50 Teachings of Jesus Christ

Followers of Christ are the called out of God  the Father who have come under the sacrificial blood of Jesus and are committed to go and sin no more.

They are those that do not follow after strange doctrines (are not defiled or stained by false religion) nor do they cling to the traditions of men in lieu of obeying what God says plainly in His Word.  These called out men and women of God follow Jesus Christ the Lamb of God wheresoever He goes,  do what He says and they have no guile [deceitfulness, falsehood, untruth; false religion] for they are without fault (spotless, untainted, beyond reproach) before God.

Revelation 14:4 These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb whithersoever he goeth. These were redeemed from among men, being the firstfruits unto God and to the Lamb. 14:5 And in their mouth was found no guile [deceit]: for they are without fault before the throne of God.

The whole Bible is our instruction Book teaching us about the Family of God, the ways of God and the way to salvation, and how we are to live our lives as followers of God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. The Bible is the whole Word of God.

In John 1:1 we are told that Jesus is the Word of God. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

In this verse  “Word” is a title of the Lord Jesus. The term translated “Word” is logos, which basically means “the expression of a thought.” Logos can be thought of as the total message of God to man as it is shown in these two passages:

Acts 11:1 And the apostles and brethren that were in Judaea heard that the Gentiles had also received the word of God.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 For this cause also thank we God without ceasing, because, when ye received the word of God which ye heard of us, ye received it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which effectually worketh also in you that believe.

Jesus inspired and embodied that total message of truth, and that is why He is called the “Logos,” or “Word,” of God. He is the messenger of all of the truth of God.

The Greek word is Logos (Strong’s # 3056) a word (as embodying an idea), a statement, a speech (Strong’s Concordance)

Jesus is the fullness (embodiment) of everything that is God and He is the image of God the Father.

Hebrews 1:3 Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

John 14:9 Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?

Colossians 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

Colossians 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

Colossians 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

Another Greek word used for “word” is rhema.  (Strong’s # 4487) Definition: a thing spoken, (a) a word or saying of any kind, as command, report, promise, (b) a thing, matter, business. (Strong’s Concordance)

Rhema refers to the actual spoken/written words of God.

Hebrews 6:5 And have tasted the good word (rhema) of God, and the powers of the world to come,

When Jesus was being tempted by Satan, He answered him that man is not to live by bread alone but by every Word of God.  Jesus taught we need to know and understand the actual recorded words of God to counter Satan’s attacks.

Matthew 4:4 But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word [rhema] that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

As disciples of Jesus we must come to know God as our Lord and Master and we do so by learning and living by every Word of God.  The more we learn of His Word and how to apply His Word in our lives, the better we are able to properly apply the Word of God.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

John 10:4 And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.

For those that are called by God the Father and respond positively to God’s call in their life and believe and do as God says in His Word, Jesus declares that He will give them the power to become the sons of God.  What a wonderful promise!

John 1:12  He came unto his own, and his own received him not 11 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:

John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.

At the very beginning of Christ’s ministry He called out to His disciples telling them to become followers of Him.

Matthew 4:19 And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.

Toward the end of His ministry Jesus was still telling His disciples to “follow Him”. The very last conversation that is recorded in the Gospel of John, is when Jesus told Peter how he would die and then concluded by telling him to “Follow Me”. When Peter asked what would happen to John, Jesus gently corrected him, He told him to never mind what others do, and then told him again to “follow thou me”.

John 21:22 Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

This is Jesus command to all who would become His disciples and follower Him in living by every Word of God.   In Revelation in the very last chapter and toward the very end of the book Christ makes the incredible promise that those who “do” God’s commandments will be rewarded; their reward will be that they will have the right to the Tree of Life which means that they will be granted eternal life to live forever.

Revelation 22:14 Blessed are they that do his [God’s] commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.

As followers of Christ who go whithersoever He goeth, we are to be holy in character and in all our conduct just as He is holy.  Studying and implementing every Word of God with the help of God’s Holy Spirit to become holy men and women of God.

1 Peter 1:14 As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance:  1:15 But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

As followers of Jesus we know that living by every Word of God and keeping all the teachings of Jesus never turning aside, is the only way to live and leads to many spiritual blessings.

Matthew 28:19 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Following is a list of 49 things that Jesus tells us to do if we desire to live a holy, righteous life.

This list is a great tool to help us to live a godly life and then to carry out the second half of the Great Commission: “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:20).

Actually there are many more instructions from Jesus than just these 49 in the Gospels.  This is just a sample.  These are verses taken from the King James version of the Bible and this list makes for a helpful study guide.

People often wonder about what Jesus personally commanded us to do. As you look over this list you will see that God’s Word instructs us in great detail about what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ. These commandments are very detailed instruction in the way we should act; and what we should do, and not do in various circumstances.

Words to live by

Jesus said, “If ye love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15).

The following is a collection of 50 of Jesus’ commands. As you read through them, ask God to help you understand these words in their full physical and spiritual application, and live by them throughout your lifetime.

*Live by every Word of God

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4).

•Repent and turn away from living contrary to the Word of God
“From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17).

•Follow the example of Christ and live as he lives
“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men” (Matthew 4:19).

•Rejoice that God has granted us eternal salvation if we remain faithful
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you” (Matthew 5:11–12).

•Let Your Light Shine and be an example of living by every Word of God for all who see us
“Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

Honor God through living by God’s Law

“Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill” (Matthew 5:17).

•Be Reconciled to God

The most important thing is to be reconciled to God by sincere repentance, and after that to resolve our disputes and be reconciled with our neighbor.
“Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath aught against thee; leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift”(Matthew 5:23–25).

•Do Not Lust after unlawful things
“But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell” (Matthew 5:28–30).

•Keep Your Word
“Let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil” (Matthew 5:37).

•Go all the way for God
“Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: but I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away” (Matthew 5:38–42).

•Love Your Enemies
“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; that ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? Do not even the publicans the same?” (Matthew 5:44–46).

•Become Perfect like God
“If ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect”(Matthew 5:46–48).

•Seek the approval of God and do not seek the approval of men
“. . . When thou doest thine alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: that thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. . . . When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. . . . When thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; that thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly” (Matthew 6:1–18).

•Lay Up Spiritual Treasures
“Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also” (Matthew 6:19–21).

•Seek God’s Kingdom through living by the laws of that kingdom now
“Seek ye first the kingdom of God, [to be like God] and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you” (Matthew 6:33).

•Condemn sin and seek to save [not condemn] the sinner
“Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?” (Matthew 7:1–3).

•Do Not force yourself on others but after being rejected leave them
“Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you”(Matthew 7:6).

•Ask, Seek, Knock
“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened” (Matthew 7:7–8).

•Do Unto Others
“Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets” (Matthew 7:12).

•Choose the Narrow Way of faithful godliness
“Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it” (Matthew 7:13–14).

•Beware of False Prophets [teachers]

“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?” (Matthew 7:15–16).

•Pray that the Father would call many
“The harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few; pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest” (Matthew 9:37–38).

•Seek God’s wisdom
“Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves” (Matthew 10:16).

•Fear God and not men
“Fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10:28).

•Listen, hear and respond positively to God
“He that hath ears to hear, let him hear” (Matthew 11:15).

•Take My Yoke and learn about godliness
“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28–30).

•Honor Your Parents, especially our Father in heaven
“For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, he that curseth father or mother, let him die the death” (Matthew 15:4).

•Beware of Leaven  [pride]
“Take heed and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees” (Matthew 16:6).

•Deny our own fleshly desires and make true faithfulness our chief desire
“If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away?” (Luke 9:23–25).

•Despise Not Little Ones and the Weak
“Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 18:10).

•Personally go to those who offend and seek peace
“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as a heathen man and a publican” (Matthew 18:15–17).

•Beware of coveting and seeking physical things like the sin of building lavish auditoriums and physical facilities
“And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth” (Luke 12:15).

•Forgive those who offend us
“Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven” (Matthew 18:21–22).

•Honor Marriage and love your spouse with all faithfulness
“And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, and said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder” (Matthew 19:4–6).

•Be a Servant of God and serve men, teaching the way of Salvation
“. . . Whosoever will be great among you, let him be your minister; and whosoever will be chief among you, let him be your servant: even as the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:26–28).

•Be filled with the Holy Spirit as a house of God and Pray often

And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” (Matthew 21:21–22).

•Remember the Poor
“Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbors; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompense be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: and thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just” (Luke 14:12–14).

•Pay your taxes
“Show me the tribute money. And they brought unto him a penny. And he saith unto them, Whose is this image and superscription? They say unto him, Caesar’s. •Patiently await Christ’s coming
“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up. Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh” (Matthew 24:42–44).

•Take the Passover and observe the Festivals at the time and in the way that God has commanded.
“As they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. •You Must Be Born Again
“Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again” (John 3:5–7).

•Feed My Sheep
“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jona, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. •Make Disciples
“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations . . . teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen” (Matthew 28:19–20).

As we know, being a disciple of Jesus Christ is a lifelong journey towards conforming ourselves to the image of God.  The more we study, meditate upon, and apply the commandments of God (all of them), the more life and truth we are exposed to and the more we come to comprehend and come to KNOW Him.

The Ekklesia desperately needs to return to the plain and simple teachings of Jesus and just DO what He says in God’s Word. It is becoming clear to many of those that are studying the Word of God and proving all things as never before, that there are many traditions and practices that have entered into the assemblies that are not conforming to the clear teachings of Jesus Christ.

Matthew 7:28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: 7:29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

2 Thessalonians 2:15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

John 2:5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.
