Colossians 3:1 If ye then be risen [risen from the waters of baptism into godliness] with Christ, seek those things which are above [seek godly things and not worldliness], where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God [the Father]. 3:2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth [seek spiritual things and not fixate on physical things]. 3:3 For ye [our PAST sinful person is dead in repentance and baptism] are dead, and your life is hid [the sincerely repentant baptized person is to become a new being at one in full unity with God] with Christ in God.
Our new life is to be a Christ-like life so that when he comes we may be changed to a glorified spirit body and live forever through the sacrifice and salvation of Christ and the mercy of God the Father.
3:4 When Christ, who is our life [The application of the sacrifice of Jesus Christ gives us eternal life if we are faithful to STOP sinning.], shall appear, then shall ye also appear [be resurrected to be with him] with him in glory.
3:5 Mortify [kill, destroy] therefore your [We must destroy our PAST wicked person, and STOP sinning and living contrary to any part of the whole Word of God.] members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection [unlawful affections], evil concupiscence [mentally fantasizing about doing wickedness and evil], and covetousness [placing our personal desires above God’s Word], which is idolatry: 3:6 For which things’ sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
Today the spiritual Ekklesia are children of disobedience to God, being FULL of idolatry and spiritual adultery as they make idols of men and false traditions; breaking God’s Word to please men.
We are supposed to have sincerely repented of our idolatry and wickedness, and instead we have gone back into spiritual adultery by loving men and false traditions more than we love God; and following men instead of proving men and being zealous to learn and live by every Word of God.
Just like the Mosaic Pharisees, today’s spiritual Ekklesia teaches the doctrines of men and follows idols of men, contrary to the Word of God.
Today the Sabbath and High Days are called holy and then continually polluted, and in very many other things we defy God’s Word to follow the doctrines [teachings] of men.
Matthew 15:7 Ye hypocrites, well did Esaias prophesy of you, saying,
15:8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
15:9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
Colossians 3:7 In the which [We have all sinned in the past, yet we are now supposed to have repented and to have STOPPED sinning.] ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
3:8 But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication [Filthy communication is far more than gutter talk, and includes any false teaching that leads us away from our zeal to live by every Word of God.] out of your mouth.
3:9 Lie not one to another [do not teach any false thing], seeing that ye have put off the old man [we are to repent and put off the sin in our past] with his deeds;
3:10 And have put on the new man [We are to become a new person with Christ dwelling is us, so that we may be godly just as Jesus Christ was and is godly.], which is renewed in knowledge [knowledge of godliness and the whole Word of God through the Spirit of Christ dwelling in us] after the image of him [Christ] that created him [us]:
All those who are one in mind and spirit with God the Father and Jesus Christ; are a new and holy people, made one in Jesus Christ and those who are in full unity with God are not many peoples, but have become ONE nation and one godly people!
1 Peter 2:9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises [be a Shining Light of godly example] of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;
Colossians 3:11 Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ is all, and in all.
Godly people are to put away all wickedness and are to live just as Christ lived; being bold and strong to warn and to rebuke all sin just as Jesus Christ and Paul did, and being quick to forgive even those who had hated and persecuted us.
3:12 Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind, meekness, longsuffering; 3:13 Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. 3:14 And above all these things put on charity [Godly love, which is defined by the law of God], which is the bond of perfectness.
2 John 1:6 And this is love, that we walk after his commandments.
1 John 5:3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.
We are to be at peace with God through living by ALL of God’s Word, doing God’s Will and doing all those things that please our heavenly Father and our eternal Husband and High Priest, Jesus Christ; and by being at peace with God in this way, the peace of God [the Word of God] will dwell in our hearts.
Jeremiah 31:33 But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.
When our hearts are full of God, we will be continually thinking on godly things and we will bubble over with joy and singing about God and our love for God.
Colossians 3:15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
All that we do, should be consistent with every Word of God, and should be a Shining Light of godly example for all to see.
3:17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Some instructions in godliness: Wives are to submit to their husbands as an example that we are all to submit to our spirit Husband Jesus Christ. Husbands are never to bully their wives but to love them and give themselves for them, just as Christ lived for and gave his life for his bride.
3:18 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as it is fit in the Lord. 3:19 Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them.
Children are to obey their parents in the Lord, because we are all the children of God and we are all to obey God our Father in heaven for our own good. Parents are to lead their children wisely, teaching them godliness by word, deed and by example, only disciplining only after much patient guidance, treating our own children just as our heavenly Father treats us.
3:20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. 3:21 Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged.
Obey God first and then obey those in authority over us; honestly, wholeheartedly; and not with mere lip service and eye service.
3:22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God; 3:23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; 3:24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
Those who do well will receive their reward; and those who sin willfully will receive their correction, and if unrepentant they will go to destruction.
3:25 But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
Pay what you honestly owe others, before making offerings or spending extravagantly, and pay your servants [hired help] promptly.
Yes we are to give what is lawfully requires but it is a SIN to give large offerings when your family is in desperate need or when you have unpaid debts to go home to.
Mark 7:9 And he said unto them, Full well ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your own tradition.
7:10 For Moses said, Honour thy father and thy mother; and, Whoso curseth father or mother, let him die the death:
7:11 But ye say, If a man shall say to his father or mother, It is Corban, that is to say, a gift, [an offering] by whatsoever thou mightest be profited by me; he shall be free.
7:12 And ye suffer [permit him to give the offering and neglect his family] him no more to do ought for his father or his mother;
7:13 Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered: and many such like things do ye.
Brethren, such wickedness abounds in today’s spiritually called out Ekklesia: We give and give to our corporate entities while neglecting our responsibilities to our families and our debtors. This is a great SIN in the brotherhood!
1 Timothy 5:8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.
Colossians 4:1 Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.
Pray and be in constant mental contact with God by thinking on the things of God.
4:2 Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
I echo Paul in also asking for your prayers for me and this work.
4:3 Withal praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: 4:4 That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
Be careful how you relate with those who lack the light that guides us; maintain your godliness and give an answer to their questions, but do not engage in pointless strife.
4:5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. 4:6 Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.
The message is being sent by Tychicus, and Onesimus who also carried the letter to Philemon.
4:7 All my state shall Tychicus declare unto you, who is a beloved brother, and a faithful minister and fellowservant in the Lord: 4:8 Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that he might know your estate, and comfort your hearts; 4:9 With Onesimus, a faithful and beloved brother, who is one of you. They shall make known unto you all things which are done here.
4:10 Aristarchus my fellowprisoner [in Rome] saluteth you, and Marcus, sister’s son to Barnabas, (touching whom ye received commandments: if he come unto you, receive him;) 4:11 And Jesus, which is called Justus, who are of the circumcision. These only are my fellowworkers unto the kingdom of God, which have been a comfort unto me.
4:12 Epaphras, who is one of you, a servant of Christ, saluteth you, always labouring fervently for you in prayers, that ye may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God. 4:13 For I bear him record, that he hath a great zeal for you, and them that are in Laodicea, and them in Hierapolis.
4:14 Luke, the beloved physician, and Demas, greet you.
4:15 Salute the brethren which are in Laodicea, and Nymphas, and the church which is in his house. 4:16 And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea.
4:17 And say to Archippus, Take heed to the ministry which thou hast received in the Lord, that thou fulfil it.
4:18 The salutation by the hand of me Paul. Remember my bonds. Grace be with you; Amen.
