Exodus 31-32

Exodus 31

Bezaleel and Aholiab are called by God and given skill to work on the things of the priesthood and the tabernacle.

Exodus 31:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 31:2 See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur [Hur who had helped to hold up Moses’ arms during the battle with the Amalekites], of the tribe of Judah: 31:3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 31:4 To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 31:5 And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.

31:6 And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee; 31:7 The tabernacle of the congregation, and the ark of the testimony, and the mercy seat that is thereupon, and all the furniture of the tabernacle, 31:8 And the table and his furniture, and the pure candlestick with all his furniture, and the altar of incense, 31:9 And the altar of burnt offering with all his furniture, and the laver and his foot, 31:10 And the cloths of service, and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and the garments of his sons, to minister in the priest’s office, 31:11 And the anointing oil, and sweet incense for the holy place: according to all that I have commanded thee shall they do.

Zeal for keeping the Sabbath is emphasized as one sign between God and his people.  This sign is for us, so that we may have this weekly time to spend with God and learn about him:  “that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.”

31:12 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 31:13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you.

Today the Assemblies proclaim the Set Apartness of the Sabbath, and then go out to pollute it on a weekly basis:  FOR SHAME!   They cook, do menial work around the home and pay others to cook and work for them!  For Shame that the brethren for the most part, speak their own words about business and gossip, and do not discuss the Word of the Eternal!

For this God proclaims that they are cut off from HIM, and are cut off  from being accounted among his people as a part of his collective bride!

31:14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

The apostate Called Out of Spiritual Israel will surely be rejected by Christ (Rev 3:16) and vomited out of his body into great tribulation, where they will be strongly corrected for defiling the sanctity of the Sabbath and Annual Holy Days.

31:15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.  31:16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant.

Keeping the Sabbath, New Moons and Festivals on God’s schedule in the way that God has said, acknowledges the absolute authority of God and His Word.

31:17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.

Then the one who became Jesus Christ [Hebrew: Yeshua Mashiach] gave Moses two tables of stone written with the ten foundational commandments.

31:18 And he gave unto Moses, when he had made an end of communing with him upon mount Sinai, two tables of testimony, tables of stone, written with the finger of God.

Exodus 32

Moses was up on the mount and hidden in clouds for 40 days and the people grew impatient.  They went to Aaron and asked him to make them statues representing spiritual things so that they could worship before them.

Exodus 32:1 And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us; for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him.

Aaron then took the gold of the people and made them idols of calves after the likeness of Apis the bull god of Egypt.  Later Jeroboam was to commit this same sin, setting up the bull god of Egypt in Samaria.

32:2 And Aaron said unto them, Break off the golden earrings, which are in the ears of your wives, of your sons, and of your daughters, and bring them unto me. 32:3 And all the people brake off the golden earrings which were in their ears, and brought them unto Aaron.

A calf of gold was then formed and declared to be the likeness of God, and Aaron built an altar to it.

This demonstrates how quickly men go astray.  Israel which had just walked through the Sea was turned aside from their God who they had just married the,m proclaiming:  “All that the LORD has said; we will do.”   In fact the people were deceived, for not having seen God they imagined him as being like a strong bull calf!  They worshiped God by their own ways and imaginations as most of the brethren try to worship God today!

The spiritually Called Out of the today’s Ekklesia have also gone astray: being misled into thinking that they are worshiping God, while following idols of  men, of corporate organizations and of numbers and mammon!  Doing what they think is right by their own imaginations, instead of being zealous to live by every Word of God!

32:4 And he received them at their hand, and fashioned it with a graving tool, after he had made it a molten calf: and they said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which brought thee up out of the land of Egypt. 32:5 And when Aaron saw it, he built an altar before it; and Aaron made proclamation, and said, To morrow is a feast to the LORD. 32:6 And they rose up early on the morrow, and offered burnt offerings, and brought peace offerings; and the people sat down to eat and to drink, and rose up to play.

YHVH then commanded Moses to run down to the people because of this terrible sin; which is the same sin of the majority of the brethren today.

32:7 And the LORD said unto Moses, Go, get thee down; for thy people, which thou broughtest out of the land of Egypt, have corrupted themselves: 32:8 They have turned aside quickly out of the way which I commanded them: they have made them a molten calf, and have worshipped it, and have sacrificed thereunto, and said, These be thy gods, O Israel, which have brought thee up out of the land of Egypt.

Then the one who became Jesus Christ resolved to destroy the people!

Even so, the Called Out of today’s spiritual Israel, calling themselves God’s people; have committed this same sin in a spiritual manner.  Worshiping and exalting men and corporate organizations above the Word of God; blindly following the words of men contrary to the Word of God and worshiping [following and obeying] the organizational  golden calves and opinions of men!

Most assuredly if Jesus Christ decided to reject and kill those people who did not have his Spirit; how much more will he be angry and reject those today who are supposed to have his Spirit and still commit the same sins on a spiritual level!  See the message to Laodicea (Rev 3).

32:9 And the LORD said unto Moses, I have seen this people, and, behold, it is a stiffnecked people: 32:10 Now therefore let me alone, that my wrath may wax hot against them, and that I may consume them: and I will make of thee a great nation.

Moses the Mosaic Mediator pleads for the people, and YHVH who later became Jesus Christ accepted his plea; but today Jesus Christ is our Mediator and he will not plead for us any longer, but will stop his Daily Intercession because of the abominations committed by today’s Ekklesia in rejecting God’s Word to follow our own false traditions.

32:11 And Moses besought the LORD his God, and said, LORD, why doth thy wrath wax hot against thy people, which thou hast brought forth out of the land of Egypt with great power, and with a mighty hand? 32:12 Wherefore should the Egyptians speak, and say, For mischief did he bring them out, to slay them in the mountains, and to consume them from the face of the earth? Turn from thy fierce wrath, and repent of this evil against thy people.

32:13 Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, thy servants, to whom thou swarest by thine own self, and saidst unto them, I will multiply your seed as the stars of heaven, and all this land that I have spoken of will I give unto your seed, and they shall inherit it for ever.

The Eternal repented of his thoughts against Israel, because of the mediatorial pleadings of Moses.

Today God will not hold back and spiritual New Covenant Israel will be thrown into the fire of affliction

32:14 And the LORD repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

The stone tablets were written by the hand of God on BOTH sides.

32:15 And Moses turned, and went down from the mount, and the two tables of the testimony were in his hand: the tables were written on both their sides; on the one side and on the other were they written. 32:16 And the tables were the work of God, and the writing was the writing of God, graven upon the tables.

As Moses came down from the mount Joshua met him, and they heard the noise of the people partying before the calf.

32:17 And when Joshua heard the noise of the people as they shouted, he said unto Moses, There is a noise of war in the camp. 32:18 And he said, It is not the voice of them that shout for mastery, neither is it the voice of them that cry for being overcome: but the noise of them that sing do I hear.

Moses was hot with anger at this sin; while today’s Assemblies fail to condemn this same sin within their congregations.  Why?  Because we have made the leaders and organizations:  Our golden calf!  Today most elders and leaders will not correct the people for exalting them [the corporate churches and elders] as little gods blindly following them without question.

32:19 And it came to pass, as soon as he [Moses] came nigh unto the camp, that he saw the calf, and the dancing: and Moses’ anger waxed hot, and he cast the tables out of his hands, and brake them beneath the mount.

As Moses destroyed the idol, so I speak out, calling all brethren to turn from our corporate idols, to turn men back to a genuine zeal for learning and living by every Word of God and to exalt the mighty One of Jacob!

32:20 And he took the calf which they had made, and burnt it in the fire, and ground it to powder, and strawed it upon the water, and made the children of Israel drink of it.

Then Moses inquires of Aaron, and Aaron blames the people and justifies himself.

Oh, how like Aaron we are today; for the brethren will say that “We were only obeying the elders”:  and the elders will say “we were only obeying our employers”; and the leaders will say “we are only following what we thought was right and not exalting your Word.”  Is there no one who will take responsibility for his own actions?

I tell you true that our Judge will not buy into such self justification; he will judge every person for his own actions, according to the whole Word of God. We are all personally responsible for proving all things and living by every Word of God!

32:21 And Moses said unto Aaron, What did this people unto thee, that thou hast brought so great a sin upon them? 32:22 And Aaron said, Let not the anger of my lord wax hot: thou knowest the people, that they are set on mischief. 32:23 For they said unto me, Make us gods, which shall go before us: for as for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we wot not what is become of him. 32:24 And I said unto them, Whosoever hath any gold, let them break it off. So they gave it me: then I cast it into the fire, and there came out this calf.

The people were naked [revealed as sinners] before their enemies.  Even so the spiritual Israel of today stands naked of godliness, and we have lost the protection of the Eternal by our idolatry.  The time of our rejection into great tribulation is almost at hand.

Very many who consider themselves Elijah’s today, will find that Jesus Christ has thrown them into the furnace of affliction to humble them of their pride and sins.

Moses separated and divided the people; those who were zealous for God on one side; and the faithless on the other side.

The very same thing is being done today, as God is sifting out those individuals who are zealous for Him and his Word.

32:25 And when Moses saw that the people were naked; (for Aaron had made them naked unto their shame among their enemies:) 32:26 Then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORD’s side? let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him.

Just as the Levites slew many on that day; so very many of today’;s Ekklesia will fall during the imminent tribulation; for they are naked of God’s protection through the overspreading of their idolatries.

32:27 And he said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour. 32:28 And the children of Levi did according to the word of Moses: and there fell of the people that day about three thousand men.

The Called Out of spiritual Israel, the Church of God groups of today; are being called to consecrate [by sincerely repenting and turning from our sin] themselves to the Eternal, and to turn away from their blind unquestioning idolatrous following of men and false tradition.

32:29 For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves today to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.

I expect that when the Levites began to kill the wicked; the living quickly repented; even as most of today’s Called Out will quickly repent when they find themselves in tribulation.

Then the next day Moses as mediator goes to make an atonement for the people, and pleads with God on their behalf.

32:30 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.

32:31 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold. 32:32 Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin–; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.

God then tells Moses that every person must die for his own unrepented sin.

32:33 And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book.

The Eternal plagued the people and the people returned to the LORD to move forward.

32:34 Therefore now go, lead the people unto the place of which I have spoken unto thee: behold, mine Angel shall go before thee: nevertheless in the day when I visit I will visit their sin upon them. 32:35 And the LORD plagued the people, because they made the calf, which Aaron made.

  1. Something that is fascinating to contemplate is the following:

Ex Exodus 31:1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 31:2 See, I have called by name Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah: 31:3 And I have filled him with the spirit of God, in wisdom, and in understanding, and in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, 31:4 To devise cunning works, to work in gold, and in silver, and in brass, 31:5 And in cutting of stones, to set them, and in carving of timber, to work in all manner of workmanship.
    31:6 And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;

God’s calling not only included whatever specific assignments that calling entails, it also included the capacity, either physical, mental, or spiritual) to carry out the calling given by God.

Recall how Solomon became filled with wisdom–he asked from a sincere heart for it and God was inclined to grant him his request:

I Kings 3:7-13 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude.
Give therefore thy servant an understanding heart to judge thy people, that I may discern between good and bad: for who is able to judge this thy so great a people?
And the speech pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing.
    And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life; neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies; but hast asked for thyself understanding to discern judgment;
Behold, I have done according to thy words: lo, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart; so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.
And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches, and honour: so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days.

As the season of the Passover and Days of Unleavened Bread approach, may God grant to all of His called out the purity of a humble and repentant heart by which God can grant the capacity
to fulfill; whatever specific calling He has designated for each of them.
