All of this happened in a vision, and after Ezekiel ate the scroll and made the words of YHVH a part of himself, Ezekiel saw YHVH leave him in the vision and the vision ended.
3:12 Then the spirit took me up, and I heard behind me a voice of a great rushing, saying, Blessed be the glory of the LORD from his place. 3:13 I heard also the noise of the wings of the living creatures that touched one another, and the noise of the wheels over against them, and a noise of a great rushing.
The vision being ended, Ezekiel went his way; but the Spirit of God was strong upon him to direct him.
3:14 So the spirit lifted me up, and took me away, and I went in bitterness [mourning over the words of the prophecy he had been given], in the heat [excitement] of my spirit; but the hand of the LORD was strong upon me.
Then Ezekiel remained astonished and thinking about the meaning of the vision for seven days by the river.
3:15 Then I came to them of the captivity at Telabib, that dwelt by the river of Chebar, and I sat where they sat, and remained there astonished among them seven days.
After seven days YHVH speaks to Ezekiel again and commissions him as a watchman to physical and spiritual Israel.
Ezekiel is to speak the Word of God and not his own words to physical and spiritual Israel, by writing them in a book for the latter days.
3:16 And it came to pass at the end of seven days, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 3:17 Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me.
Brethren, all people of God are to be Ezekiel type watchmen for the world and are to proclaim the gospel of warning and repentance. Today’s church of God groups are NOT doing their jobs! and because they are not warning the nations, they will themselves suffer along with the wicked!
3:18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
It is incumbent upon godly people to preach the gospel of warning and sincere repentance as Ezekiel type watchmen; teaching all people to live by every Word of God! None of today’s Ekklesia are doing this: except our sites!
3:19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.
If a godly person does not warn the righteous who have gone astray from zeal to keep the whole Word of God; that man who has turned aside will die in his sins and the person who knew and said nothing will be guilty of the sinners blood because he saw him turn aside and said nothing.
Brethren, hear the Word of God and fear to keep quiet when the church organizations have gone astray and no longer openly rebuke sin; either in their atrocious business model outreach programs, or in their assemblies!
3:20 Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling-block before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.
All godly people have a command to: Isaiah 58:1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and shew my people their transgression, and the [physical AND spiritual] house of Jacob their sins. and today’s spiritual Ekklesia is NOT doing this, either publicly or even within their own assemblies!
Ezekiel 3:21 Nevertheless if thou warn the righteous man, that the righteous sin not, and he doth not sin, he shall surely live, because he is warned; also thou hast delivered thy soul.
All the faithful of God are to obey God and to love others. Is it really love to let others die in their sins without warning them?
If we say we love others and yet tolerate sin in our brothers out of that supposed love; is that really love? Is it not a far greater love to refuse to tolerate the sin that will destroy our brother and to warn him of the danger he has fallen into?
In truth all God’s people should be Ezekiel’s!
James 5:19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of [the repentant person’s] sins.
Then God led Ezekiel away from the river and into the desert
Ezekiel 3:22 And the hand of the LORD was there upon me; and he said unto me, Arise, go forth into the plain, and I will there talk with thee.
There in the desert plain, Ezekiel saw the one who gave up his Godhood to be made flesh and became the Son: Ezekiel seeing him in part of his glory and brilliant light, fainted, falling on the ground.
3:23 Then I arose, and went forth into the plain: and, behold, the glory of the LORD [YHVH] stood there, as the glory which I saw by the river of Chebar: and I fell on my face.
Then Ezekiel revived and was inspired to go back to his own house.
3:24 Then the spirit entered into me, and set me upon my feet, and spake with me, and said unto me, Go, shut thyself within thine house.
Ezekiel is told that God will not allow him to speak his own words, and that he must speak only the words that God commands him to speak.
3:25 But thou, O son of man, behold, they shall put bands upon thee, and shall bind thee with them, and thou shalt not go out among them: 3:26 And I will make thy tongue cleave to the roof of thy mouth, that thou shalt be dumb, and shalt not be to them a reprover: for they are a rebellious house.
Ezekiel was sent mainly to warn the latter day physical and spiritual Israel; and by Israel is meant the whole house of Israel including Judah.
3:27 But when I speak with thee, I will open thy mouth, and thou shalt say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; He that heareth, let him hear; and he that forbeareth, let him forbear: for they are a rebellious house.
Brethren, it is the duty of the leaders and elders to cry aloud and proclaim the gospel of warning, sincere repentance and salvation to the world; teaching all people to live by every Word of God.
