  The New Moon has been sighted by multiple observers and the Feast of Trumpets will begin at sunset tonight!!!     The Feast of Trumpets Confirmed for Sunset Tonight

  COG Persecutions of the zealous:

  There have been a number of persecutions going on in COGWA and LCG  of people who are zealous for the Sabbath and are moving to God’s Biblical calendar.

  In COGWA (Oregon) - One elder and one deacon were disciplined for accepting and following the Biblical Calendar. They have both been demoted, removed from speaking, and their attendance is, until after the feast, probationary. Beyond the feast, their attendance is in doubt.

  There is also an LCG hearing under way in Oregon.

  Further, a UCG deacon of decades standing, has been retired for his zeal for the Sabbath and the Biblical Calendar, although he will continue on until a replacement is found and he will be allowed to attend.

  Over a month ago now, Dave Register slandered me in a church service sermon by innuendo and character assassination, and I sent him a Mat 18 message, politely asking him to contact me and resolve any issues that we might have in private and to desist from public and private slander.  Because he has not responded in a month and has persecuted the zealous, I am at liberty to mention this to the Ekklesia.

  Let me say first that I am NOT and have never knowingly been in contact with the two persons in Oregon.  I do not even know their names, however the information comes from a solid and unimpeachable source.

  I do  know that many brethren  have questioned Dave over the past many months on the Sabbath, Calendar etc and that he has been unable to refute the scriptures on these things, usually falling back on the:  “If it didn’t come from HWA it is not important and can’t be right” nonsense, while often personally attacking me instead of dealing with the questions.

  I have always had a high respect for Dave and I am deeply saddened by his rejection of truth, and his  persecution of the zealous and faithful.

  Over these next months as world events unfold, COG events unfold, and with the coming 2013 COG Passover being several days out.  This kind of persecution will build and the good elders and faithful zealous brethren will be forced to take a stand.

  Brethren this is just the tip of the iceberg as to what is going on.  I can report these because decisions have already been taken. Please pray without ceasing for these people as they face critical decisions in their spiritual lives.

    Brother James,

    Character can not be formed by someone telling you what to do. It must come from deep inside his inner most being. People need to make their own decisions if they are going to build the character that God wants in them.

    You are making the same mistake the early World Wide made legislating growth. In a sense slavery. Church demands caused bitterness and NO GROWTH.

    Warn the people but you can not TELL the people how to live their lives. That is the fruit of Herbert Armstrong.

    We are born knowing nothing and we MUST be taught right from wrong and taught to do right, even if it is personally costly. Parents are COMMANDED to diligently teach their chldren what God defines as right and wrong, and that is also the work of any man of God; to teach all people to keep all of God’s commandments, Mat 28.

    Character is the making of right choices to obey God, even when it is difficult or costly to do so. Character can ONLY be formed by someone telling you what to do and you obeying that instruction; in the case of godly character, it is ONLY formed by doing what God tells you to do.

    Godly character becomes a part of our nature only through much trial and testing over many years of obedience to God and making the right choice to obey God while paying the price to do so.

    I do not tell people what to do; I tell them exactly what they can see with their own eyes in the scriptures. Much of what I teach would be anathema to HWA [like it is to the COG Groups today,] like not giving seven offerings at the feasts, or keeping God’s calendar, or not exaltig him as our ultimate moral authority.

    To say that I am the same as HWA is absolutel;y wrong and false and indicates a lack of understanding of both what I am about and the nature of Godly Character itsel. James

    James where is the free moral agency in that approach.

    I would think God wants us to obey out of desire to do right rather than by fear of his punishment. Lake of Fire. It tells God what the person really is rather than having a robot obey out of demand.

    There is absolute free agency in that approach. Either obey God or don’t. However obeying God is essential to build godly character. To say that one can build godly character by not obeying God is an absolute contradiction. James

    God’s purpose in creating the Family of God is to have every member of that Family voluntarily embrace the exact same way of thinking that defines the mind of God the Father and the mind of Jesus Christ. When Jesus Christ said: “I and My Father are one” (John 10:30), He was saying: the Father’s mind and My mind are identical in the way they work. We use the exact same way of thinking, that way of thinking being the definition of “love”, an outgoing concern for the well-being of others. The word “love” is primarily a term that identifies God’s way of thinking, how the mind of God works.

    When Jesus Christ later, in talking about all of us in the Church of God, said: “that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You, that they also may be one in Us …” (John 17:21), He was basically saying: I want all of the people in My Church to use their minds in exactly the same way that We use Our minds.

    One of the most important purposes for God’s laws for us in this age is to openly expose to God exactly how our minds work. Ultimately the Sabbath is not going to be important one way or the other, because on the New Earth in the New Heaven there will not be any sunsets and there will not be any 24-hour days and there will not be any Sabbath days. Our response to the Sabbath commandment in this life reveals our attitude towards God. But the Sabbath, to take just one law as an example, has never been an end in itself; it has always been a means towards an end, that end being to show God how our minds respond to God.

    To state this quite plainly: God wants to know if His way of thinking can become natural and intuitive for us, like the intuitive use of our own hands in turning our thoughts into actions; or if His way of thinking remains foreign and strange to us, like trying to use an artificial hand to accomplish a certain task.

    As an example:

    When we want to make a plain sandwich it is intuitive for our one hand to pick up a knife and then, while the other hand holds down a loaf of bread, cut a slice from that loaf of bread, and then use a knife to spread some butter on the slice of bread. The whole process is intuitive and spontaneous. At no stage do we have to think: now what must I do next to get my slice of bread with butter on it?

    By contrast, if we had lost our hands in an accident and now had two artificial hands, all the required actions to obtain a slice of bread with butter on it would have to be very calculated. In using our artificial hands nothing would be spontaneous and intuitive, even if the end results (i.e. a slice of bread with butter on it) would end up being more or less the same.

    Likewise: while the outward end results (i.e. Sabbath keeping, outward obedience to God’s laws, etc.) may be more or less the same, in order to achieve those results we should ask ourselves: has God’s way of thinking become spontaneous to us, like using our own hands, or does God’s way of thinking remain very calculated and artificial for us, like trying to accomplish a task with artificial hands?

    It is God’s explicit intent that His way of thinking will become intuitive for us, that we will spontaneously respond to any situation the way God would respond to that situation. About 40 years ago Mr. Herbert Armstrong coined the expressions “the way of give” and “the way of get”. It is God’s intent that our minds come to spontaneously think “the give way” and intuitively put up a resistance to thinking “the get way”.

    To state this plainly:

    Before God there is a big difference between obedience that results from “the get way of thinking” when compared to obedience that is the result of “the give way of thinking”. The latter type of obedience will be intuitive, while the former type of obedience will be mechanical and calculated.

    Now obedience that is mechanical and calculated is acceptable to God as long as we are still in the learning stages, like a very small child still acquiring control and coordination over all the muscles in his arms and legs. But once the child has grown and developed coordination and control over all the muscles in his body, THEN all his movements (walking, running, sitting, using silverware to eat in an appropriate way, etc.) must be intuitive. Likewise, once we have lived true Christianity for a while, then God’s way of thinking must also become intuitive for us.

    And if at the end of our lives our obedience to God is still only calculated and mechanical, then we have failed!

    Your last sentence is correct however it is about why we obey and is not about the issue of developing character through obedience.

    As we obey we learn lessons from that obedience and develop in our understanding until love for the ways of God flowers; or we find the going too rough and give up; turning against any real or zealous obedience to God as the COG Groups have done.

    The fact is that obedience to God is requird for building godly character, and if we do not obey, or do so half heartedly, we are not building that godly character.

    You are correct in terms of half hearted obedience because we feel it is required which does not build character; as opposed to a whole hearted obedience out of love for God and his ways that does build character.

    By the way: Herbert’s give get teaching is something different entirely and exposes HWA’s lack of character, as he tried to influence people to do all the giving while he did all the getting. The lie; that give is opposed to get, is absolutely WRONG!

    God’s law teaches a JUST balance between give and get; God does not teach all give and no get. God gives us many blessings and he expects our obedience in return for example.

    This HWA argument allowed him to live like a Mideast potentate while many a family suffered greatly to finance his lavish lifestyle. This was, and others who do this are, commiting an aomination before God. James

    It is only through diligent practice that any actions become “intuitive”. It is necessary that we be taught, and that we strictly obey those instructions, so that in time it becomes second nature. Just like the physical actions you describe, cutting the bread and spreading the butter…those things were not “intuitive” or second nature the first time you did them.

    continued….”practice makes perfect” is a true saying, but it is only godly behavior if what we are practicing is indeed obedience to God.

    To I do not worship HWA – I agree with a lot of what you write, but it really bugs me when people bring up Herbert’s Give and Get way stuff. He brainwashed people into being ripped off by him and to feeling that they were selfish and evil if they had things for themselves. The Bible says we are to love our neighbour as ourselves. We are allowed to love ourselves. This give and get way talk is not biblical at all and is a manipulative thing to say to get vulnerable people and people who are already used to being used to give even more. The end result of constant giving is misery and for some poverty. Tithing was always meant to be from your increase. God is generous and not trying to take every last bit of money from us. HWA certainly lived it up and didn’t do without anything while many of us constantly went without because of his wrong teaching on tithing and giving.

    Further to my post on the way of give and get. An unfortunate result of this teaching is that a lot of the ministers were trained in the way of get and that has caused them to put their pay packets before preaching the word of God honestly. There is a scripture in the NT that goes “hearts trained in greed….”. It is a shame that this ever happened, but it has its purpose in that the brethren are forced to study God’s Word for themselves and decide to follow God or men who are just interested in their pay packet or are themselves, deceived. This testing of the brethren all works out for the good. If we all had ministers who were truly God’s servants it would be just too easy to conform without really being loyal to God. Everything works out for the best in the long run. The ongoing test is whether we will be deceived by “angels of darkness appearing as angels of light” or use our free will and develop the mind of God. Let’s none of us be like Adam or Eve or Esau, for that matter.

    I was kind of late in getting the news about the official date Trumpets, makes it a bit hard to put in advance notice for a day off from work. Maybe I should move to Chile, things might be easier there.

    As a COGWA elder you should know what God says about mockers, especially mockers of what they have not studied and do not understand.

    You cared enough to look up the apostate dates, but you didn’t care to look up what God has to say. I and others have been publishing the date for years. The calendar material has been up and repeated often for years. The dates up to 2020 are available at both the blog and the Outreach Site, as well as across the internet. If you don’t agree with the Bible that is one thing, but any problem with you not knowing enough to make an informed choice is your own fault. Sorry but mocking will be responded to; try rebooting with an attitude adjustment and we can get along.

    Will you. as an elder, also drive the zealous for God and the scriptures, out of your congregation, as these others? If you do, you will have a higher power to answer to.

    Why not follow the advice of Gamaliel at least? Or do you mock him as well? James

    Even though most COG elders know the difference between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Teruah (Day of Blowing/shouting i.e Feast of Trumpets) they continue to choose to celebrate the Jewish New Year rather than God’s Holy Day. In doing so they also continue to feed the sheeple spiritual food devoid of truth, substance, and spiritual nutrition. So the sheeple, who are through tithes and offerings paying their salaries, are being starved, dehydrated and financially looted since they are not receiving true value. These elders should review what God says of their ways in Isaiah 56 and Ezekiel 34. The Almighty God does not look kindly upon those who do not obey Him; those who do not teach His ways; and, those who take but do not give – who live from the spoils taken from the sheeple and whose care they, the eldership, are entrusted with.

    James, your response to Chris Dove’s comment, up there, was impressive, to me… I think it clearly shows how guided your thought-process can be, in that it seemed like a very ‘inspired’ response, and an admirable way to make a point, that was easily over-looked by a casual reader. Like you said, Gamaliel’s response is a very wise ‘least we can do’, in our thought process, these days, it would seem…
